Another GTL™ Open Post Monday — What’s On YOUR Mind? Sarah Palin Gets Over 1,000 Speaking Invitations? Conservative Columnist George F. Will Calls For Obama To “Cut And Run” In Afghanistan? Should The Massachusetts Governor Be In A Rush To Fill The Late Senator Ted Kennedy’s Senate Seat? Is Dick Cheney Trying To Save His Own BUTT By Protesting Obama Admin’s Torture Investigations? Something Else? SOUND OFF HERE

Gun-Toting-Liberal-open-thread-palin-palins-sarah-Ted-Kennedy-George-Will-Afghanistan-Military-Cut-And-RunTHE Gun Toting Liberal Reaches Out To His Fellow Commentators -Slash- Co-Bloggers And Readers To Furnish Their Opinions On Any Of The Above Or Anything Else Political One Wishes To O-Pine On…

Well, well, WELL — it looks like today is not unlike any other average Monday on the newsfront — lots going on as always after a long weekend of non-existent mainstream media (“MSM“) coverage of our leaders public SERVANTS as they dodge any accountability and scrutiny in their “smoke-filled rooms”, and why? Simply because it’s the weekend and the so-called “real journalists” are also engaging in debauchery and all that fun stuff our politicians are. No need to rock the proverbial “boat”, is there? I must admit, however — I, too took the weekend off, so as I’ve often pointed out in the past — I suppose that means I am a hypocrite as well as lazy. At least I don’t try to cover that fact with smoke and mirrors. Something to be said about that, eh?

Now, ONTO a few items being reported about today in the MSM and my short opinions as is always the case in these open, “catch-all” threads. Aftwards, as always — this roundup and the comments section become YOURS to take over, and hopefully within the confines of our fairly “Liberal” official commenting policy. That said — let’s GO (with the usual H/T to MemeOrandum)…

Hey… guess who says it’s time to “cut and run” from Afghanistan? If you found yourself immediately sorting through Democrats in your brain for the answer, think again. It’s ultra-conservative commentator George F. Will speaking out in favor of “surrender” this time (The Politico). Only, in the case of Afghanistan, it’d TRULY be a “cut and run” situation of which Mr. Will is mouthing off in favor of versus the liberals’ continued shouts for Vice President Dick “Shotgun” Cheney and his sidekick, President “Surge” W. Bush to implement the “Cut And Won” strategy in exiting Iraq. Heard of that phrase before (“cut and won”)? If so, you heard it here FIRST. Either that or you heard the many Democratic leaders “mockingbirds” who stole the term from The Gun Toting Liberal™ after he/MOI actually COINED THE PHRASE BACK IN 2006. But that’s okay — I don’t need any “kudos” for it — it was a great catchphrase and QUITE an accurate one at that. On the other hand, it’s called (in the case of Mr. Will and his likeminded, “no ideas”, “party of NO!” brethren), HYPOCRISY. They’re guilty, I’M guilty. That’s just the way the ball bounces in this game we call “poly-tix”, I suppose.

President Obama’s White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs gives the MSM press corp the smackdown for even bothering to bring up former Veep Richard “Dick” Cheney’s chastising of the president’s and his Attorney General Eric Holder’s re-opening of torture investigations involving the CIA during the Cheney-Bush years (Think Progress) on Fox News yesterday:

… I’m not entirely sure that Dick Cheney’s predictions on foreign policy have borne a whole lot of fruit over the last eight years in a way that have been either positive or, to the best of my recollection, very correct. … — Robert Gibbs

Gee — why would the former veep find this to be so disturbing? He just LOVES the Central Intelligence Agency? Or might he be afraid of being implicated in obvious WAR CRIMES? My guess is the latter applies here. Your mileage might vary, of course. And hey, that’s A-Okay around here. Sound OFF should you disagree.

Next up? My former Wasilla, Alaska classmate, Sarah The Nicest Girl In Junior High “The Barracuda” Palin is apparently getting lots of speaking engagement requests. So many, in fact, were she to just say “Yes!” to all of them, she’d be almost 300 speeches a day according The Politico. Is it just me or doesn’t it already seem as if The Barracuda gives around three hundred speeches a day as it is?

Last but not least (then it’s YOUR turn), is it too soon for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to be calling out for an emergency replacement for the dearly-departed Senator Edward M. “Ted” “Teddy” Kennedy (Boston Globe), or should he allow his carcass to cool down to room temperature first? While I understand there is a time for mourning and a time for a moment of silence or three for the Liberal Lion of The Senate, there is ZERO time for any Citizen of ANY state in this union to go without proper representation. Good luck to Governor Patrick in overturning Massachusetts State law to allow his Citizenry to be properly represented by their rightful share of two Senators — in Senator Kennedy’s vacant seat’s case — in the INTERIM, until the January, 2010 “official” Senate race for the Late Lion’s vacant seat. It’s only right and again — your mileage might vary.

Annnnnnd, now it’s YOUR turn. Back to you, my friends.

    I’m wondering how often the Dems in MA will be changing the rules. A few years ago they thought it a Bad Idea to allow a governor of MA to appoint an interim Senator, so they changed the law to prevent that an leave the seat vacant until there could be a special election.

    Now, it seems they are saying that they were wrong back then, and it is a Really Good Thing for a governor to appoint one and are scrambling to change the law to their advantage again.

    Kind of like the GOP pushing the two term limit for POTUS to prevent another FDR, then screaming about that limit when Ronnie Boy was in office.

    The GTL™ Reply:

    @Joe Lovell, Hypocrisy, Joe, hypocrisy at its FINEST. Oh well, better to learn late than never, right? ;-)

    SJ Reply:

    Apparently it was only a bad idea when they had a Republican Governor. Anyway, GTL, you are right on target. Good thing I don’t mind hypocrisy too much. If hypocrisy mattered, the only recourse would be not voting (which I think about anyway).

    What the heck is the antichrist Obama The Indonesian up to now? Trying to brainwash grammar school and pre-school children. Does this guy have no shame?

    President Obama’s Address to Students Across America September 8, 2009

    And teachers are instructed to tell their students that it is important to listen to the President, the Mayor, Senators, members of congress, the governor – but no where do they mention to the kids that it is important to listen to their parents. Parents are the most important teachers children will ever have, it is the root of sociological, societal, familial, behavioral, and emotional learning. Children learn personal responsibility at home, not from the village. As long as the parents do a good job teaching their children well, all the destructive information they are bombarded with every day will not sink in.

    And exactly why does Obama want to bypass their parents? So he can brainwash the children directly, himself, and try to poison them with his socialist ideas? This guy is getting slimier by the day.

    Given the “Open Thread” anybody want to talk about guns in general? I’ve noticed quite a number of ammo types are back on the shelves at Wally World. For a number of months I couldn’t find any .223 but now they seem to be in good supply again. Still I don’t notice any 9mm. Plenty of guns in the pawn shops though, it is the ammo that still seems to be a problem.

    Joe Lovell Reply:

    @Mike 300 spartans,
    Get a turret press, dies, components and molds. Heck, I can’t find most of what I shoot at wally world anyway. No 6.5 x 55, no 7 x 57. No 38-55. Not even any 40-60 Maynard, if you can believe that! (well, OK, that last one is a REAL stretch, and I don’t really have anything chambered in it, but it IS a cool round).

    And have you priced bolts (solid projectiles) for 3″ Ordnance Rifles and Parrott Guns recently? Only two or 3 suppliers, and $50 to $75 each. More if you want shell. Only good thing is the powder is readily available.

    Mike 300 spartans Reply:

    @Joe Lovell, Thanks Joe for the comment, I’m probably going to have to google 85 percent of the words you used, but it sounds like you really have to “shell out” the money for some of those shells. What is a 3″ ordinance rifle? Sounds like a cannon with a rifled barrel. Does the three mean the round has a three inch diameter? If so, what is the length of the barrel?

    Mike 300 spartans Reply:

    @Mike 300 spartans, Wikipedia had some cool info. Seems those 3″ cannons are over 6 feet in length and typical crew was 6 people. That would cut the cost some if every one pitched in on buying the projectiles.

    @Mike 300 spartans,
    The 6.5 x 55 is also know as the Swedish Mauser. Been around for over 100 years. Very accurate, good for deer sized game out to about 300 yards or so. The 7 x 57 is the round for the Chileno Mauser. Also know as the .275 or .276 Rigby. Another old and venerable round. One guy hunted in Africa with one. Too just about everything with it. Both are mild recoil, but have good down range power.

    The 38-55 Winchester Ballard is a target round developed in the 1880s. Once you get a load tuned to your particular rifle, you are very accurate out to about 700 yards or so. Need to use the long 300 gr. bullets for the long range.

    3 in Rifle, yes – bore of 3 inches, length of tube 69 inches. Overall weight about 1850 pounds. Range at 5 degres, about 2000 yards. In Greyling MI they hold a competition every year. 1000 yards shooting at a sheet of newspaper on a sheet of plywood. Good gunners are putting 4 out of 5, if not 9 out of 10 on the paper.

    Mike, crew was 7 plus the chief of piece. 4 right on the gun, the powder runner, and two on the ammo chest/limber. In action that did go down rapidly, since artillery was on the top of everyones “things to kill today” list. You could run a gun with only two people, but usually when it got down to that they would try to get the hell out of Dodge.

    @Joe Lovell, Crap! I forgot .303 British! Another ancient and venerable round. Started off as a black powder round in the late 1800s. Was in use up until, I believe, 1956. Roughly the same ballistics as the .308 (7.62 NATO). And, yes, that is why I reload. I can reload any of those for about 37 cents per round. If I buy them new, it is about 75 cents to a dollar a round. For kind of generic. If I go to a top hunting round, it might be as much as two bucks (if I hand load those it goes up to about 50 cents.)

    Mike 300 spartans Reply:

    @Joe Lovell, 7.62- That’s the same size as Kalashnikovs. Are you telling me that a black powder round from the 1800’s could fit the chamber of the most common rifle in the world?

    Joe Lovell Reply:

    @Mike 300 spartans,

    Nope, not at all. 7.62 is .30 cal. Teh 30-06 s 7.62 x 54 (I think it is 54) the .308 is 7.62 x 51. The round for the AK 47 and SKS is 7.62 x 39. So, you may be able to use the same bullets, but the cartridges are quite different.

    Alos, sorry if I gave the impression that the ,308 is a black powder round, It uses modern smokeless power.

    Joe Lovell Reply:

    @Joe Lovell, Alhough you COULD load with BP. But any gas operated system would quickly foul to the point of being almost inoperable. I suppose you could cycle the action manually.

    @The GTL™, But that can be so random. Plus, there is something satisfying about hearing that boom, and seeing your target drop. You just don’t get that with those germy things. Give me huge clouds of white smoke and “the thunder of the guns.”

    Well in Poor ole Wesley Cheeks defence. He did finally come to the realization that it was probably a good idea to walk off and make himself scarce. The entire movement cannot hinge on one poor ole policeman saying and doing some really bizarre things.

    Additionally I believe that we are in need of health care reform in this country. The problem with health care reform is this.

    1. Spending lots and lots of money will not fix the problem.
    2. Price controls will not fix the problem. Medicare is going bankrupt. They keep squeezing the prices they pay and it doesnt do any good.
    3. If you add money to the system you just increase demand because now you got 45 million more people WANTING health care then before with the same amount of doctors.
    4. More patients, same amount of doctors means HIGHER PRICES.

    So as you can see just saying hey….were gonna give everyone health care is in fact going to result in rationing because now we have everyone running to the SAME AMOUNT OF DOCTORS.

    Solution is to bring more doctors and nurses into the system. To relax some restrictions on PA’s and Nursing assistants.

    We will not fix health care by throwing money at the system. If you want to fix health care then throw money at doctors, nurses and health care professionals. Make it EASY to become a Doctor or Nurse… By easy I mean financially….not make the course easier.

    Get more doctors and nurses into the system.

    Folks basic economics 101. If you add 45 million more patients to the doctors rolls……the costs are going to escalate..not drop. If you price control…….then you have rationing and government intervention in health care.

    That is the debate and that is what Every American that is out yelling about this understands. We may not be brilliant but we do understand the basics of economics and what Obama and the democrats are selling stinks right now.

    So now, not only is Obama planning on beginning the Indoctrination of children under the age of 10 or 11, as I mentioned above, he and his cronies have decided to step up their collection of personal information on Americans who belong to social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Link here

    Indoctrinating the youth, collecting personal information on citizens – this is beginning to look like pre-holocaust Germany.
