GTL™ Sunday Guest Columnist: Author And “Moderately-Right-Of-Center” Political Pundit, Christopher L. Doster, Employs His Wit, Sarcasm And Conservative Sense Of Humor To Promote The Conservative Values Espoused By Such Legends As Lee Iacocca And Famous College Football Coach Lou Holtz…
“More Is Usually SAID Than Is Ever DONE”
I was watching football on this Thanksgiving Day, 2009, (my God, where did the year and my country go?), and happened to catch the great Lou Holtz, former coaching legend and current ESPN commentator on TV. He was giving a speech to a group of students (most likely from some government school dominated by liberal professors and perhaps a few communist supporters sprinkled in). In my post feast stupor, preceded by house work followed by a holiday basketball tournament I attended (GO SOUTH ALABAMA JAGS!), this is my take away…
Coach Holtz was talking about dreams, goals, and love. Love for others, love for self, and love for something “bigger” than self. The students complete with hats on sideways, piercings, and an array of “costumes” that now pass for clothing, appeared to be listening. Yet, they might have been secretly texting or tuned into an iPod as well. Regardless, the “coach” talked passionately about “life” and lessons learned. He is a true leader, and closed with a comment that made me think about the “leaders” today. Leaders in business, leaders in politics, leaders in the media…
“After it’s all said and done, much more will be said than will ever be done”
I remember LEADERS, don’t you? Those great men and women that DID what they said they would do! From the pilgrims that bailed on their socialist commune and created a true capitalist society that formed our nation, to Franklin, Adams, Lincoln, Patton, Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and yes, Coach Holtz. Actions, not just words; actions that those in the trenches or on the field, hell, even those on the bench, would follow…
What are we following today, as we wallow in our “recession”, bombarded by words of fear and guilt? America is at fault, we must reduce our “carbon emissions”, and “bow” down to every dictator and emperor on earth. Is that “leadership”, or is it too much “said” and not enough “done”…
Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from its death throes? He’s now 82 years old and has a new book, “Where Have All the Leaders Gone”? He didn’t get a government “bail out” nor needed congress to advise him on how to run a company. Leadership and action saved Chrysler, not words or speeches, not Teleprompters or “czars”.
“Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It’s easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else’s kids off to war when you’ve never seen a battlefield yourself. It’s another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.”-Lee Iacocca
It has been said that you learn the most from failure. Well there has been enough failure in our great government programs that success should be easy. Guess policy wonks aren’t the same as entrepreneurs and business leaders that have to answer to customers and stockholders…
“Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem without a TELEPROMPTER. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.”-Lee Iacocca
We have been told that unemployment would never reach 10%, promised that “shovel ready jobs” would be created by the “stimulus”, that “crisis” was near and action must be taken immediately. Much has been said, but what has really been done…
“If I’ve learned one thing, it’s this: you don’t get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it’s building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That’s the challenge I’m raising in this book. It’s a “Call to Action” for people who, like me, believe in America ‘. It’s not too late, but it’s getting pretty close. So let’s shake off the crap and go to work. Let’s tell’ em all we’ve had ‘enough.”-Lee Iacocca
As this year winds down and the Holiday Season proceeds, I pray that more Americans pay attention to what is said and what is really being done. — This Sunday Column was penned by the one and only CLD

Nine months later, the president’s promising peace initiative has unraveled.
The Israelis have refused to stop all building. The Palestinians say that they won’t talk to the Israelis until they do, and President Mahmoud Abbas is so despondent he has threatened to quit. Arab states are refusing to do anything.
Mr. Obama’s own credibility is so diminished (his approval rating in Israel is 4 percent) that serious negotiations may be farther off than ever. …
Iran promises to build 10 more centrifuge facilities.
But oh well……LETS TALK……..TALK……….and while they build bombs……….LETS TALK SOME MORE.

@Doomed, And of course according to the left and their now famous “I have a JUDGEMENT” president…if you just talk….TALK….extend your hand…smile….
If you just do it Obama’s way…the Muslims will love you. Europe will love you. Everybody will love you.
Well we see how thats working out.
Israel Hates Obama. The muslim countries wont lift a finger to help out in Palestine. Iran is outwardly bragging about building more centrifuges. France’s Sarkozy dislikes Obama. Englands Prime Minister is promising things that American can deliver at the cost of millions of jobs after being snubbed by Obama.
Its so sad that France is taking the lead in asking for MORE sanctions and tougher Sanctions on Iran and North Korea.
Yet the good president Obama is going to China and promising them anything….rejecting human rights dialouge so the Chinese will continue to BUY OUR BONDS.
Mr. I had a judgement has essentially told the Dolly Lama to piss off unless he can buy more USA JUNK BONDS then can China.
Mr. “I had a Judgement” Obama is a nitwit.

@Doomed . . . and let’s keep thinking and talking and brainstorming on Afghanistan . . . as more of our soldiers die daily . . . so now, Obama will finally reveal his plan there . . . this should be good, a well crafted, political compromise that will probably have nothing to do with common sense and goal of victory.
@CLD . . . I love golf and you love golf but if either of us were the President of the USA, there would be very little golf (or parties, or trips to Europe). It would be all business, the business of solving problems, balancing budgets, fiscal responsibility, securing our nation, isolating terrorists, etc. It would be all business, full throttle! Sure there would be a few political gatherings and meetings but limited bullshit and limited spending of taxpayer dollars . . . through LIMITED government!

Well said JBFree. Primary objectives and priorities. Yet Obama has a Hollywood/celebrity dinner party at the “white” house, complete with tents and party crashers, while troops are in harms way, small biz is stunned into hesitancy, and the consumers of this country hold onto thier dollars until the eagle grins…The return of the Elite liberals. Thought it was only “rich fat cat Republicans” that showed such distain for every day Americans….sick….

Christopher, you seriously need to take a look around you in this world and see that the nation is not right in the head. We are in a world of crap and the Bush and Cheney “Screw everyone” policies put us there. I’m a huge fan of Lee I. but he isn’t a saint or savior.
As for your “Teleprompter” comments that were a slam on President Obama, all I can say is “BUSH”. That was a man that could not speak a coherent statement if his life depended on it. And then signed legislation non stop mandated by the federal government that the states were forced to pay for his entire presidency.
God bless ya Christopher but I humbly think that you have no clue as to what the real world is all about because you have never lived it. Be thankful that you haven’t had to either!

@Papamoka, This post really demonstrates the depths of progressive disillusionment. Progressive policies and progressive moralities have essentially driven his life to near rock bottom, and still he wants to blame Bush/Cheney. When, I have to ask will a progressive liberal fianlly admit to the failings of progressive liberal policies and their obvious results of social and economic destruction?

We must keep ClimateGATE front and center.
The mathematics behind the Mann Hockey Stick were badly flawed, such that its shape was determined by suspect bristlecone tree ring data. Controversies quickly piled up: Two expert panels involving the U.S. National Academy of Sciences were asked to investigate, the U.S. Congress held a hearing, and the media followed the story around the world.
The expert reports upheld all of our criticisms of the Mann Hockey Stick,
The expert reports upheld all of our criticisms of the Mann Hockey Stick,
both of the mathematics and of its reliance on flawed bristlecone pine data. One of the panels, however, argued that while the Mann Hockey Stick itself was flawed, a series of other studies published since 1998 had similar shapes, thus providing support for the view that the late 20th century is unusually warm. The IPCC also made this argument in its 2007 report.
But the second expert panel, led by statistician Edward Wegman, pointed out that the other studies are not independent.
They are written by the same small circle of authors, only the names are in different orders, and they reuse the same few data climate proxy series over and over.

So once again as you can see. How do you hide the data? WHAT trick do you use to make the facts fit your assumed conclusion?
The spin is fast becoming…the trick is legitimate science. Dont believe it. Legitimate science does not hide facts…It questions them.

@Doomed,
Most of the proxy data does not show anything unusual about the 20th century. But two data series have reappeared over and over that do have a hockey stick shape.
One is this flawed bristlecone data that the National Academy of Sciences panel said should NOT be used, so the studies using it can be set aside.
The second was a tree ring curve from the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia, compiled by UK scientist Keith Briffa.
Briffa published a paper in 1995 claiming that the Medieval period actually contained the coldest year of the millennium. But this claim depended on just three tree ring cores from the Polar Urals. Later F.H. Schweingruber produced a much larger sample from the Polar Urals: The medieval era was actually quite warm and the late 20th century was unexceptional. OPPS.
Briffa and Schweingruber never published those data, instead they dropped the Polar Urals altogether from their climate reconstruction papers.
Briffa and Schweingruber never published those data, instead they dropped the Polar Urals altogether from their climate reconstruction papers.
In its place they used a new series that Briffa had calculated from tree ring data from the nearby Yamal Peninsula that had a pronounced Hockey Stick shape: relatively flat for 900 years then sharply rising in the 20th century.
Great!! Here you go. Heres proof that the hockey stick works and proves the global warming advocates are correct.
Sadly…. This Yamal series was a composite of an UNDISCLOSED number of individual tree cores. In order to check the steps involved in producing the composite, it would be necessary to have the individual tree ring measurements themselves.
But Briffa didn’t release his raw data.

Yet folks this report has powerful credance around the globe with no supporting data to be checked, rechecked and verified by those who want the truth and not an agenda.
We report. You decide.

@Doomed, Oh and additionally
Yeah.
There is a current list of 31,000 Scientists who do not subscribe to AGW.
THIRTYONE THOUSAND.
But as Mr. Gibbs of the White House said in response to being told that….
“The fact that climate is changing is not in dispute.”
Are you kidding me Mr. Gibbs? The climate is ALWAYS changing.
You do not destroy millions of American jobs because a few quacks with an agenda determine that CO2 is causing global warming. Good lord people.
AGW is nothing more then a usurpation of our jobs to be sent overseas to developing nations in a far left feel good move to PAY a PENALTY for being prosperous.
As Gordon Brown Promised to Stockholm the EU will send 100’s of billions of dollars to devolping countries…..blah…blah…blah.
The real agenda of AGW is to penalize Western industrial nations and send 150-760 billion dollars per year to devolping nations so that they can take ALL OUR JOBS.
Anyone who subscribes to AGW needs to be aware of just what it is the people you support really want to accomplish…..and it aint to save the planet…..its to ship jobs overseas.
PERIOD…end of story…or perhaps the beginning.

While the President of the United States Obama has been rightly linked with his use of a telepromter. Iacocca’s comments seem to be broader based, a challenge to Dems or Repubs to be able to articulate understandable solutions to a multitude of challenges.
