Shocking Newsflash: Biggest Beneficiary Of Telecom And ISP Campaign Cash Is Net Neutrality’s Biggest Opponent: Senator John Sidney McCain

Just Follow The Money Trail — ALWAYS

Net Neutrality — a capitalistic theory practice by Internet service providers and telecoms to cap page load times for we smaller (and medium-sized in our case) website operators and charge premium fees for faster page loading times for “The Big Boys”. Not a very popular practice in society or even in Washington, that is — unless you happen to be a Panamanian-born Senator representing the Great State Of Arizona by the name of Señor Juan Sidney McCain despite the Federal Communication Commissions’ (“FCC”) strong disagreement with Señor “Panama John” McCain. The FCC voted on Thursday to ban such practices, so what did Juan Sidney do? He sponsored his own lonely bill shortly thereafter in order to keep those big bucks rolling in…

A short “snip” from Reuters:

… Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is the top recipient of campaign contributions from large Internet service providers like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast over the past two years, according to a new report from the Sunlight Foundation and the Center for Responsive Politics. McCain has taken in a total of $894,379 (much of that money going to support his failed 2008 bid for the presidency), more than twice the amount taken by the next-largest beneficiary, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. ($341,089).
Meanwhile, McCain has emerged as the ISPs’ biggest champion against new “network neutrality” rules from the Federal Communications Commission, which voted Thursday to move forward in the process to adopt such rules. Shortly after the FCC vote, McCain introduced a bill (the “Internet Freedom Act”) that would block regulation of the nation’s largest broadband networks.

Net neutrality rules would amount to a federal mandate that broadband providers cannot block or hinder the internet traffic of any web site or service, regardless of whether or not that site or service completes with a similar site or service offered by the ISP itself. In other words, a telco ISP could not limit bandwidth used for Skype VoIP traffic, while maximizing bandwidth available for its own VoIP service. … — Mark Sullivan of PC World

But see — Ole’ Panama John, sticking to his ultra-conservative, capitalistic “cash cow, Senator-for-Hire principles, doesn’t think there is anything wrong with this. After all, as former Alaska Senator Ted “Bridge To Nowhere” Stevens explained to us so eloquently: these Internets are only a series of pipes and tubes and apparently, Panama Juan Sidney believes it’s A-Okay for a “Comcast” to insure a “Skype” sounds like crappola in comparison to the “Comcast” by making sure the “Skype” has a tiny little “tube” to work with. Blatant Capitalism, eh folks? Great job, Señor.

Frankly, the most “Capitalistic” aspect of this whole drama is the fact that not only the Panamanian, but the vast majority of our 535 Congressional Representatives and Senators make serious money by pandering to “big bidness” for campaign dollars. How many restrictions do you really think there ARE when it comes to spending those dollars? One only has to shake a hand everywhere their travels take them and beg for a vote and the meal and the gasoline and any other expenses get to be spent by the CROOK Patriotic American Citizen who has decided to represent his or her Constituents head off to Washington to become wealthy and set for life.

Boo, HISS, Señor. For this, you should be removed from office by those native Arizonans you chose to reside with after arriving to the United States from your native country of Panama.

Yes, Senator McCain, son of an AMERICAN officer stationed in the US PANAMA CANAL ZONE, that being a TERRITORY OF THE UNITED STATES, and born on a US MILITARY BASE on US SOIL, and who by the way did produce the appropriate documents that established his eligibility to hold the office of President of the US when asked to do so (unlike a certain former junior senator from IL who has stonewalled every inquiry into his past) took money from the telecom groups. And so? Looks like Reid was sucking pretty heavily at that teat too. Doesn’t matter if it is a buck or a million, the principle is the same.

    @Joe Lovell, ;-)

    Doomed Reply:

@The GTL™, Would this be similar to the reason BARAK OBAMA refuses to insert TORT REFORM into the health care bill?

Would this be why Barak Obama took more money from Freddie Mac then did everyone else save DODD and that was why he continued to sponsor and block legislation that led to Fannies demise?

Why the GOP bashing GTL? You know thats what it is….cause if you wanted to do this you could start in alphabetical order and go thru all 530 plus senators and representatives and find this crap on every one of them.

A more Salient point would be why those on the left actually defend the PARTY OF PERPETUAL POVERTY? AS opposed to the party of PERPETUAL WEALTH….I just don’t get it at all.

    Joe Lovell Reply:

@Doomed, To be fair, we bash the o, so tolerant, diverse, and inclusive Dems.

I don’t get his constant harping on the birth place of a man, born to two natural born US citizens, one an officer in our military, on a US military installation, in a US territory, who, when questioned about it actually produced valid doucments that could be used as valid doc for things like passports or security clearance, rather than spending millions on three legal teams to stonewall any inquiry into his past as another capon is doing (still have to wonder what he has to work so hard to hide, ya know?)

We need an ISP czar to insure equitable redistribution of bandwith. Hurray for more government regulations! Hurray for government’s expansion into controlling the internet! (The communist crowd goes wild with applauds!)
