ATTENTION NFL FANS: These are PREVIOUS picks — go HERE to view the latest “expert” predictions for The GTL’s NFL Picks…
Last Week (Week 7): (8-5)
Year To Date: 68-35
All-Time (2006 Through 2008 Combined Record): 335-195-1…
Alright now, I can’t wait. LOTS of good NFL Week Eight matchups but the only one I’ll be weighing in a little on is the rematch between Brett Favre’s Minnesota Vikings and Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers. We all know the Vikes prevailed a few weeks ago but that was in the domed stadium environment and a home game for the Vikes. This Vikes/Pack clash II is going to be taking place at Lambeau Field where The Pack has a lackluster 2-1 home record, yet also enjoys a 13.83 PPG average winning margin (that’s according to the proprietary “fuzzy math” spewed out by The Official GTL™ Supercomputer — not by actual scoring, thank you very much), too.
Gives you something to think about, doesn’t it? Also, mind you, as most NFL fans are keenly aware, it’s tough to sweep any divisional opponent in the National Football League these days and it’s even tougher than usual in the NFC North. I predict a hard-hitting, somewhat lower scoring game and if you’re wondering who I’m going with straight up, catch it below.
Okay, as promised, that’s all the bloviating I’ll be doing this week and now I’ll be taking you directly to my predicted straight up winners of all the NFL Week 8 matchups…

Looking at the records, it reminds me of our economy. A fair amount in the upper class with zero, one, or two losses, a bunch in the lower class with zero, or one win, and not much in the middle. I think the games to watch are Giants/Eagles; Viks/Pack and Falcons/Saints.
The Niners might be a good game. Raiders/Chargers? Maybe there will be some good fights in the 4th.
@Joe Lovell, Joe! You’re starting to sound an awful lot like an NFL Populist Fan after all, bro… in other words, a REAL “NFL Liberal” sorta viewer/fan
@The GTL™, Well, the middle class is a pretty recent (in historic terms) phenom, Guns. And has always been kind of precarious. When it shrinks, most go down to the lower class, a few into the upper. When it expands, almost all come from the lowerclass moving up. We’ve had a pretty good run with a substanital middle class. It will contract for a bit, but it will expand again.
And thank you for saying Liberal not liberal.
@Joe Lovell,
Deeee-nada, bro!
I’m in. After last weeks game against the Steelers, I HAVE to say the Vikes are real. I’m actually skedding my day around the bloody game! Haven’t done that in a decade.
@Bob Brashear, Definitely the game of the week, Bob…
Cripes, I thought we were going to see a classic Vikings choke. Lousy tackling by the defense and a wide open secondary, but they pulled it off. Couple weeks to recover, thank the gods.
Been going to football on and off throughout the day and been thinking of sports, and football and parity. And why, at least here in CA so many on the left don’t want any competitive sports in schools, especially in primary and middle school.
Look at what parity has done. By making, or attempting to make, everyone equal, we get mediocrity. No teams that can really dominate for years on end. Fewer really good rivalries. We are half way through the season and about a third of the teams have no or one win. And this has been a trend growing over the past decade.
Even the teams that are X and 0 or X and 1 are not all that good, and like as not will be close to the bottom next season.
No wonder so many of the left don’t like competitive sports – not only do they teach kids that competition is part of life, but the parity at the professional level shows the paupacity of the idea of leveling of society.
Joe, we have found that non-team, individual participant sports get around that non-competition bias. My son fences sabre. Had to work his butt off to succeed and he finally is. There is no way his skill, drive and dedication can be diluted by anyone else but himself. He recently finished 13th at the Remenyik Super Regional Open in Chicago. He went up against and ultimately lost to the 2008 German National Champion. Made the guy fight hard for that win. But what he took away from that bout was immeasurable.Confidence, pride and a 6 inch katana (samurai sword):).
I repeat no one can take away his accomplishments and bring him down to “parity”. That’s where the individual sport shines.
@Bob Brashear, That’s GREAT! but WEAPONS!?!?! tisk, tisk. And all that aggression!
But I know what you mean about individual sports. I wrestled. And I saw some guys who were real screw ups come onto the team thinking they were real hot, and found out real fast that no one really cared about their bad habits and bad guy reps. Amazing the amount of self disciplin they gained in just a few weeks.
Congrats to your son, by the way. Even a loss to someone of that level can feel like a win.
@Joe Lovell,
Yeah, weapons. AND it’s an elitist sport for rich people, blah blah, blah. I say Doom on Them if they can’t take a joke.
Tony says thanks.
@Bob Brashear, LOL
I was teaching my step-kids bayonet when they were about 11 or so. Swedish Mauser, Chilieno Mauser, Scabbards tied on. Also sword and shield. Mace was a bit heavy for them.
Some commentary on the Chargers/Raiders game:
From AP
“Some things never change in San Diego, such as the great weather and LaDainian Tomlinson and the San Diego Chargers beating the hapless Oakland Raiders.
Tomlinson scored twice, the first in the wildcat, and the Chargers won 24-16 on Sunday, their 13th straight victory against the Raiders. It’s the longest active NFL winning streak by one team over another.
The Chargers (4-3) have swept the series for the sixth straight season. Many Chargers, including quarterback Philip Rivers, have never lost to the Raiders (2-6). It was San Diego’s seventh straight home win against the Raiders.
Oh, and Shawne Merriman got his first two sacks since 2007, dropping JaMarcus Russell late in the second quarter and again late in the fourth, then doing his spasmodic “Lights Out” dance. The outside linebacker has been slow coming back from knee surgery that cost him the final 15 regular-season games and both playoff games last year.”
Love it – ‘cost him the final 10 regular-season games…’
