So Far – Looks Like The Netroots Are Out And Queen Hillary (Her Royal Highness) Is In For ‘08

Conservatives are finally facing the fact that King George will be handing his royal crown over to Hillary...Today, Andrew Sullivan of The Daily Dish and David Brooks of The New York Times are finally saying what I’ve been saying for the last couple of years around here — “OOPS! Looks like Hillary is gonna win and maybe we shouldn’t have been so quick to grant dictatorial, unconstitutional “powers” to President Bush after all.” It’s all fun and games until you find yourselves on the LOSING side, isn’t it boys? USA Patriot Act, RealID, wiretapping and datamining — it’s all “cool” as long as it’s the Republican Party doing it to their political pains-in-the-asses, but now that the shoe is most likely going to be on the other foot, there’s suddenly some second thoughts going on in GOP-Land. About time, boys and girls.

Scary enough, Queen Hillary, it appears, is rapidly pulling away from “Number Two” (source: CNN) in the Democratic race for the Oval Office, and of course, a Republican President is OUT, and unless somebody does some major “Swift Boating” very quickly, Queen Hillary is destined for King George’s royal crown so soon it is going to make your heads spin.

First, a quote from the talented, conservative realist (no, not an oxymoron – a rarity perhaps, but not an oxymoron) Andrew Sullivan:

“… The conservative Washington Establishment is swooning for Hillary for a reason. The reason is an accommodation with what they see as the next source of power (surprise!); and the desire to see George W. Bush’s invasion and occupation of Iraq legitimated and extended by a Democratic president (genuine surprise). Hillary is Bush’s ticket to posterity. On Iraq, she will be his legacy. They are not that dissimilar after all: both come from royal families, who have divvied up the White House for the past couple of decades. They may oppose one another; but they respect each other as equals in the neo-monarchy that is the current presidency. And so elite conservatives are falling over themselves to embrace a new Queen Hillary, with an empire reaching across Mesopotamia, a recently deposed court just waiting to return to the salons of DC, a consort happy to be co-president for another four years, and a back-channel to the other royal family. She’ll even have more powers than Clinton I, because Cheney has given her back various royal prerogatives: arrests without charges, torture, wire-tapping, and spy-ware on your Expedia account. Only the coronation awaits.

Vivat! Vivat! Vivat Regina! Unless, of course, the coronation is happening just a little too soon.”

Again, if Andrew’s complaint and/or concern sounds familiar to GTL readers, it’s because I’ve been saying it forever and a day. Don’t believe me? Click here. I’ve been WARNING GOP Police State loving, “war on terr’r” loving Republicans all along that THEIR day is coming. Who’s to blame? THEM. Well, them and most of the so-called “Democrats” on Capitol Hill who’ve also anticipated this authoritarian “hand-off” of power to their Queen in ‘08, which is exactly why they voted right along with their buddies from the other side of the aisle. They cannot wait until they can establish their freaking, Authoritarian Nanny State via those same tools used by President Bush to establish his dictatorship in America today…

Okay; now a clip from the NYT piece:

“In the beginning of August, liberal bloggers met at the YearlyKos convention while centrist Democrats met at the Democratic Leadership Council’s National Conversation. Almost every Democratic presidential candidate attended YearlyKos, and none visited the D.L.C.

At the time, that seemed a sign that the left was gaining the upper hand in its perpetual struggle with the center over the soul of the Democratic Party. But now it’s clear that was only cosmetic.

Now it’s evident that if you want to understand the future of the Democratic Party you can learn almost nothing from the bloggers, billionaires and activists on the left who make up the “netroots.” You can learn most of what you need to know by paying attention to two different groups — high school educated women in the Midwest, and the old Clinton establishment in Washington.

In the first place, the netroots candidates are losing. In the various polls on the Daily Kos Web site, John Edwards, Barack Obama and even Al Gore crush Hillary Clinton, who limps in with 2 percent to 10 percent of the vote. …”

Okay, and why IS this? I’m no fan of the DLC either, but in my opinion, the so-called “Netroots” aren’t REALLY “liberals”. I’m not sure what they are, but if you want to read the blog of a TRUE “liberal” – i.e., the same kind of “liberal” who goes out on voting day and actually VOTES — you’re looking at one right now. I’m in touch with my fellow countrymen and women and I truly believe the talk you see on this blog is much like the talk around the watercoolers in America today. I don’t hear ANYBODY in the “real world” spouting out all of the Authoritarian Socialist crappola you get to read in the largest blogs in the so-called “liberal blogosphere” today.

Do you think for one moment that the majority of liberals want to take your guns away? Do you think for one moment that the majority of liberals want a “Nanny State” version of “Big Brother” datamining and wiretapping you? If you believe that, I invite you to take a drive right on down here to the Heart of Dixie for a badly-needed reality check.

And folks, that is exactly what is wrong with the “powerplayers” of the “Netroots” in the blogosphere and it mirrors the politically-correct plague of the Democratic Party of today. And it’s too bad, because we have NEVER needed a party to act TRULY liberally nearly as badly as we do today. To turn our Democracy over to TWO ROYAL FAMILIES FOR DECADES is one of the WORST ideas the American People have EVER pondered. I thought we were MUCH smarter than this. Oops. Apparently NOT.

Suprise, SURPRISE, Andrew. You may now BOW before the QUEEN…

With the short attention span of most of the public, even those few of us who vote (and that is another topic worth visiting) whoever is ahead now will likely be forgotten by the time the primary elections roll around. We have had about 9 months of campaign so far, we have 13 months to go.
Lord have mercy! Whatever happened to the short run to the primary, let it settle down until the conventions, then hit it hard for 2 or 3 months until the election? What do we gain with almost 2 years worth of presidential campaign?

I’m a conservative (NOT a Republican – there’s a vast difference between the two), and I asked this question a couple of years ago on my own blog.
