We already KNEW the Republican Party likes to exploit Mexicans because they’re willing to work very hard, be abused by far-right owned corporations, and do so for pennies on the dollar in an effort to drive wages down. Conversely, we already knew the Democrats are willing to look past these human rights violations because they feel “sorry” for the Mexicans who violate our border and immigration laws who are simply here to make an honest living they, too appreciate the concept of slave labor in exchange for cheap strawberries and lettuce. And, who can disagree? After all, if there is a way to cripple America’s middle class and take it out of power by driving down their household wages by violating federal laws and allowing this Democratic Republic’s Oligarchy’s corporations to flourish by utilizing slave labor from one selected country, why not? After all, it is beneficial to the American People the two-party CARTEL in the end.
ObamaCare? The Public Option? Probably great ideas, in my not-so-humble and hypocritical opinion. After all, preventative medicine versus heading off to clog up the waiting lines at emergency rooms around the nation even saves such right-wing hacks as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly from contracting the swine flu. It’s called G.O.P. Darwinism to oppose such a concept, frankly, and it is the weak (“meek” according to the Holy Bible) who shall inherit the Earth in the end — trust me on this one (an angel confided in me) — it’s the O’Reilly and Limbaugh crowd who’ll be the first to suffer from the disease destined to wipe out one third of the Earth’s population because they subscribe to the concept that ER’s will fix the symptoms of the diseased amongst us. Unfortunately, by the time the diseased reach the ER’s, they’ve already spread their diseases to the Limbaugh-O’Reilly dittoheads’ and bloviators’ friends and families. Won’t be long after that ER visit until El-Rushbo is in the ER himself, but also in Intensive Care due to his suppressed immune system for years and years of pill-popping. See how this works?
Back to the point. President B.H. Obama has followed in the footsteps of all the Republicans before him who’ve attempted to shield their Corporations and their lobbying CEO’s from the letter of the law for purposely hiring slave labor Mexicans by both looking the other way and campaigning for a special “guest worker program” for one particular subset of our fellow Earthlings — Mexicans and Mexicans ONLY. Is this fair? My grandfather and grandmother on my father’s side of the family arrived here through the FRONT door from both Holland and Italy, in that order, and waited patiently for years before EARNING their United States Citizenship. Back then, Mexicans had to do the same and follow the same rules, and rightfully SO. I guarantee you they are both turning over in their graves at this quote from President B.H. Obama in The Washington Times:

Amen. Unfortunately, the president sounds exactly like my own Senator, Jeff Sessions on this issue. NOT ONE MENTION of rounding up the Boards of Directors, the CEO’s, and other major stockholders and upper management of these ILLEGAL CORPORATE CRIMINALS who purposely continue to overlook the loopholes in order to favor Mexican workers at lower prices over American workers who spend damned-near every single DIME of their earnings right here in the Good Ole’ U.S. of A. versus transporting them back home to Mexico to help devalue our Dollar. Bring on the Amero, eh?
President Obama — SIR — why pass “comprehensive immigration reform” when we’ve already got the laws in place, which simply need to be RIGIDLY ENFORCED? An illegal alien (sorry “IMMIGRANT”, I meant) is coughing up a lung, has H1N1 (“swine flu”), we treat him or her and send them back home then arrest their employer(s). Nannies? Tomatoe pickers? Lettuce pickers? I don’t give a DAMN; no more of a DAMN than I give to the Rolex wearing CRIMINALS who dangled the proverbial “carrots” to lure these people here in the first place.
How about just a TAD of common sense here, Mr. President? PLEASE — shy away from the “Right” for once and choose the PATH to the “right”. Do so, and we MIGHT actually consider re-electing you, President Obama.

a) Better fences and shovel ready border patrol jobs.
b) Like breaking the plane of the goal line in football, legalize anyone who physically touches our soil.
c) He means nothing, he just says it because he knows it sounds good to the people he is saying it to.
d) Something else.

Many pro immigration reformers seem to continually conflate two arguments. Their argument is that those who are opposed to Illegal immigration are opposed to immigration period. They invariably lump the two together because some on the right have voiced bigotry when it comes to immigration.
But lets look at a more poignant example of the unintended consequences of legalizing all these illegals in the next year or two.
The Bacchus bill just came out of the Finance committee. The cost of health care is estimated at 862 billion dollars over 10 years. This committee could ONLY work with numbers the CBO gave them.
Those numbers do NOT include the costs that will be incurred in insuring a large number of the 10-20 million Illegals that will be legalized in the coming year to 18 months under the Obama immigration reform coming most likely next year.
This is the US government where when they say something will cost 800 billion you can double, triple or quadruple it and they have not even taken into account all the illegals they are going to legalize AND using the 4x (FOUR TIMES) the poverty limit to either pay for or assist in paying for health care you can see that that 862 billion is going to sky rocket to exorbitant heights.
Legalize the illegals but then lets fix it. No more loopholes and fancy wording and failures to fund the INS or border guards. The unintended consequences of that is becoming startling clear and while they might provide economic benefits in a free market system, our free market system has been whittled down year after year after year till we are nearly as socialized as most of Europe.
Americans have turned a blind eye to this fact and the democrats gleefully keep throwing it in our face when we scream about socialized medicine. Social security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaide and now health care. Fully 1/2 of our budget will be for Socialism or socialized projects. Those Immigrants are becoming a burden…not an economic benefit.
Now the push is to have health care for all but paid for by private insurances. Well thats what Medicare is. However The US government does not subsidize seniors. They are going to subsidize the poor even if its a government option or NOT.
Either way we cannot afford trillions more in debt and thats a guarantee if we go ahead with health care reform that will soon encompass all those illegal aliens as well.
Yes its a lie that Illegals will not be covered. Just the way Obama frames it its the truth…..sort of.

Or are you saying we can’t have immigration reform that may entail legalizing illegals because they might get to enjoy a public healthcare option as citizens?

The immigrants are actually having far less impact on our job markets than our unwillingness to levy tariffs against imported goods. Start hitting everything that crosses our borders with a 25+% markup and we’ll start producing things again. When that happens we won’t have a rapidly diminishing job pool for the immigrants to undercut. While I realize 25+% markups make it really hard to import goods from China, it falls well inside the realm of “Tough shit, Jack.”. I’m including overseas factories owned by Americans, by the way. The only people that will be bothered by this are the people that own companies based entirely on selling sweatshop goods.
Most of the politicians also don’t want the illegal immigrants to be made citizens, either. That imbues them with constitutional protections and federal defenders. Everyone knows what a buzzkill it is to have OSHA showing up when you’ve got 30 guys in sneakers with no hardhats packed into one pickup truck at a construction site. They’d much prefer to keep the status quo going. The one where the immigrants know to jump off the truck and run away so the guy that hired them for 2 dollars an hour doesn’t get any grief.

Because it is a whole hell of a lot easier for any capon to stand and pontificate and pass more and more laws, which will not be enforced, than to actually bite the bullet, put funding into enforcement, and actually DO something about a problem. Look at the gun laws for a perfect example of that. They don’t really want to stop crime, but they need to be seen to be Doing Something about crime, so they tack on another bs anti-gun law.
And also because MECHA and La Raza and other such groups will start yelling RACIST and DISCRIMINATION if anything effective is done. And, as GDA pointed out, somehow being against ILLEGAL immigration has somehow become the equal of being agianst all immigration, at least in the rhetoric of the social engineers.
We will never stop illegal immigration from south of the border as long as there is such a strong economic and political motivation to come here. There are really only two ways to fight illegal immigration effectively. The first is to rigorously enforce laws preventing the hiring of illegal aliens. Put employers in jail, fines won’t work, jail time will. Then, promote the economic improvements in Mexico (and others) that will decrease the economic advantage that illegal aliens see, the economics that drive them to flee their homeland for the promise of better things in the U.S.
You don’t do this by tearing down the U.S., but by building up Mexico. The intent of NAFTA is to do this. But it is a long term proposition. There is no quick, easy solution here. “Amnesty” programs will only make matters worse – you will Increase the incentive to Mexicans and others to come here illegally.
@Fandb, Of course you are right F&B in principle, but how does one “build up” Mexico? Dump money in the hands of Mexican politicians? Get permission from Mexico to export our marvelous big government programs there? If people were all angels, even communism would work, the challenge is creating plans that work with people that may be willing to help and sacrifice for others some of the time, but often operate out of selfishness. That is the miracle of the United States of America, a system inspired by God that works for the good of everyone while putting in checks and balances to account for the fact that to some degree we are all flawed and selfish. Capitalism works in this world and Communism fails because the former works with the reality of selfishness that the latter ignores. I know this is all rudimentary to many on this site, but I suggest to you that we can as a group, as a nation, combine the inclination of the many to do good, because combine we can out weigh, out vote, any particular individual’s selfishness. But when we create a plan or vote on a plan, it has to account for the tendency of people to act selfishly.
I did notice you used the phrase: long term proposition, I’m sure you are right about that too. One thing that comes to mind is these international internet based loans, where people can invest in the amounts of as little as 5 or 10 dollars towards projects across the world and can potentially get their investment back. I saw a show on one of those, it started with a “K” I forget if it was Kivi , Kava, I don’t know, it sounded pretty good. The point is to have many projects on a small scale (much like how various churches operate) rather than one or two massive projects on a large scale like the way governments tent to operate.

Over time, Mexican wages will increase to the point that the economic incentive to move to the U.S. evaporates. As wages (and standard of living, etc.) increase in Mexico, there is greater economic pressure to move business to Honduras, Malaysia, China, etc., so a similar program of reciprocal free trade needs to exist in those areas as well. True globalization of the economy. This process also creates massive new markets which in turn creates many new jobs for the many new consumers. (Also, these are the areas that need the assistance and protection provided by labor unions now, not the U.S., the utility of labor unions here has passed.)

There is no easy solution there. Any ideas? [Some hints may exist in George Washington’s Farewell Address, I need to re-read that.)

The potential for a solution exists, but it won’t be achieved through sealing borders or government intervention. It will be achieved through innovation, entrepreneurship, and private businesses investing in the future potential of less developed countries. We need to continue allowing globalization of the economy to run its course, even though we know it will take decades for the fruit to mature.
I can’t remember the last insurance policy I had that didn’t emphasize preventive treatment, free or very inexpensive yearly physicals, free or very inexpensive dental checkups and cleaning. Yet the libs trumpet this as some great new idea that they came up with.

then they would be interested in working the farms. Although given their track record that may not be such a good idea. The highest levels of unemployment are often found in our largest cities, but those city folks often express an aversion to field work, preferring the largess of the gov’t over a change in geography. What a propaganda piece of crap.
Earlier in the week, after pollsters for NBC dropped the word “choice” from their question on a public option, they found that only 43 percent of the public were in favor of “creating a public health care plan administered by the federal government that would compete directly with private health insurance companies.”
Everybody wants choice. We just dont want the government dictating the choice for us.
