Senator Harkin: “Bring it out there, let’s vote on it”
President Barack Hussein Obama’s “public option” — what a TREASONOUS idea! Our Founding Fathers would be rolling over in their graves at the thought of every poor child in our Great Democratic Republic Great Oligarchy receiving PREVENTATIVE health care so they could have an avenue available to them to avoid becoming carriers of deadly diseases when they now have the “option” to carry those advanced deadly diseases with them to the G.O.P.’s “free healthcare for all Americans” solution called “The Emergency Rooms of America”.
So, what exactly DID Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and the rest of our Founding Fathers mean when they signed a document with such catch-phrases as “promote the general welfare” and promoting the continued funding of SCIENCE? If you said “Emergency Rooms”, you got it right, as long as you are a Washingtonian Republican, that is.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again — the far-right in our country, which seems to include the vast, VAST majority of G.O.P. politicians, HAS to be the most Darwinian group of folks I’ve ever seen or heard of. Remember Katrina? In case you missed it, I wrote a column back in February of 2007 that should wake the HELL out of ANYBODY who’s opposed to a public healthcare ObamaCare option, or helping the poor foke’ out obeying the wishes and appreciating the GENIUS of our Founding Fathers who saw all this crappola from the far-right coming miles and years away and TRIED THEIR VERY BEST to help insure the GENERAL WELFARE of the MASSES were to be taken care of by the federal government. Period. In other words: your favorite Republican Congressperson or Senator speaks — RUN THE OTHER WAY would be my best advice. Left to their own devices, the Republicans would be the first to stand up for Darwin and would become his first victims of his “natural selection theory“. (WikiPedia)
Luckily, there really ARE a few “smart folk” up in Washington and surprisingly (at least, to MOI — and yep — part French and proud of it) who see the value in preventative medicine for EVERYBODY in America who needs it. Namely, as referenced in both the title and subtitle, Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa. Apparently, this crazy “Midwestern Lib” is saying he’s taken polls in the Senate and he’s got enough votes in that particular chamber to help save the lives of his fellow Americans who proudly flaunt that “R” behind their names from eradicating themselves by opposing common sense policy (The Hill) such as THE (drumroll….) PUBLIC OPTION. Just as the public option is designed to help save disadvantaged Americans and the rest of us from premature deaths, Senator Harkin and a handful of other Democratic Congressfolks are trying to combat the “haters” of this concept from doing the very same thing. Good job, Senator.
But here’s the thing — the Republicans’ argument against the public option of ObamaCare seems to center on the fact that even though 40,000,000+ folks in America don’t enjoy the convenience of private healthcare insurance, a bunch of them are illegal aliens. A bunch of them are healthy. And a bunch more are so healthy they don’t need it. They keep whittling and whittling down that “40 million Americans uninsured” number to somewhere around 10 million and say “See? It’s all overblown! We don’t NEED no stinkin’ public option!”. DUH. That just means a public option would be MUCH CHEAPER to fund, doesn’t it? THINK.
Ever heard of Typhoid Mary, folks? Yep, sometimes “it takes a village” and sometimes it takes just ONE…
And I’m betting the house on the assumption Typhoid Mary Mallon did NOT have healthcare insurance. I might be wrong though — I frequently AM…

You folks do realize all of the massive taxes that are being proposed to pay for this dont you?
Its estimated that the democrats want to raise 300 billion per year in taxes on just health insurance. YOU know that promise OBAMA made that said 95 percent of Americans will not see their INCOME TAXES rise one dime.
Well hes no liar. He had no plan to raise your INCOME TAXES. But hes raising taxes on everything else to pay for his entitlement program.
Cap and Trade.
Massive taxes on health care.
The administration is floating a national VAT.
and not a penny of this is to pay for the deficit.
So follow along here….the government is going to slap another huge BIG GOVERNMENT entitlement program on us, raise taxes to pay for it and continue on their merry way with 700billion to 1 trillion dollar deficits….AFTER RAISING TAXES.
We are headed to bankruptcy time. There is going to be no more money to squeeze out of the turnip. The democrats are on the road to perdition. No one can argue having health care for everyone is not a good idea. But look at Medicare. Medicaide. Social Security. Run by the government….good programs and they are bankrupt…..This is a back breaker folks. Pure and simple.
Whats even more depressing about this program. Even after all these taxes its going to cost us now 1.1 trillion dollars over 10 years. Additionally these numbers do not even include the cost of insuring the further 10-20 million Illegals that the democrats are going to legalize next year with their new immigration reform bill.
@GawdDayumAmerica, “Deficits don’t matter.” –Dick Cheney
Comments?
@bad dog, Its not about “deficits” Scooby Dog, its about taxing those of us that actually live in the U.S. to death. Guess we wont need healthcare at that point (hump, hump)…
Well Cheney was wrong. You’ll find no Bush/Cheney apologist at this end of the internet.
@cld, He doesn’t understand the difference between getting his leg humped and his shoe pissed on does he?
@vegofish, I’m trying to tell the difference between your Tourette’s Syndrome comments and CLD’s.
@cld, Stop being an asshole.
@cld, Hey dickface, why do you call Bad Dog “Scooby”? Because you’re a dick and you have nothing else to say? Because you’re a total suckass loser who can’t have a real argument so you make up shit and then hound him with your lame ass bullshit?
Well, here is what Jimmy M. had to say about the “general welfare” clause:
“With respect to the two words ‘general welfare,’ I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.” –James Madison
Hmmm…..seems like the guy who wrote them didn’t think they were a blank cheque to let any branch of the federal government exceed the enumerated powers ceded to it by We the People via that owners manual we call the Constitution of the United States.
(flips through a few more pages) AH! And Tommy J. seemed to think that even with those magic words “general welfare” that the powers of the federal gov’t are, and should be limited to only what We the People expressly ceded to it:
“I see…with the deepest affliction, the rapid strides with which the federal branch of our government is advancing towards the usurpation of all the rights reserved to the States, and the consolidation in itself of all powers, foreign and domestic…aided by a little sophistry on the words ‘general welfare,’ a right to do, not only the acts to effect that, which are specifically enumerated and permitted, but whatsoever they shall think, or pretend will be for the general welfare.”
Pretty strong words from the both of them, don’t you think? And pretty damning of our current state of affairs.
@Joe Lovell, Really great post Joe. Makes you wonder how supposed scholars of the constitution could possibly misinterpret the significance of their thoughts on the matter.
@vegofish, It’s simple they just apply “a little sophistry on the words ‘general welfare,’ (to give themsleves) a right to do, not only the acts to effect that, which are specifically enumerated and permitted, but whatsoever they shall think, or pretend will be for the general welfare.” Just like Tom said.
I’ve posted this link before, but I think the piece here is a perfect example of the thinking that goes on in Washington City.
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig4/ellis1.html
When the facts fail them and the numbers don’t add up, the left always takes the argument to it’s lowest level. Whether it be racism, bigotry or lack of empathy, if you disagree with them, your morality must certainly be in question.
@vegofish, Uh, right. Who said this?
“He doesn’t understand the difference between getting his leg humped and his shoe pissed on does he?”
And this:
“Its not about “deficits” Scooby Dog, its about taxing those of us that actually live in the U.S. to death. Guess we wont need healthcare at that point (hump, hump)”
Well it was you in both cases, but that’s besides the point. You can always count on wingnuts to take an argument to its most childish level possible.
@bad dog, Who said this?
Sorry, GDA, but you’re neither. You’re a hypocrite, plain and simple. And a rapist.
You can always count on MOONBATS to take an argument to its most childish level possible.
@GawdDayumAmerica, Childish?
You say liberal actors like Susan Sarandon should shut up, but praised John Wayne, when Wayne was a right winger active in politics and even helped get fellow actors blacklisted.
Which makes you a hypocrite.
You say you’re okay with liberals in the media as long as they don’t “trash the president” or “trash their country,” but right wing actors and pundits do this all the time, and you don’t see to mind.
Which makes you a hypocrite.
You equate doing these things with Polanski raping a minor. So since you do the same things, I equate what you say to raping a minor.
Hence, by your own logic, you’re a rapist.
If that’s childish, so be it. But I was working with your childish logic to begin with.
@CLD is an asshole,
Scuse me? Right wing actors? Hmm. Which one would that be. I dont rightly recall too many of those?
Point em out Bad Dog and Ill put them on my list if they are calling obama names.
@GawdDayumAmerica, Bad Dog? Who’s Bad Dog???? I’m “Chris Doster sucks the big one.” Address me by MY PROPER NAME!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s a list of conservative Hollywood celebrities. Ever hear of Arnold Schwarzenegger? Gary Sinese? Stephen Baldwin? James Caan? Dan Ackroyd?
http://rightwingchicky.wordpress.com/2008/10/22/conservative-hollywood-they-do-exist/
But wait. Let me get this straight. You can be a wingnut, get outraged at an imaginary offense, and take to the streets calling Obama Hitler the Muslim Antichrist Fascist Socialist Communist, during WWIII, and that doesn’t bother.
But you CAN’T be a liberal Hollywood actor and criticize Bush. That’s practically treason.
Oh, I get it now. You have a DOUBLE STANDARD. Which makes you a HYPOCRITE.
Now it all makes sense.
@Chris Doster Sucks The Big One,
Your projecting Bad Dog.
You do a very bad job of projecting as well.
Has Arnold Swartzenegger called Obama names? Marched in the streets in protests against the sitting president?
Dan Akroyd? Gary Sinese goes to the middle east and entertains the troops….But has he marched in the streets…called Obama Fascist, communist?
Show me where they have done that and I will most certainly put them on their list.
As for you my furry friend. You are simply projecting onto me your own hypocrisy. You must be a closet pedophile and want me to be one as well so you dont feel all alone now that your idol Roman has been arrested.
You really should seek help from the screen actors guild BD. They can make up a story for you in which everything works out just fine.
@GawdDayumAmerica, Thanks for your response, my homosexual pederast friend!
How about Rush Limbaugh?
Oh RIGHT, your principle only covers ACTORS. Not entertainers like Rush. Or entertainers like Bill O’Reilly. Or professional liars like Sean Hannity and the rest of the scum on Faux News.
Your principle only covers people you have a preconceived notion are liberal. Like the rest of your principles, it only covers people you don’t like and inconveniences you none at all. Like your anger at rape of minors only extends to girls, but you’d like to rape boys. I get it now.
I hope you’ll get help for those weird urges you feel when you see old Backstreet Boys videos. Even an old fart like you can find a cure.
@bad dog, Bad Dog did I ever mention I listened to Rush Limbaugh? Or Bill O’Reilly? Or Sean Hannity?
Your projecting again. Did you have to register as a sexual offender when you moved to Canada Bad Dog?
As for liberal actors.
I offered Susan Sarandon the right and the priveledge to march in the street. Im not out their stopping her. Shes got my permission to do it. I just dont have to agree with it. I dont agree with it and I wont support her. You dont support Rush Limbaugh do you? Do you pay him by listening to his show?
Your projecting again Bad Dog.
Raping little boys? Only in your dreams Bad Dog. Your projecting Bad Dog. You know you admire and want to be just like Roman Polanski when you grow up.
Admit it. Confession is good for the soul.
Hello. Your Bad Dog and you like little boys. Come clean Bad Dog your projections give you away.
@GawdDayumAmerica, LMAO GDA; “Hello. Your Bad Dog and you like little boys. Come clean Bad Dog your projections give you away.” — You hit the nail on the head with that one GDA. Every time the Gay Dog throws out a new insult, he seems to be reaching deeper into his own experiences.
@Fandb, Ah, the sweet wine of bitter Republican tears.
P.S. You should tell your boss that you may have found a new energy source—Republican mock rage. It might save your company from bankruptcy.
@GawdDayumAmerica, And the Republican scumbag fest continues with GDA, coming at you straight from the gutter.
Don’t forget what you’ve done in the past when I’ve bested you, GDA. You quit and come back under a different name and even more grating personality. You could always do that again.
@bad dog, Yep with you bad dog I had to set up shop in the gutter. It seems its the only language that sexual predators understand.
Quit? Because that bothers you so much I would explain it but I don’t think I will. If thats your only victory in life and it matters so much to you that you bring it up several times a day then your life has evolved into a more pointless existence then even “I” could imagine for you.
The only thing you’ve bested Bad Dog is most likely another little boy down the street. As for besting me? Only in your perverted dreams.
Recently, my insurance carrier announced a 9% increase to what I currently pay for my premium. I’m employed as a full time social worker in the poorest state in this country, MS. Now then, imagine if you will just how much moolah I’m raking in… and then, consider that I pay approx $520/month for insurance for my daughter and myself… for those of you that aren’t up to date on the going rate for social workers, that’s almost ¼ of my monthly income… And guess what y’all? Even though many people assume that paying premiums for health care provided by one’s employer automatically insures that everything is covered, it does not! I pay insanely high deductibles, many things are not covered and those that are, are only covered at 70%… So the question, for me at least, become: do I want to pay higher taxes so that everyone in my country can see a doctor when they’re sick, or, do I want to pay higher premiums to make a bunch of fat cats fatter? Tough one isn’t it?!
@Kaye Harris, If that was indeed your only two choices, I can see you being in favor of higher taxes that hopefully wouldn’t hit a lower wage earner too much. But what about other solutions? If competition among private health insurance providers were opened up, (alledgedly held back by state restrictions, I can’t say I’ve researched that aspect.) what would be wrong with having better private plans at lower prices? I do understand Mississipi has reformed its tort laws to help the devastation it had on business, I just suspect there are other improvements that could be made on a state level. I don’t know, I just suspect this.
@Mike 300 Spartans, “what would be wrong with having better private plans at lower prices” — Exactly. That is the real solution. It’s what they do in Switzerland, and it works. Too bad the democrats aren’t proposing a plan that is more like the Swiss plan, if they did it just might work, and they might even get republicans to vote for it.
Raising taxes by 300 Billion in a country of 300 million? That is $1000 for every man, woman, and child in the country. But it won’t be divided up that way. People with higher incomes will pay for the program, people with lower incomes will not. That is “redistribution of wealth”. That is “Socialized Medicine”.
GTL: “DUH. That just means a public option would be MUCH CHEAPER to fund, doesn’t it? THINK.” — But it won’t work that way. All those people will be required to have medical coverage one way or another. Even illegal aliens will receive amnesty and legal status (as proposed under other bills) and will be added to the public dole. So the bottom line is that ALL of the 40 million or so that you mention will be added to the system.
@Fandb, Thanks for the validation F&B.
I wish I had some of the individual state restrictions that gunk up everything. But you have to give GTL credit for understanding the founding fathers, the whole idea was to have each individual contribute to society according to their ability and society providing for everyone according to their need. Well, perhaps that wasn’t American founding fathers, but it was some founding father’s concept.
@Mike 300 Spartans, Yeah, like Karl Marx. Not sure he was considered a founding father of anything, except maybe Socialism…
@Mike 300 Spartans,
@ Mike 300: Yes, well, wading through all of the rhetoric is a challenge that even on good days, boggles the mind… I do realize that it doesn’t necessarily have to be an either or choice. However, in Mississippi, businesses and families already shoulder a hidden health tax of roughly $800 per year on premiums as a direct result of subsidizing the costs of the uninsured. So right now, we’re paying for both! All things being equal though, it seems to me that these 2 options; status quo or government run program, are the only realistic options on the table thus far… As to other solutions; personally, I’d love to see a plan that included a public and private option. The most ludicrous idea I’ve heard is of cost control through regulations… I do not believe for one minute that regulations being levied against health insurance providers would control cost…. Call me cynical, but I’ve no doubt that should cost control be the only option, large insurance companies would find a way to pass this cost on to consumers. Further, I do not see competition among private health insurance providers as an option that would benefit the majority of poor, or working poor people.
Either way, something must be done and soon. I don’t expect that any plan will be perfect, or that it will please ALL of the people, but we must start somewhere… Families, poor and middle class, simply can’t afford the status quo and deserve better. Thank you for your feedback.
Guns, time for you to blow the whistle and throw a yellow flag on some of these comments (and one user name).
@Joe Lovell, Thanks Joe…it appears the GTL has lost it completly…first introducing the “Bad Dog”, and now this….wow, what a shame a great site has become this…nice work GTL…
@cld, I’m beginning to think that GTL just wants all the conservatives to leave.
@Fandb, Right, because GTL won’t let you be abusive unchallenged, and when a liberal actually challenges you back, you have a hissy fit like the whining girl you are. (And did I mention treasonous as well?)
“WE BOTH KNOW WHO THE TRAITOR IS BAD DOG??? DON’T WE??? BAD DOG??? DON’T WE!?!?!?”
Can dish it out but can’t take it. Pathetic. Boo hoo.
I’ll leave you to take solace in that Risk Board.
@bad dog, Fine, you just want to exchange name calling instead, I can have fun with that too Gay Dog. So keep your meds handy, I’d hate to see you melt down again like you did last week.
Yeah, we do know who the real traitor is, Gay Dog, it is you. I can take it all day and dish it right back you Anti-American traitorous dick-breath canadian loser. You have no clue what makes America run. You’re just frustrated with no friends, clearly, and no one to talk to. I’ve seen your type many times. But you are correct about one thing, you are pathetic.
@Fandb, Here we go again. The Two Minute Hate brought to you by the Self-Hating Gay Republican, FagB.
And the meltdown continues…
I—I—I can’t help myself. It’s just too funny watching you go red in the face, sprout horns, and go ballistic on a guy named Bad Dog on the Internet who got under your skin and has you totally worked up. So here it goes:
You’re a traitor. You’re not only a traitor to your country, Mr. Wingnut, but to your religion. You’re not only a pretend American, but a pretend Christian.
Now what do you think about that?
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm fun.
@bad dog, Hey Fag Dog, what makes you think I’m totally “worked up”? I can guarantee you that I’m not. You’re not as abrasive as you apparently think you are. It’s just like communicating with a foul-mouthed 10 year-old. There you go projecting again, you spend day and night on the internet spouting your meaningless drivel at everyone here. I pity you that you obviously have no life other than this.
@Fandb, Gee, what makes me think you’re worked up? Well, you’re acting like an out-of-control ass, for one. You keep coming back with the same lame personal attacks liberals have endured for eight years—[in a shrill sissy voice] “why do you hate america, traitor running fag dog?”—so why do you think if you write your acidic garbage with extra-hard keystrokes on your keyboard that I’m going to care?
I’m sorry I got under your skin for calling you a traitor after you said I want Iran to nuke the U.S. and therefore I hate America. But not sorry for calling you a traitor, as your narrow minded, arrogant, myopic, soulless ideology has nearly ruined this great country over the last eight years, and all I see is you demanding more of the same.
But as for getting you riled up so that you keep coming back like a screaming child angry cuz a liberal said something mean back to him?
So sorry

@bad dog, Whatever. Just go wherever your lonely gay delusions take your Anti-American traitorous little socialist heart.
Careful not to crack the keys on your little keyboard with those hard little keystrokes when you respond yet again Gay Dog.
@Fandb, And you get the last word, as I will be observing our Kaye-inspired truce.
@Fandb, Oh, HELL no, brother — I’m having more fun than I’ve EVER had with this blog now that the frigging rules have pretty much gone out of the window. PLEASE… PLEASE keep those YouTubes going… LMFAO!!!!
@The GTL™, From censorship to anarchy,:) watch out, some people can’t handle all that freedom.
Alinsky in action. The problem everyone is simple……….THERE IS NO HEALTHCARE CRISIS IN AMERICA.
Our healthcare system is just fine. It does need some work. Some attention but as this poll shows conducted by Gallup…..
:::Americans are broadly satisfied with the quality of their own medical care and healthcare costs, but of the two, satisfaction with costs lags. Overall, 80% are satisfied with the quality of medical care available to them, including 39% who are very satisfied. Sixty-one percent are satisfied with the cost of their medical care, including 20% who are very satisfied:::
THERE IS NO CRISIS………ALINSKY….create a crisis……then use the opportunity to fix what ordinarily you would never be able to fix.
ALINSKY my fellow conservatives….ALINSKY…..OBAMA’s Emmanuel said “never let a good crisis go to waste”
Create a crisis……then fix it……ALINSKY my friends.
***80**** percent of Americans are just fine with our current health care system. Are their holes? Yep. Can we make some adjustments? Yep
But their is NO CRISIS….Dont let them fool you they have once again defined the debate when in fact they are nothing but concocting fabrications to stir up a crisis so that they can fix that which AINT BROKEN.
@GawdDayumAmerica, It is interesting to see the difference in the approach to this situation between a liberal like GTL and a socialist like Gay Dog.
@Fandb, Or a sophisticated conservative thinker like GDA and somebody who’s simply a Nazi dick, like you.
@GawdDayumAmerica, @GDA: Ahhh, excuse me, no crisis? Ha! And there was no Holocaust either… Wonder if Gallup has polled the folks living in homeless shelters, the single mom’s working in all night diners, the small business owners, or hospital ER staff… ya know, the places where the folks who have NO insurance show up?
You make another excellent point here GDA. The Anti-American Traitor Gay Dog is just Hi-Jacking GTL’s post to distract the discussion away from Health Care and the Socialist “Public Option”.
I’d say “Ignore it and maybe it will go away” but I know that won’t work, so even just ignore it long enough to stay on the point.
Socializing Health Care in America is a losing proposition for ALL tax-paying citizens.
@Fandb, There, there, my self-loathing gay Republican friend. Let it all out. Let all your misplaced rage out. Get seriously pissed at some guy you don’t know on the Internet, and then make a fool of yourself pouring your hate into your keyboard.
Doesn’t that feel better?

Excuse me gentleman, but I have one last comment… This juvenile behavior is ridiculous. And exactly why we can’t solve the problems facing this country today… It seems to me that no matter which side of the great divide, liberal or conservative, one falls on, name calling is not intelligent discourse… I read this and other blogs, news articles, etc, to better understand the issues and make more informed decisions. If your mind is made up on this topic, good on ya, but there may actually be people out here in cyberland who want a rational discussion of the fact, and we do not actually care weather or not you’re gay, for pity’s sake… Grow up would ya?!
@Kaye Harris, I am guilty of the juvenile behavior that you mentioned, and you are correct in your assessment of it. I think you have a very refreshing perspective on this (health care), and I’ll bet many other issues. I will stop my rude behavior immediately if you’ll stick around.
@Fandb, LOL kaye … In an extremely rare moment of unity, I will agree with FandB here, admit my share of guilt in juvenile mudslinging, and pledge to behave if you stick around! (As for growing up, though, let’s not get crazy.)
@bad dog, TY!
@Fandb, TY!
