Psst — How About Just A Little Moment Of SILENCE In The Passing Of Senator Edward M. “Ted” -Slash- “Teddy” Kennedy?

Senator Kennedy — Rest In Peace. Kennedy Family — May God Be With You During This Moment Of Sadness.

<center><strong>The Lion Of The Senate Has Passed</strong></senate>

The Lion Of The Senate Has Passed

It didn’t take long for the right-wingers on Capitol Hill and in the ‘Spheres, the A.M. talk radio airwaves and the ‘Nets jump all over their former (now departedNew York Times) distinguished political oponent, Senator Ted Kennedy, a.k.a., “The Lion Of The Senate”, like vultures circling around the carcass of a traitor. C’mon, jerks — at LEAST find it in your hearts to allow Teddy Kennedy’s corpse to reach room temperature before you start frothing at your mouths, bringing up Chappaquiddick and/or anything else “questionable” about The Lion of The Senate’s lifelong quest to both serve the people while not breaking a sweat over the handle of a blue collar shovel. When Moral Majority Leader Jerry Falwell gave up the ghost, for the MOST PARTwe on the “left” waited a week or three before we started chipping away at the man’s legacy. Same with President Ronald Reagan. All we ask is the same respect if that’s not too much to ask for, that is.

Some disgusting reactions by some “right-leaning” folks who cannot HELP but to gloat over the departed Senator from Massachusetts (H/T goes to MemeOrandum) despite the pain his family and friends must be feeling at this very time AND despite the fact our Flag is flying at half-mast once again:

Andrew Brietbard (H/T to Think Progress):

“Rest in Chappaquiddick”

Vietnam Draft-Dodger And Far Right Talk Radio Shock Jock Rush Limbaugh Takes The Moral High Ground Low Ground (The Politico):

“Rush Limbaugh, on his radio show, said he was “a little uncomfortable” attacking Kennedy’s politics but knocked the Clintons for being slow to offer a statement on the senator’s death. Limbaugh also reminded listeners that about a year ago, he “predicted [Democrats] would use his eventual death as the sympathy trigger to get health care passed.”

Nick Gillespie Of Reason Magazine Shows Even Less Class:

“The legislation for which he will be remembered is precisely the sort of top-down, centralized legislation that needs to be jettisoned in the 21st century. Like Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.V.) and the recently deposed Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), Kennedy was in fact a man out of time, a bridge back to the past rather than a guide to the future. His mind-set was very much of a piece with a best-and-the-brightest, centralized mentality that has never served America well over the long haul.”

And now that I’ve taken my well-deserved “potshots”, it’s only fair for me to give accolades to some other Right-Wing pundits who’ve demonstrated the class expected in the wake of the death of such an extraordinary Patriot…

Michelle Malkin

OOPS. I guess that was the only one. MY bad.

R.I.P., Senator Kennedy.

Let us not forget the absolute hatred that was vented over Tony Snowe.

    But having said that……

America is a better place for having had Kennedy and the entire Kennedy family in service to the nation for nearly a century.

My condolences to the Kennedy family. He was an American Icon and he will be missed. Right or wrong he championed his causes and his lifes work made America a better place. We as a nation are just a bit stronger for his service and we are now a bit diminished by his passing.

Life goes on but for the moment….Salute to Ted Kennedy….You sir were an American Patriot.

I’m disgusted. Politics is one thing but this is just shameless. When Reagan passed I was sympathetic to his wife and family for their loss, same goes for Ford and Nixon. Their is no political gain or purpose served other than pure hate and personal gain if you have to stoop so low as to trample on a dead mans corpse. Especially, when they have served their nation with pride for so many years.

    Rest in peace Teddy.

To the Left: Stop bickering and take time to mourn a liberal hero.

To the Right: Stop bickering and take time to mourn a worthy adversary.

Both sides are “using” Senator Kennedy’s tragic death to push their own agendas.

Whether you agree with his politics or not, whether you like the man or not, he was loved by many. He endured a great deal of personal tragedy in his own life, and was a dedicated senator who put his stamp on American politics for decades.

    R.I.P. Senator Kennedy.

The sky just fell, FandB, because I agree with you. If you all can read the Cal Thomas column that was published today. Can’t give you a link as I read it in my local newspaper but here is one of the things he said, “Over the years, I came to see Kennedy not as a symbol, but as a fellow human being who did not get up each morning seeking ways to harm the country”.

I read Thomas regularly because he is one of the few columnists left who can write about his side without always demonizing the other side. He and Kennedy ended up being friends.

    bad dog Reply:

@Gaia’s Child, I’m glad you think that was a fitting eulogy from an opponent, but I found it anything but. If I ever achieve enough prominence to warrant something similar from Thomas, do me a favor: Ask him not to write anything.

    Gaia's Child Reply:

@bad dog, When I read your comment, I thought, okay, my mornings are bad, maybe I should read it now in the evening. So I just reread it. After rereading it I decided that I wouldn’t mind having an eulogy like the one that Thomas wrote for Kennedy.

Thomas did not come to praise Kennedy but to talk of him as a man and as a friend.

But out of curiosity what offended you about Thomas’s column? Not snark, I’m really curious. I guess since I don’t expect Thomas to write like Pitt or like Ivins did, when he writes a rational column I’m impressed.

    bad dog Reply:

@Gaia’s Child, It was a backhanded compliment in my opinion. Kennedy wasn’t somebody who wakes up each morning thinking of ways to harm the country, but one might think that of him, and of course one should think that of everybody else on Kennedy’s team. It’d be like me saying, “One thing I can say about Gaia’s Child, she was actually not a traitor who despised the military.” Uh, no thanks. It’s like Joe’s eulogy where he praised none, but prayed lavishly for forgiveness of a sinful man steeped in sin. No thanks to that either. Either say something respectful–not nice, but respectful–or denounce him and dance on his grave–or say nothing. But to pretend you were friends, and then backhand him on his death? It’s crap, plain and simple.

    bad dog Reply:

@Gaia’s Child, To be clear, by the way, I am responding to the specific comment you quoted. I didn’t read the entire column. Maybe the rest of it was respectful, who knows. I don’t read Cal Thomas.

    Gaia's Child Reply:

    @bad dog, I rather thought that you hadn’t. Taking the quote within the context of the entire column, Thomas is trying to explain how he and Kennedy’s relationship changed over time and finally turned into friendship. He ended the eulogy with this quote from the play “King Arthur”;
    “Don’t let it be forgot,
“That once there was a spot
    “For one brief shining moment
    “That was known as Camelot.”

    bad dog Reply:

@Gaia’s Child, Let’s just say the first quote you selected did not impress me.

Ditto the Cal Thomas article. He’s one of my favorite columnists.

His disagreements politically with Kennedy were sharp, but for the most part, he (and Kennedy) maintained a level of civility when disagreeing. Much of the blogosphere could learn from columns like that, IMHO.

    Steve

    bad dog Reply:

@SJ, You’re right about the blogosphere. Here are some comments from Sarah Palin’s Facebook page about Kennedy’s death:

“This country is now much better off, one less socialist, anti freedom senator.”

“Now if we could just talk God into taking Spector, Reid and Pelosi, America would be Eutopia!”

    “good riddens”

“I hope God makes him babysit all the aborted children for eternity.”

“Ted Kennedy dying has made my day….”

“Good ridencance to a sorry person.”

“It’s about time, we can only hope Pelosi and Ried will be joining him very soon. All 3 of them should be buried in Moscow.”

I don’t know what to get them for Christmas this year. A high school education or a psychiatrist.

    Fandb Reply:

@bad dog, That was a very misleading post. Sarah Palin did not write any of those comments, as could be inferred from that post. If those comments were ever actually on her page, which I doubt, they would have been written by visitors and not controlled by Mrs. Palin.

Sarah Palin’s Facebook comment is as follows:

“I would like to extend our sympathies to the Kennedy family as we hear word about the passing of Senator Ted Kennedy. He believed in our country and fought passionately for his convictions.

    -Sarah Palin and family”

    Nice try though.

    bad dog Reply:

@Fandb, You are correct and I stand corrected, although I thought my closing remark made it clear I was talking about her visitors/followers, not her.

For the record: Sarah Palin, who is a nut, was not as cruel and vindictive about Kennedy’s death as her some of her followers.

As you point out, she did not write those comments personally. But as Bill O’Liar holds sites like the Daily Kos and groups like MoveOn.org responsible for the actions of some of their visitors/followers, Palin must now take responsibility for the comments of her visitors/followers.

Therefore, by right winger logic, Palin is just as responsible for those comments as if she wrote them herself.

Therefore, I will correct my previous post. I won’t say these are comments left on her Facebook page. I will say that these are comments that she endorses:

“This country is now much better off, one less socialist, anti freedom senator.”

“Now if we could just talk God into taking Spector, Reid and Pelosi, America would be Eutopia!”

    “good riddens”

“I hope God makes him babysit all the aborted children for eternity.”

“Ted Kennedy dying has made my day….”

“Good ridencance to a sorry person.”

“It’s about time, we can only hope Pelosi and Ried will be joining him very soon. All 3 of them should be buried in Moscow.”

I don’t know what to get her/them for Christmas this year. A high school education or a psychiatrist.

P.S. Visit her FB page yourself if you don’t believe me. (The comments weren’t spelled out all in caps, though, so I understand why you’re skeptical.) FandB, you may not realize this, but you are a Wil-E-Coyote, Super Genius among right wingers, most of whom are vicious, complete dingbats.

    Fandb Reply:

@bad dog, I did visit her page, that’s where I got the quotation.

So, while I was there, I joined as one of her supporters. :-) She has about 850,000 soo far. The comments regarding Senator Kennedy number nearly 2,800, so it would be understandable if she did not monitor and edit every single one.

She seems to be getting several thousand comments a day on her wall, too much for even a staff the size of Michelle Obama’s to keep up with.

    bad dog Reply:

@Fandb, “The comments regarding Senator Kennedy number nearly 2,800, so it would be understandable if she did not monitor and edit every single one.”

No, it is NOT understandable. Period. End of story.

Bill O’Reilly has held Moveon.org and Daily Kos responsible for every single comment on their websites. Any time somebody says something nasty, O’Liar is there to portray these organizations as a mirror reflection of the nasty comment.

By this logic, Sarah Palin is responsible for every word on her page written by her supporters.

The right wing can’t have it both ways, even though they whine and throw tantrums and demand this consideration with all the energy of a three-year-old child.

Therefore, Sarah Palin directly endorses these statements as if she wrote them herself:

“This country is now much better off, one less socialist, anti freedom senator.”

“Now if we could just talk God into taking Spector, Reid and Pelosi, America would be Eutopia!”

    “good riddens”

“I hope God makes him babysit all the aborted children for eternity.”

“Ted Kennedy dying has made my day….”

“Good ridencance to a sorry person.”

“It’s about time, we can only hope Pelosi and Ried will be joining him very soon. All 3 of them should be buried in Moscow.”

Glad you found some kindred spirits on her FB page, though. Sarah Palin is the nuttiest of the nuts. You’re welcome to her!

More from the gutter. Huckabee says Kennedy would have been urged to die sooner under Obamacare.

Which makes this fake “man of God” not only a liar, as we already knew, but a liar without any class as well.

And here’s a bonus lie from the RNC, which sent out a press release suggesting that healthcare would be denied Republicans:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/28/gop-under-fire-for-hintin_n_271527.html

Hey, RNC, it’s YOUR side that demanded that free shock treatments and butt plugs be taken out of the bill. Don’t blame us for that.

    bad dog Reply:

@bad dog, Great post, BD! But you forgot the link to Huckabee being a liar politicizing Kennedy’s death in the same tasteless way Republicans said Gold Star Mothers of dead servicemen should shut up because their dead kids would have wanted it that way:

@bad dog, It doesn’t do any good to get all bent out of shape demanding that someone you have no control over should behave or not behave a certain way. If you want to comment on someone else’s lack of ‘class’, better make sure you’re demonstrating class yourself. Otherwise it’s just another case of the pot calling the kettle black. I mean, come on, complaining about someone else throwing tantrums while you’re throwing a tantrum yourself is sort of hypocritical, don’t you think?

BD: “No, it is NOT understandable. Period. End of story.” — That may be your opinion, but, hey, that’s not your call.

@Fandb, It’s funny, FandB, whenever you’re wrong, and you know you’re wrong, you try to make the issue about me and my feelings. This is because you’re an ideologue who can never admit it when his team screws up, and always has to find some rationalization or counterattack to avoid having to explain why Mike Huckabee is not only a liar, but a jerk.
I’ll have to pass this time. But in the future, if you ever want to “go there,” there being psychoanalyzing each other, I’d be happy to do so with you. I could write pages and pages on what is obvious to me what goes on in that brain of yours. Anytime.
In the meantime, I’ll ignore your patronizing advice in your patronizing post that was basically a waste of your time and mine. I’ll simply repeat what I wrote:
