Swine Flu Virus II: Vice President Joe Biden Freaks People Out Then Recants

Mr. Biden Goes Onto Provide We Bloggers Another Lovable Gaffe

Joe Biden freaks out over swine flu pandemic says stay off of subways and planes then apologizes later...I’ve said it back in August of last year and I’ll say it again: I absolutely ADORE Vice President Joseph Biden and his tendency to open his mouth wide and say something entertaining without thinking first. Of course he made an irresponsible statement today when he told the mainstream media he would recommend American Citizens should refrain from utilizing any confined modes of vertical, horizontal and/or transcendental transportation including but not limited to subways, airplanes, limousines, SUV’s, trains, passenger vans, taxi cabs, luxury sedans, elevators, time machines, space shuttles, boats or even circus rides including but not limited to roller coasters, flight simulators, or any other ride which incarcerates one with a stranger (The Politico). Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit to make my point here, but then again, I’m biased and that’s what I do.

Obviously, you’d have THOUGHT that was what the Veep had said judging by the “oh-so-horrified” Righties and even President Obama’s White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs jumped into the fray by apologizing to the American People on behalf of President Obama, his Vice President, and the entire administration for Mr. Biden’s inability to contain himself (pun intended). Soon enough thereafter, Vice President Biden’s office joins into the fray by saying he meant to only be issuing that advice to people who were already carrying the swine flu “were already sick” and it was only a slip of the tongue. Sorry, Mr. Biden — I don’t buy it for one moment. You said what you said; it was a thing of “beauty” — the latest “gaffe” to light up the Blogospheres to give we pajama-wearing bottom-feeding bloggers another crumb enabling us to:

A) Act “horrified and indignant” and take the “moral high road” —

B) Laugh a huge belly laugh and say to ourselves, “There goes ole’ lovable Joe again!” (that’s MOI) –

The Veep’s official White House Spokesperson on the matter (Elizabeth Alexander):

“On the Today Show this morning, the vice president was asked what he would tell a family member who was considering air travel to Mexico this week. The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways. This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week. As the president said just last night, every American should take the same steps you would take to prevent any other flu: Keep your hands washed; cover your mouth when you cough; stay home from work if you’re sick and keep your children home from school if they’re sick.”…

Uh-HUH… c’mon — say it isn’t so, Joe. Or, rather, say it IS. Fact is, your original statement amounted to at least as much common sense as the overblown, MSM overreaction to what amounts to “just another flu bug”.

Oh, and by the way, I don’t buy the “oh so horrified and offended” response from the Right. Just sayin’.

Hell, he is the Costello to Dear Leaders Abbot. The only reason he is on the team is to make Dear Leader look good.

    • The GTL™

I mean this sincerely — I friggin’ ADORE our VEEP! ;-)

    • vegofish

If i did your job I would dig him too.

      V. President Biden is an anti-gun buffoon. I completely agree with the comment I read yesterday:

We were told that if we voted for McCain we would have a V. President that was an idiot. Quite prophetic.

    • Girardia

It seems to be the policy for both the right and the left to put a VP in place that neither friend nor foe would want in the Presidency. President George H. W. Bush-well we fuc4ed that one up. President Quayle-no thanks. President Gore-I wasn’t enthusiastic, but having the Supreme Court intervene in unprecedented fashion to make the first Presidential appointment, against the people’s wishes, well, we all see how well that worked out. President Cheney-even the GOP saw what a terrible idea that would have been. President Palin-that horrific scenario may have cost McShame his last shot at Presidency. President Biden-Let’s just hope nothing happens that brings that situation upon us.

    • Joe Lovell

OK, what the hell is it about Palin that gripes the left so much? She runs a state. She has a family that she cares for. She has at least as much smarts as Dear Leader or Biden. She doesn’t do all that great in front of a camera. That is what it boils down to – her on camera presence.

We were told endlessly after her nomination that she had no executive experience, even though she runs a state, and runs it reasonably well. At the same time we were told that a guy who ordered pens, stationary, and yard signs as a “community organizer” (block commisar?)had LOTS of experience (while being told that Biden was there to back him up whith is years of experience in the greatest master debating society in history, because Barry had no executive experience to speak of).

Is it because sucessful women in politics can only be squint eyed, shrill harridans who make G. Steinem look like June Cleaver and Stalin look like a follower of our Robber Barons of the 1800s?

And don’t give me that crap from the SNL farce (in the true sense of the word – a dramatic/comedic device) that Dear Leaders sycophants took as real. We can come up with stupid things Dear Leader has said on open mic that equal anything Palin said (I wonder if Dear Leader has gotten to the 58th, 59,th & 60th states yet).

    • Chuck

      Joe

You really shouldn’t repress so much. Let your true feelings out. ;-)

      G

Well..all I can say is I never voted for George Bush..but I did vote for Dick Cheney twice. :-)

Chuck wrote: “You really shouldn’t repress so much. Let your true feelings out. ”

I’ll try, but you know how it is – taught as a child to keep those feelings in check, never express what I really thing.

It is one single most important reason Joe, she is an openly pro-life female. That is completely intolerable to the left, particularly with the so called “feminist” movement. These folks equate a personal choice of life over murder as a threat to their freedom. They think if you choose life you are somehow foisting your morality on them. Sounds silly, I know, considering you can easily get an abortion in this country anytime you wish. Guilty conscious syndrome I guess. The lesser understood reason she is vilified so frequently in the left media is her capability. People inside understand how capable she is. I will grant that she was somewhat unprepared for the national stage, but not from a lack of intelligence, more a lack of preparedness. She really had no time to prepare for her first foray into national politics. People on the inside understand her abilities though. They understand that, if she chooses to, she can return in two years or four years, with her positions sharp and a large following. The left understands the danger in a erudite, prepared Sarah Palin. So they attack what they fear, it is what the left does.

    • Girardia

      You guys are HILARIOUS!

    • Joe Lovell

      “You guys are HILARIOUS!”

Which doesn’t answer my question, does it? Why the viceral hatered of her? Is it because she doesn’t fit the sterotype of what a successful woman should be? Or her conservative values? What?

    • Girardia

Joe-I can’t believe you like her. You’re kidding, right? Tell me you’re kidding, because she is one of the most vile and pathetic creatures to come across the political spectrum in quite some time. Do you really want a list of great reasons why we can’t stand this worthless bitc4?

    • vegofish

Just can’t help it, can you Girardia? have to take it to the gutter. Congratulations on your continued representation of the shallow end of thought and genealogy. Post your list of lies, does it really matter,it is all rehashed disproved ignorant BS that has been wore out by your re- educators at MSNBC

Yes, I *do* want a list. And not just the SNL crapola. Actual honest to god reasons. As I said, she is doing a reasonable job of running a state, managed to go againt the good ol’ boy network, is at least as capable as Dear Leader and good ol’ Joe.

So really, the only thing I see is that she doesn’t fit the lockstep stereotype of what the leftists think a woman should be. OK, so she isn’t a pinched face, shrill, hag who thinks every woman should have at least one abortion. And she likes firearms. And can use them.

Are you really that closed minded that if a woman charts her own path rather than fitting into the narrow little image of what the left says she should be that you reject her?

    • Girardia

      OK-easy enough…

She was for the bridge before she was against it. She’s been an earmark queen since she was mayor of Wasilla but claims to be some kind of reformer. She supported Ted Stevens after he had been convicted for numerous felonies. She also had a lot of work done on her house by the same contractor Ted got into trouble with. There was the whole troopergate thing, that a panel she appointed absolved her of. Her family situation is dubious at best. She’s out there preaching that bogus abstinence only crap while her underage daughter is fathering a child out of wedlock. She forced the boy who knocked her daughter up to pretend everything was OK in their relationship and they were getting married. She exploited a fantasy image of her fuc4ed up family throughout her failed campaign. She lied about her son’s deployment date so it looked like he was leaving on 9/11 (a date Repuglicans have been shamelessly exploiting to the best of their ability since 9/12). She even revealed her son’s assigned location in a breach of security that endangered the lives of everyone in his unit. I believe her son joined the military in lieu of a jail sentence for some drugged up vandalism. Her husband has been, until very recently, in some sort of ultra right wing group advocating secession from the United States, and she has spoken before that group recently. She campaigned by exploiting her Downs Syndrome baby, claiming other such parents had an ally, but when it came time to fund the program she was against it. Her performance in the debates was absolutely terrible. She couldn’t even describe what the Veep’s job was, and actually said she’d be in there running the senate. She said she has foreign policy experience because she can see Russia from her porch. Then she babbled something about Putin rearing his head and flying over to Alaska. WTF. When they asked her what she reads she said everything, but then could not come up with one single publication. She blames her repeated failures in front of a camera on the so called liberal media, but the media is all owned by giant right wing corporations and only a fool would think that it leans to the left. She mocked Obama for having been a community organizer when, at the same period of her life she was busy in beauty contests. Most community organizers are church people deeply committed to helping others and she managed to crap all over them. She also disparaged Obama for having the audacity to suggest that we should read the rights to our illegal detainees. That shows about how much regard she has for human rights, common decency, and domestic and international law. Then she went on and on with those ridiculous, hateful, racist, dangerous lies that Obama was a terrorist. That was some serious bulls4it. Just the fact that she still supports the war in Iraq as having been anything but a massive ripoff and complete failure proves she’s extremely stupid. She’s a fairly attractive Bush clone, but why emulate the worst leader this nation has ever been forced to endure. She is on video expressing the idea that God is on our side in this war. Then she’s on video getting an exorcism by a witch doctor that has run witch hunts in Africa that have resulted in the unfortunate stoning of some women. She spouts the right wing intelligent design nonsense then advocates social darwinist capitalist ideology, just another of the 1000 most common right wing hypocisies. She’s one of those hateful bigots that would deny the right to marriage to someone simply because they were born homosexual. Disgusting. We cannot vote away our Constitutional rights. Her idea of an energy policy is drill baby drill, and she would take polar bears and other dying animals off the endangered species list if they get in the way of drilling. She advocates the hunting of struggling wolves from helicopters. She would, of course, fight Roe V. Wade, just one more reason she is unfit to represent the majority of Americans that agree with that decision. She became a loose cannonball renegade candidate for the final month of the campaign, and although I was plenty glad to see this additional facet of the Republican collapse, it indicated a ruthlessly disloyal mentality that we do not need in office anywhere. Oh yeah. How about that shopping spree during this period. Will she ever give that stuff back. Another thing that proves she’s a nut job is that she supported Buchanan. I’ll come full circle here by pointing out that she was against stimulus before she was for it, once she realized her constituency was mostly for it. Otherwise she would be busy looking like she was cutting spending during a Republican caused economic collapse that, as everyone with an education in economics knows, needs massive government spending to mitigate the disaster.

She sucks. She just really, really sucks.

Of course, I saw this stuff on MSNBC. I’m sure you guys think you get a fair and balanced report on FIXED NOISE. Hannity will set things straight.

    • Joe Lovell

Wow, you cribbed that from the DNC talking points, didn’t you?

OK, looks like it mostly boils down to “She is a politican.” And “I don’t like her stance on (issue).” Except for the Stevens thing, you know, bring charges, falsely convict, then after the election say “OOPS! We made a mistake, it was all circumstancial or lies.” Damn near everything you mentioned was spun and exaggerated by the MSM, including Fox.

In other words, she doesn’t fit what people like Pelosi say a woman politician should be. Kind of strange, whenever a woman or minority conservative gets into a postition of power, or nominated for one, the left screams that they aren’t woman enough, or black enough, or mexican enough. Or something enough. Judging by externals (color of the skin) rather then the content of the character. Gee…that sounds familiar.

So, when do you think Dear Leader will get to teh 58th, 59th, & 60th states? And what “national security” problems is our military incapable of dealing with? Where is his constitutional authority for creating a “civilian national security force just as strong, just as powerful, just as well funded” as the combined military? Where is he getting the money for this? How will it be armed? Will it take an oath to support the Constitution? Or will it be loyal only to Dear Leader? When will he be able to eat his waffle?

    • Doomed

Lord help us should Biden ever need to be the POTUS.

Everyone talked about Palin not being ready. This guy would have the entire world rolling in the isles laughing at us for having a Gerald Ford Mouth on a nitwit body.

Biden needs to consider retiring. I think hes been in power too long. He simply speaks, says what he wants and people are supposed to know what the hell hes talking about.

Ive had bosses like that. They usually bullied their way to the top. Behind that nice demeanor of a 500 year senator is the bully pulpit. He uses it. Unfortunately half the time hes not got a clue what the heck hes saying.

But then again this is just another means to scare us with a “CRISIS” so they can pat themselves on the back and look good.

stand by…….next month boweevils are going to strike. Perhaps this is the 7 plagues the bible talked about.

    • vegofish

Wow giardia I have hardly ever seen anyone write so much and say so little,
your ridiculous msnbc talking points might be interesting to left wing kooks but the closest you came to making any statement that was any where close to realistic or true was maybe a quarter truth, certainly not even half. Like Joe said, basically you described a politician, but nothing you said warrants the personal hatred that you and your kind spew, I agree that not all of her decisions are acceptable, I too was disappointed when she backtracked on the folks in Ketchikan and the bridge to their Airport that they had very unfairly had politicized into the Bridge to no where.
The Ketchikan Airport gets a hell of a lot more passengers and frieght than your hero John Murtha and his cash cow personal airport.
Most of what you have said is left speculation with no evidence to back up what you say and much is just flat ridiculous, your comments about palins children are indescribably ridiculous and just invented hate stories straight from MSNBC, Why should her position on teenage abstinence change because her daughter made a mistake? Hypocritical would be for her to stop teaching that abstinence is the safest method of birth control. It is certainly what I told my Daughters I expected from them.
Actually she said Obama “pals around with terrorists” which was an accurate statement at the time, and has actually become somewhat prophetic, considering dear leaders execution of foreign policy. Execution being a multi descriptive word in that sentence. She opposes Gay marriage, yes, just as most of the country does, but supports civil unions. As far as your bassackwards economics goes massive gov’t spending is exactly the problem. what sensible economic model would stae
      A. you are massively in debt
      B. you have no savings
      C. you have a fixed income
      Solution: Increase debt 1000 fold.
Ya that should work. They only people that believe that are those that dear leader and his cabal has thoroughly “re-educated”.
Your post has so many false statements, exaggerations and strawmen it is nearly unreadable. I live where she governs and am far from total agreement with her, but she does not warrant the twisted viciousness that you and the other useful idiots spew. Lay off the hate for a while, you might wake up happy one morning.

    • vegofish

I wish I had more time, I am just stunned really at the propoganda you buy into giardia, I thought you were capable of more independent thought than
that. I will just have to come back later. your statements are so misguided I can’t let an accurate rebuttal slide here on this.

    • Girardia

Joe-Wrote it off the top of my head, with a little time to organize it. I can add things spontaeosly like the sheer stupidity of her turkey scene and so on. I guess you are correct in that my biggest problem with her is her right wing views. Except for gun rights conservatives have been on the wrong side of every issue for a long, long time. It takes some twisted pretzel logic to still try to defend conservative ideology in the face of mounting evidence that it is a complete and total; failure, economically, socially, and so on.

I guess I don’t like politicians all that much, but as far as I can tell she’s a terrible one. I wouldn’t mind seeing the GOP flounder in 2010, but by 2012 I would hope that it is organized again because, as the old saying goes, this eagle does need two wings to fly.

As far as Stevens goes, the guy has been a complete piece of crap his entire career, he was guilty as sin, even the previous administration finally had to prosecute him, and no surprise, just like everything else they touched, they fuc4ed it up big time.

Not sure what you are talking about in your second paragraph there. There is absolutely no one claiming anything like what you are saying there over on this side of the fence. That is either contrived or else it’s a hallucination.

I believe the number was 58 total, and the story I heard was that he had 58 stops. An easy slip. It’s the best you guys have so go for it. As for the rest of that paragraph, I’m with you. I’m not some blind follower of the new Messiah or something. These guys, and gals, are politicians, and as I said earlier, I’m not real fond of any of them.

Actually, going back to your second sentence in your final paragraph, the military is incapable of handling any national security issue that is better handled by the state department, negotiation, diplomacy, charity, or the sheer force of capitalism. The military is one of many powerful tools in our kit, but in many cases it is like using a jack-hammer when a drill press, or arc welder is what’s really needed.

Doomed-THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

Veg-You clearly do not live in reality. OK, Doomed is not living in reality, maybe you have one foot firmly on the ground. I’m sure some of what I wrote is probably crap, but most of it is on video, and no amount of editing could have made good videos look so bad. By the way, your entry was far less succinct and focused than mine. You sir are the one that is full of hot air. No true conservative is going to let any trivial things like a preponderance of evidence, or well reasoned arguments, or logical conclusions, or facts, knowledge, information, or intelligence sway their opinions. They are resolute. No matter what happens on Tuesday, they will still believe on Wednesday exactly what and how they did on Monday. Gotta respect that strength.

I get a kick when GOPers think that by pointing out that the Dems have a bunch of s4itheads in the party thaey are proving something. No s4it! They are politicians. Duh.

Maybe the bridge was a valid project. Her flip-flopping and subsequent flagrant lying about it was my issue, again, clearly visible and audible on video.

Of course abstinence is safest and most effective but it is not the only method. A lack of knowledge and information is never the best position from which to deal with any situation, ever, but this seems quite difficult for conservatives to understand. Their policy seems to be that ignorance is bliss. An example of how this issue plays out in society, and in universities in particular. The righties all think that they are indoctrinating students into socialist ideologies but the simple fact of the matter is that the more knowledge and information an individual possesses, and the better his or her deductive and analytical skills, the more likely he or she is to be a liberal. Or, for GOP folks, liberal smart, conservative stupid.

There was nothing accurate whatsoever about the Obama pals around with terrorists and you damn well know it. Talk about hatred. Onama’s done more good for our foreign policy in a hundred days than Bush did in two full terms and only the truly clueless fail to recognize that. He was elected in a landslide to fix the screwups up the previous administration and because that is exactly what he is doing he is still very popular.

America is like a big machine; I will u8se a car as an analogy. When that stupid clown Reagan was president he said we’ll give tax cuts to the rich and we’ll all be better off. That was like saying we’ll only change the oil every 30,000 miles so I can have more cheeseburgers. The passengers didn’t get any cheese burgers and now the car is in the ditch, the fan belt is busted, it’s only got one headlight, and the conservatives are suggesting we but the driver a cheeseburger.

I need to stop wasting my time explaining how things are here in reality to those of you suffering from partial or complete disconnect. This has been for the benefit of myself, primarily, because writing is a catharsis, and for other objective readers. I’m sure you have not been swayed one bit.

You are both brilliant bloggers with differing points of view and as heated as we all feel about our politics and ideologies, we don’t need to become the next Daily Kos either :-)

Please — keep up the great commentary — anything either one of you (or anybody else who posts here regularly) blog about in the comments is worthy reading and I’d sure like to keep it that way and I beg you both for your help :-)

Please — CHILL!!! We are ALL just patriots here trying to be patriotic ;-)

    • Fandb

Dang, looks like I missed a good fistfight!

Liberals can whine all they want about Reagan. The fact is his policies were wildly successful (even Bill Clinton recognized that) and the country rode the wave of his success for over twenty years. Even as bad as things are today they are nowhere near as bad as they were under Carter, regardless of what the lying, liberal, left wing media would try to make you believe.

As I predicted a couple of months ago, we’re coming out of the recession now – nowhere near as deep or broad as the lying, left wing, liberal media said it would be. Even the current Socialists who have taken Washington by lying and cheating and stealing have had to admit recently that economic conditions are improving. This in spite of the fact that they wanted to use the recession as long as possible to scare people silly in order to push their Socialist agenda down the throats of We The People of the (NON-SOCIALIST) United Sates of America.

An example of what Obama’s foreign policy has done for us: Violence in Iraq has reached its highest level of the last seven months. Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Iraqi militants, Iranian insurgents, etc., all realize that the adults have been voted out in America and the children are playing government again. If the dem’s screw up and lose Iraq to Iran, the middle east is in serious, serious trouble. Right now, it looks like it has turned that way. Obama had better stop looking at himself in the friggin’ mirror and start looking out the window at all the people who accomplished some important things over the last seven or eight years before its too late.

    • Doomed

From a big fan of Reagan I have to say that his policies were popular and they were successful because he brought taxes down from Exorbitant levels to more reasonable levels.

Today the GOP has failed to make this distinction. They keep saying cut them more. Cut them more. Yet we have reached the point where cutting them much more will and is resulting in states coming close to bankruptcy.

Cutting taxes under Regan worked. Bankrutping the USSR with deficits to build a huge military and Star Wars worked. That was 20-30 years ago. It is now a different time with differing needs and cutting already low taxes is not going to solve our problems unless we want to continue to run 250-400 billion deficits year after year.

However raising taxes on the top 5 percent even by a lot is not going to pay for Obama’s initiatives either. Cap and trade will spur massive inflation.

The Democrats have no answers. They have nice ideas to spend money but they have no ideas where to get the money from to pay for them.

You do not cut the taxes on 95 percent of Americans then spend 2 more trillion that we do not have and pretend that fixes anything.

Somewhere in the next few years when America is very similar to the USSR we will all wake up and realize that even a nation has to pay its bills.

The democrats have no solutions. They have ideas that never worked in the past and will not work in the future. The GOP has ideas that worked in the past but are no longer able to work in the future.

Time for our government to come up with some new ideas.

Want to really know what kind of Tax we need to pay for Obama’s ideals?

a 12 percent sales tax on everything sold in America would do the trick. After raising the taxes on the rich to whatever levels anyone wants.

12 percent sales tax. Can you imagine. That would create unemployment of 15 percent. While Cap and trade would create Inflation.

No one wants to pay for any damn thing. They just all want to spend and spend and spend.

    • Fandb

Doomed, I agree with some but not all of your comments. I’d love to take the time sometime to parse through all of the details of taxes and their effects, but not today.

The main thing though is the comment “Time for our government to come up with some new ideas.” – I think this just indicates the depth to which Americans, even conservatives, have come to rely on government as the problem solvers. A role that they do not play well. As you indicated, their only idea is to try to spend their way out of everything.

It might be more appropriate to say that it is time for us (We The People) to Find someone with New Ideas and Put Them in Government.

      Keep up the Good Fight!

My, my. I thought this thread had something to do with Biden “[freaking] people out.” Whatever.

Anyway, it’s a shame that anyone was freaked out by the very sound advice he gave his family. Now, if he only could fire whomever it is who knows better what he said….
