OOPS!
Gee, who would have ever known the unanimous “No” vote for this new stimulus -slash- “bailout” package I’d much rather refer to as “BURP II” by the entire body of Republicans in the House were just playing “games” when they did so? I’m shocked, as I am sure most of you are, too when learning about the “latest” out of GOP-Ville (H/T goes to The Washington Monthly).
From the McClatchy Bureau, we now learn at least some GOP House members were against this package before they were for it. For example:
Congressman John Mica (R-FL): … “I applaud President Obama’s recognition that high-speed rail should be part of America’s future,” the Florida Republican beamed in a press release. …”
Congressman Don Young (R-AK):
“… Don Young, R-Alaska, also had nice things to say in a press release. Young boasted that he “won a victory for the Alaska Native contracting program and other Alaska small business owners last night in H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.” …
If you read the entire article, you’ll have also learned House minority leader, John Boehner’s spokesman, Mike Steel, has gone on the record to say these press releases are very much in line with the “Republican message”. Hmm. Interesting. If so, you’d have thought there’d have been at least two or three “Yea” votes from the right side of the aisle, would you not? Then again, who am I anyway — just another college dropout, so what do I know?
Frankly, no matter which way the GOP Congressfolks and Senators voted, Mr. Steele has actually made a truthful statement considering the Republicans were the biggest spenders in the history of this country when they held both the House and the Senate majority under Vice President President Dick “Shotgun” Cheney and his sidekick, President General “Surge” Dubya Bush. Never has government grown any larger than it did during this time — you know, before there was any Department of Homeland Security, TSA, or “War Czar” — like there is today.
So, again, yeah — sounds like the so-called “Republican message” hasn’t changed a bit even with their new GOP leadership, a.k.a., gun-grabber extraordinaire, RNC Chairman Michael Steele or my former classmate from Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah “The Baracuda” Palin come to think of it.
