ATTENTION NFL FANS: These are PREVIOUS picks — go HERE to view the latest “expert” predictions for The GTL’s NFL Picks…
Last Week: (7-7)
Year To Date: 51-25
All-Time (2006 Through 2008 Combined Record): 335-195-1…
Okay, first things first — my sincerest, humblest apologies to anybody who bet their first born child, a steamy night alone with their spouse, their houses, their cars or anything else of importance based upon my DISMAL Week Five picks (7-7 — my worst showing of the year). Okay, that’s all you get though — I’m sorry but I cannot reimburse anybody for their straight up losses based upon my so-called “expert NFL picks”. What’s done is done, but I’ll try and do better this week.
Story of the week? The draft-dodging gas bag of a shock talk radio host, Rush Limbaugh of course, lost his bid to become an owner of the dismal Saint Louis Rams (AP), apparently based upon being a loudmouthed, sometimes even teetering a bit too closely toward bigotry and even racism in some of his speech. Knowing I’m a Liberal, I’ll bet you are assuming I’m on the side of Commish Roger Goodell and some of the owers who said “no way!” You would be mistaken for making that assumption.
Fact is, we’re talking about a league filled with some thugs of the lowest order and the NFL allows “2nd chances” on a regular basis. How can a league that routinely allows a “Terrell Owens” to spout off hateful speech toward his teammates FORBID another self-inflated gasbag from joining the party? How can a football league that allows convicted felons to participate in it forbid that particular [psst... "alleged"] pill-popping, doctor shopping criminal from participating in it? How can a football Commish who thinks it’s just fine if New England QB Tom Brady to actively promote G.O.P. values and hang out with his hero, (former) President Bush and forbid another guy with likeminded points of view to be a part of the NFL? Where’s the consistency, Mr. Goodell?
I say allow the hate-speech filled THUG to buy a franchise if that’s what he wants to do. Your mileage may vary and that’s just fine with me. To MOI — a TRUE Liberal is the person who stands up for the 1st Amendment and understand we HAVE a 1st Amendment to protect those who say “mean”, “bad”, or “hateful” things from a government that would infringe upon that core right of EVERY American but that’s just me. There’s no reason whatsoever to protect the speech of the folks who say “nice” things all the time. THINK about it.
Okay, I’m off my soapbox now. Onto my straight up NFL Week Six picks. O-pine in the comments section of my column, please, and good luck to you and your teams.

Agree? Disagree? Have your own picks? Post them into the comments section below…

Gotta agree with you, Guns. The NFL has gotten as bad as the NBA used to be. Or maybe still is.
I was hoping that Limbaugh would get a team. Then maybe Davis would look good in comparison.
@Joe Lovell, LOL!!! Davis makes Limbaugh seem sane…
It would be real hard for our good friends at Budweiser to even remotely associate their product name with even the gentelest of the many Limbaugh personalities.
Speaking of football. I’m guessing that you finally came to your senses GTL in going with “MY” Patriots. Or did Mom chew your butt out royally for being so disrespectful all these weeks to your bro? LMFAO!
@Papamoka, Yep, bro — Mamma got on my arse for picking against the Pats. Hopefully they’ll not let me down this weekend otherwise I’m gonna have’ta raise some hell @ Christmas dinner this year
@GTL-Big Cheer from your radical brainwashed on talk radio friend Mike here on your column. I can argue till I’m blue in the face that Rush doesn’t say things demeaning about any race but that being an aside. True liberals should be, as you said, advocating freedom of speech even if it was racially offensive. I’ll have to ask you sometime what you think about hate crime laws. I bet you would guess right about my opinion on them. I don’t really analyse that much when it comes to football picks, but my gut feeling is this week will have a bunch of upsets and I suspect your picks will be down in the 8-6 range. Good luck though. I hope Vikes win 6 straight but I’d be putting money on Ravens if I was near a sports book.
@Mike 300 Spartans, Brother — I’m bettin’ we feel exactly the SAME in regards to so-called “hate speech” without having to write another column on it
“Rush Limbaugh is upset that the Governor of Maryland may appoint an African-American to replace Baltimore’s corruptocrat Mayor Sheila Dixon, who is under indictiment for theft and perjury. Limbaugh is quoted as saying:
“My concern is who would the governor appoint? What if the governor appointed somebody colored? … Would he appoint a negro to be the mayor?”" ( I dug that little bit up on a real leftist forum a few days ago)
WOW! He must really be a racist!
Well…….maybe, maybe not.
From the Baltimore Sun:
“Leaders of the Maryland NAACP, worried that a Baltimore mayor’s criminal conviction could result in the appointment of a white or Republican leader who may not fully represent the majority black and Democratic city, are asking state lawmakers to strip the governor of authority to permanently fill the office.
Marvin L. Cheatham, the president of the Baltimore Chapter of the NAACP, introduced the resolution because he heard an attorney on a radio program discussing a lack of clarity on succession if Dixon were to be convicted and sentenced.
“Our concern is who would the governor appoint?” Cheatham said. “Here you have a predominantly African-American city. What if the governor appointed somebody white? … Would he appoint someone Irish to be the mayor?”

Gee…it looks like he was doing a parody of what the NAACP said. So Rush got jumped on as racist. But no one said anything about the NAACPs racist remarks. Why no outrage at the remarks by Cheatham? Aren’t they the real racist remarks?
Of course, once it got out what the real source was, and it was clear to even the most strident lefty hate-mongers that the real racist remark came from the NAACP, it died down faster than a fart in a hurricane.
I also like that once again the social engineers of the left are trying to change the rules in the middle of the game (see the rule change in MA after St. Ted died).
Might as well get this out of the way now:
GAWDAMPHUCKINRAIDERS!
There. I feel SO much better.
@Joe Lovell, LMFAO!!! I’m just glad my Niners have a bye week after the butt-whoopin’ they endured at the hands of the fearsome Seahawks last week…
Six an’ two for the morning. Lookin’ good, Guns.
@Joe Lovell, Those four afternoon games are scaring me though. Your Raiders are giving Philly a game thus far — congrats to you on that’n
@The GTL™, Wow, they WON!!! Must be because of my post. Yeah. That’s it! So now I need to post that before kickoff of every game to make sure they win.
And the Pats kicked some serious butt.
But,yeah, the afternoon games are beating you up.
@Joe Lovell, You’ve figgered it out, bro! For the best of luck next week, repeat after MOI:
“GAWDAMPHUCKINRAIDERS!”
When does a win feel so much like a loss? I’m really happy the Vikes won but their defense left in the third quarter and I don’t know when it is coming back.
P.S.-I emailed you another article.
Day-um! That was a helluva game!
@Joe Lovell, 9-5 — 64%. Nothing spectacular but on par with my historical record and much better than Vegas as usual
And yep — one HELLUVA game, bro
