Last Week: (12-4)
Year To Date: (12-4)
All-Time (2006 Through 2008 Combined Record): 335-195-1…
Alright, fellow NFL fans — it’s that time again — time for me to pound my chest and remind you all of how brilliant The GTL™ is when it comes to picking the straight-up winners every week. 12-4 — not “stellar” by any means but a decent start nevertheless.
So, what, of note happened during this NFL Game Week number 2, 2009? Looks like the Bolts’ star running back, LaDainian Tomlinson is OUT (AP). That’s going to spell bad news for the Chargers with the Ravens coming to town — they need good ole’ LT in that backfield to win against the 1-0 Birds.
Now, let’s head off to the City of Brotherly Love where, guess who’s back in town? That’s right — Jeff Garcia, who’ll apparently be the number two (“emergency”) QB behind some guy named Kevin Kolb who’s never started an NFL game in his life and has never tossed a TD in the eight career games he’s participated in (AP). Donovan McNabb is injured and listed as “doubtful” for the Eagles’ home matchup versus the powerful 1-0 New Orleans Saints. Michael Vick, the doggie-torturer? Yeah, he’s been activated officially by NFL Commish, Roger Goodell but can’t play until NFL Week 3, or you could bet your bottom dollar he’d be the QB getting the nod this week. And this, folks, is why I must hesitantly go with the Saints over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last but not least, before we get to my complete NFL Week 2 picks — sounds like the cocky 1-0 Jets have made their Gameday strategy against the 1-0 Pats “public”. In case you missed it, the soon to be 1-1 Jets’ Gameday strategerie is to knock Tom Brady on his ass again and again and again and again (AP), and they won’t be bowing down to kiss the mighty Patriots of New England’s Superbowl rings either. OOPS. Can we say “bulletin board material”?
Okay, that’s damned near a “wrap” — time for my Week Two picks and hopefully, I’ll do at least as well as I did in Week 1 or better. Still — I wouldn’t suggest anybody bets their house on any of these picks…

I like watching football but don’t track the football news. The revealing strategy of the Jets sounds like more an attempt to play mind games with Brady. Hoping he might be one one-hundredth of a second more indecisive fearing ghost rushers. It may not work at all, but how much does it cost them to say it? Of course one of my favorite stories of reverse psychology in football was one I heard about Bill Parcels telling Lawrence Taylor before one particular game. According to the story, he spoke “in all sincerity ” that he had a hot tip the opponent was not only planning to double, but often triple team him all game so Parcels didn’t want Taylor discouraged if he got zero sacks and few tackles. Of course it worked like a charm, I don’t remember how many sacks Taylor got that day but it was one of his higher stats games within his career of high stats.

@Joe Lovell, Sorry bro… I had to dump “jordan”s spamming little a$$… if he wants to pay for advertising, that’s one thing

@Joe Lovell, Way to go with that spam clip. With your link I started watching more Monty Python that I hadn’t seen for a long time. “The argument clinic” incredibly funny. Perhaps even instructive in some ways.
@GTL- Good job on your picks, stay vigilant with that advertising stuff. But I dare say you have a rather loyal group here, if anything, I suspect a lot of us would go out of our way to avoid doing business with a company that steals advertising like that. Course I don’t have any near term plans to visit China anytime soon so I can
t tell them off personally.

@Mike 300 Spartans, Thanks, Mike. And sorry. Youtube is evil that way. Watch one clip, see a “related” one, watch that, and in 10 minutes two hours have just disappeared.
@ Guns – I figured that you would boot his spamming ass out, but glad I got that link in before you did.
I keep wondering “When is Al Davis finally going to die so the Raiders can become a real team again?” Kinda sad.

I have to agree, without LT the Bolts are pretty well screwed. And I don’t think the Raiders will take the Chiefs at home.

@Joe Lovell, I’d be a true believer in “the Raiders suck almost as bad as the Lions do” if they can’t take this one from KC. That stated, that wasn’t one of my more “confident” picks this week either…

@The GTL™, KEEY-RIST!! Two-and-a-half minutes left and KC gets a the first fricken’ TD of the game! To go ahead 10-6.
And the stats so far:
OAK KC
First Downs 6 25
Total Yards 100 403
Passing Yards 35 230
Rushing Yards 65 173
Penalties (Yds) 4(30) 8(55)
Turnovers 0 2
Punts (AVG) 7(46) 5(40)

ONE HUNDRED YARDS! Good LORD.
Guns, is it too early in the season to give up on them?

@Joe Lovell, Well dip me in batter and fry me for breakfast! They didn’t self destruct with stupid penalties in the last drive and managed to score! And then, wonder of wonders, didn’t get 3 deep pass interference calls in a row and hand the game to KC. I’m sure they tried though.

@Joe Lovell, Congrats to you and your Raiders, Joe!!!
Not such a good job on the early games for me today — sitting @ 5-4 thus far on the week

@The GTL™, Thanks, Guns. They pulled it out, but GEEZ! They played like a beat up junior college team.
Looks like the 9ers are kind of kicking ass in the first half, and the SD/Balt. game is good.
