I’d already weighed in on this controversy yesterday — i.e., Rush Limbaugh’s chilling and quite offensive comment regarding left-leaning military members, tastelessly referring to them as “phony Soldiers”. I thought I had gotten it out of my system after my RANT against the man, but then I wake up today to see that the boisterous, cigar-chomping IDIOT, rather than apologise to the half of the military he blatantly offended with his comment, is attempting to spin his way out of his mess by blantantly LYING to his dittoheads and the dittoheads are falling in line, right behind their fearless “hero” in an attempt to cover for him. SHAMEFUL, in my not-so-humble opinion.
Let me give you a personal experience of mine from when I was serving in “The Desert” (no, not Iraq, but close enough to see a lot of things I wish I hadn’t of). We had a big screen television in our work tent (thank you, fellow taxpayers!), but the kids had no interest in the news, so I went without. Back home, I’m a talk radio junkie; have been for years, and often listen to it via the Internet, but out in “The Desert”, the only live, FREE talk radio you could access was Rush Limbaugh, which isn’t generally a free product, but to Mr. Limbaugh’s credit, he offered free access to Limbaugh 24/7 to ALL military members serving in combat zones.
Obviously, Mr. Limbaugh wasn’t my first choice, but any and ALL Air America and other left-leaning radio could not be accessed over the Internet in the combat zones; ONLY Limbaugh, Hannity, and other right-wing radio hosts with Limbaugh being the ONLY one in the whole group who was thoughtful enough to offer his podcast for free to us. And, that says a LOT about the rest of them, doesn’t it? After yesterday’s thoughtless comment, however; I’m CONVINCED Mr. Limbaugh wouldn’t have offered his free podcast had he known left-leaning troops such as myself were also taking advantage of his “generous” offer, but, back to the story…
One day, I was kicking back on a rare day off, listening to Limbaugh ranting and raving about how the war was going so well and how “our brave military heros” were being deflated by the “driveby media”, blah, blah, blah — hey, at least I was able to keep my ear to the ground on what sort of rhetoric was being spewed back home by both the Democrats and Republicans, which is why I even bothered to listen to the doomass in the first place. As I was listening to Limbaugh drone on, a caller came on the line and identified himself as a military troop who’d just gotten back from Iraq, and he was appalled at the war rhetoric from the right. Without hesitation, without any “thank you for your service” (as he always greets any dittohead military member), he launched right into a tirade where he voiced doubts that the guy was even in the military at ALL as he bashed and bashed this guy for dissenting with his Commander-In-Chief. That was the last time I even bothered to listen to this idiot in “The Desert”.
Talk about disrespectful, this creep. There I was, serving side by side with brave troops from all sides of the political spectrum, many excited about the war and just as many fed up with it, and here the “Rush Limbaughs” and “Sean Hannitys” kept on taking advantage of the limitations upon free speech via the UCMJ in regards to the other half of the military while trying to stuff money into their coffers by misrepresenting the military as being composed of “right wing, pro-war, pro-Bush, Christian neocon warriors” with the rare and occasional, “fringe” dissenter amongst them. I was appalled then and I’m appalled now, even a few years later by their “we support the troops” crappla they’ve spewed for PERSONAL GAIN. SHAMEFUL. Yesterday’s comments by Mr. Limbaugh have brought to the forefront just how hypocritical and intolerant these right-wing, phony, SHOCK JOCKS really are when it comes to REALLY supporting the troops.
Here’s the YouTube video of the boisterous windbag, pathetically attempting to spin his way out of his disgusting comment today (H/T to Hot Air):
Nice try, Mr. Limbaugh. You said what you said, and there’s no taking it back. Apologies would be accepted, at least by MOI (and again, yes, I AM part French), but you don’t even have the SPINE to do it, so I am not holding my breath, Sir.
And, as could be predicted, and as alluded to earlier, this is a typical example of a dittohead trying to spin the cowardly, GUTLESS Limbaugh’s words – from The Weekly Standard’s Brian Faughnan entitled “What Limbaugh Said“, as if we don’t have our own set of ears:
What Limbaugh Said
The folks on the Left are beside themselves today–thinking that by dint of a truncated quote, they will succeed in shutting down Rush Limbaugh and taking him off the air. Before lining up next to the folks from Crooks and Liars, FireDogLake, Media Matters, ThinkProgress, Huffington Post, and the rest, at least read the full transcript. In Limbaugh’s comments after the exchange quoted by the left, he makes clear he is referring to people like Jesse MacBeth–a ‘phony soldier’ the left would understandably like to forget. …”
Let me be clear — Limbaugh’s words were not taken out of context at all. As I detailed above, Limbaugh and his other right-wing talk radio “warriors of Christ” have been bashing left-leaning troops and disrespecting them for YEARS and his disdain for half of the military was simply exposed to the masses yesterday, gaining long-overdue attention to the fact that these creeps have NEVER supported the ENTIRE military.
I’m not going to call for his voice to be silenced; to the contrary since the longer these gasseous WINDBAGS are allowed to speak, the more they dig their own graves. And in the spirit of my appreciation for capitalism, at least a slightly populist form of it, I choose NOT to do any business with his advertisers until they choose not to do business with Rush Limbaugh. I won’t be calling for any boycots, but if any of our readers wish to, here’s the short list of his advertisers and their contact information:

Do what you will with the above info. I was against the left when they called for the firing of Don Imus, I’m against the same thing here with Mr. Limbaugh, but on the other hand, whatever happens, the guy gets what he deserves.
As for now, I feel I’ve had enough justice done by ranting and giving my honest opinion and observations and as for the rest of America and its brave troops — BOTH sides of the aisle — let the chips fall where they may…

Thanks to our friends at The Moderate Voice for linking in — great blogger roundup and Op-Ed HERE…
A HUGE thanks to my personal friend Matthew O’Keefe of Pamoka Straight Talk for his support of the troops and for keeping my military service “mum” in public even though he’s known all along I am a CURRENT member of the U.S. military until now, when I’ve finally revealed the fact for the first time — Thanks, brother!!!
Thanks also to Vim And Vinegar for linking in
Thanks goes also to Democrat Taylor Marsh for linking in

We know what Rush really said. If it makes liberals feel good to misrepresent what really happened, then by all means, go for it. Let’s make this a big story. I’m ready for another “Dan Rather” moment!
Remember liberals…Don’t let the truth hold you back!

Oh, by the way…the last time a left wing group tried to go after advertisers of Rush by pointing them out, their sales went through the roof. Remeber the Florida orange juice?

Mike – he really said “phony Soldiers” – plural. To turn around the next day and say he was only talking about a single soldier is not only a stretch, it’s a blatant LIE. Limbaugh’s been bashing left-leaning troops who call into his talk radio show for YEARS; cutting them off, muting them, calling them liars, insinuating they’re not REALLY in the military, etc., etc., etc. Anybody who has listened to his show for any length of time knows this is a FACT, so your attempt to spin it alongside of the boisterous windbag is transparent. The problem here is, I have listened to Limbaugh and Hannity extensively and have heard them do this again and again and again.
While we’re at it, another rheprehensible tactic these jerks have been using throughout the Bush years is taking advantage of the stifled 1st Amendment of the left in the military during the reign of a Republican Commander-In-Chief to “sell” their war by making it sound to their listeners as if the entire military is a bunch of far-right, neocon, Christian soldier group who they support without question. The FACT is, the right-wing troops are allowed to spew their rhetoric because it mirrors the rhetoric of their Commander-In-Chief – perfectly acceptable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Not acceptable for left-leaning troops to actively disagree while revealing their service in the military unless done VERY carefully, and with lots of ASTERIXES.
Anybody who’s ever served knows this is the case, by the way. Oh, and nice try, “mike”, and welcome to The GTL. Stick around awhile

You’ve convinced me Mike. I wanted to set up a Scottrade account sooner or later anyway, but clearly now is the time to get on top of it.
This is such a silly attempt to slime Rush. He never even called Kerry a phony soldier, so you can be very confident he wouldn’t call any of our current troops phonies.
Well, maybe Beauchamp, but for a different reason.
8:48 pm on September 28th, 2007 5
Did you see that Rush phonied up the version of the event when he put up his defense? In fact, the clip he aired omitted a full 1 minute and 35 seconds of discussion that occurred between Limbaugh’s original “phony soldiers” comment and his subsequent reference to MacBeth.

Thanks for the clip, it pretty much refutes your entire argument. If you listen without bias, it is clear that Rush is talking about people who falsely represent their military credentials. I would really think that any military or ex-military person would be just as appalled as Rush was that someone would do this. Luckily, Macbeth didn’t get away with it and was convicted of crimial behavior for falsifying his military records, etc. What more must one person do to achieve the title “Phony Soldier?”
He never referred to left leaning soldiers as phony, he referred to lefties who pretend to be soldiers as phony.
11:17 pm on September 29th, 2007 10
Let me just begin by saying that any person that has never served in the military of the United States of America has NO place dictating who is in service to our nation or not. I don’t care if you are a freaking whack job Congressional member or even the President of the United States of America. Let me go further and say that radio talk show host’s that never served in our military have NO room to talk about who is a soldier in service and whom is not. Especially, when they have never served in the theatre that is the Iraq, Afghanistan, War on Terror, and KBR and Haliburton balance sheet surplus.
Rush Limbaugh is a phony! He proves it more times than not by being the “Water Boy for the Republican’s”, his words, not mine. How dare he call any of our service members “Phony Troop’s”! Talk about spitting in the faces of the troops? Rush saved himself the trip to the airport or the bus terminal and just broadcast that half of our military personnel are “Phony Troop’s” on his radio program. Those would be publicly owned airwaves regulated by the FCC. I’m told that the Democrat’s in Congress are moving to pass a non binding resolution to denounce Rush Limbaugh.

It sounds like half the people commenting here didn’t even listen to GTL’s link. Limbaugh’s “Phony Soldiers” comments refer to the liberal shills who claim to be military or ex-military but Are Not.
He did not call any actual soldier a “Phony Soldier” but only those “soldiers” who pop up spouting anti-war rhetoric and whose military claims are falsified. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking on the part of liberals who will grasp at any little straw to try to discredit the man. In ignoring what really happened in favor of what you want to think happened, you only discredit yourselves, not him.
And by the way, I too fully support GTL’s right to express his opinions in this blog or elsewhere, regardless of his status as a full active, reserve, or any other status in the military of this nation. Ditto for any other member of the U.S. military. And I’ll go to the mat for those beliefs.
But I also believe that witch-hunting Rush Limbaugh by distorting his actual comments will lead you all nowhere.

Once again Rush is Right..If the Left is looking for someone on the Right who is anti troops they need to look away from Rush..Its amazing how the left will lie and distort facts and even think that any of us on the Right would believe their bunk..Where is the outrage against the demented Murtha or Harry Reid who truly have spoken smears against our troops.
8:06 pm on October 2nd, 2007 13
There are lots of phony soldiers out there ..A real soldier doesn’t whine about the mission while they are in the middle of it..

I’d like to personally thank the liberals for pressing this issue. In this case all one need to do is listen to the show that day. It would help if they also listened the prior day too. The liberal media manufactures propaganda. It is obvious. By pressing this you have given us a clear definition of how you operate. Your big concern now is that Rush is not going to ignore this one. This will not be another example of the left posing a false proposition (or blatant lie) and receiving little or no objection from the target. Your arrogance and obvious lack of respect for the truth is becoming more obvious. The Democrat congressmen who have run with this lie have made themselves look foolish. Liberals have done more for the cause of conservatives by pressing this than they are currently aware. Thanks for shining this beacon on your hypocrisy.
