The GTL’s NFL Picks — Week 15, 2009

December 17th, 2009 · 9 Comments · Sports

ATTENTION NFL FANS: These are PREVIOUS picks — go HERE to view the latest “expert” predictions for The GTL’s NFL Picks…

Previous Week (Week 14): (11-5)
Year To Date: 137-70
All-Time (2006 Through 2008 Combined Record): 335-195

The GTL uses his expert super-secret formula to pick the NFL Week Fifteen 2009 straight-up winners...First things first: Rest In Peace Chris Henry (WR, Cincinnati Bengals) who tragically died after falling out of the back of a pickup truck during a domestic dispute (Yahoo! Sports). Chris was only 26 years old — just tragic. My heart goes out to his fiance, his three children, his teammates and the rest of his family and friends.

Meanwhile, the amazing Saints and Colts are STILL undefeated. Will they remain so after this National Football League’s Week 15 or will they start resting their stars? Don’t forget, the Saints still need to win to secure homefield advantage in the NFC playoffs and the Colts are PROMISING they want to go undefeated. Also don’t forget the fact this IS Week 15 and anything can happen. This is the time of the year the lazy veterans on the crappier teams receive their wakeup call with the “voice” on the other end of the line saying “Hey — you crazy or somethin’? If you want a job next year, you’d better start showing up and playing 100% or you might find your butt on the unemployment line!” These two KEY reasons are behind why Weeks 15 and 16 normally spell U-P-S-E-T C-I-T-Y throughout the NFL annually.

How many upsets should we expect this week? Any? A bunch? I guess we won’t know until after the final whistle sounds in each contest, will we? Nevertheless, I shall, as always, make my picks for your amusement NOW…

The NFL needs to do something to clean itself up. Sounding like the NBA of the last 10 to 20 years. But – the Bengals just might be energized enough to, in his memory, beat the Bolts. (10 & 3, whodathunk it of SD?)

  • The GTL™

I thought about that, Joe — will the Bengals — dangerous as they are naturally, be fired up enough to win against the much better Bolts? Should be a close one and a nail biter bro…

Psychology is hard to calculate in such situations. I seem to remember a game after the Washington Redskins lost a player, I think they played quite poorly. Honestly, in this particular case, I suspect it will be more of a negative than a positive for the Bengals.

@Mike 300 spartans, Good points, Mike — it’s damned hard to predict how the team will react. UMASS’ football team lost their star player this year and played their butts off as an underdog in his memory but still lost the game. SHRUG…

Well, CRAP! The Cowboys pulled it off! The Saint had been struggleing the past few weeks, but always managed to pull it off. Damn. I was hoping to see two unbeaten teams at the end of the season.

    • The GTL™

@Joe Lovell, Me too, Joe but I’m not surprised at all of course. I was disappointed, the Saints being my 2nd fave and all but hey, surprised? NOPE!

@The GTL™, Lookin’ kind of grim, Guns.

But, HEY! The Bolts have won NINE straight and clinched their division. And, if they get past whoever they play from the wildcard, they stand a good chance of beating the Colts – they have knocked them out of the playoffs several times.

        what it means

        Updated: Dec. 20, 2009, 8 p.m. ET

What does it all mean? It means the AFC playoff picture, with a half-dozen 7-7 teams, is as muddled as can be with two weeks to go. It means the NFC will likely go down to the final week. It means you better freshen up on your tiebreakers. It means you better get set for a wild finish to the regular season.
