Loading ...Nancy Pelosi Gives A Firm “NO” To Renewal Of Assault Weapons Ban While Barack Obama Puts A Stop To Further Federal Raids On State-Approved Medical Marijuana Clinics
The funniest part about Nancy Pelosi’s contribution to this column is the fact that just yesterday, a good friend of mine from the right, knowing how strongly I feel about our 2nd Amendment Civil Liberty to Keep And Bear Arms (“RTKBA”) sat down next to me at my favorite eatery with a chip on his shoulder. Now, I’m going to paraphrase the short conversation for you (I’m going to call my friend “Rob” since his real name is “Robbie” to help preserve his anonymity):
ROB: “Bro, did you hear about that new HR resolution to require annual psychological testing and federal registration of all firearms, subject to unannounced inspections….”
MOI (and yep — part French and proud): “Dood — hold up. Don’t get your panties in a wad — it’ll never happen.”
ROB: “Whaddaya mean it isn’t going to happen? The damned Democrats are in control of the House, the Senate and the Presidency!!!”
MOI: “It will get laughed off of the House floor and even if it didn’t, some of the most powerful Democratic Senators and Democratic Party leaders have some of the highest NRA ratings on Capitol Hill.”
ROB: “Really? Like who?”
MOI: “Ever hear of Virginia Senator James Webb? Kirsten Gillibrand of New York — the new appointee who took Caroline Kennedy’s rightful (via genetics) throne — the one abandoned by Her Royal Highness, Sir Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton? Did you know DNC Chair Howard Dean is a fellow pro ’2-A’? NRA member (Google)?”
ROB: “I did not know that. I’m still scared though. Obama would sign any gun control legislation…”
MOI: “Even as stupid as the Democratic Party of today is, bro — you don’t have a THING to worry about. I’ll give you a hundred bucks if that crappola is ever signed into law. Besides, President Obama has said he agrees with and supports the Supreme Court’s RTKBA decision. If you’re going to be afraid of anybody with your RTKBA Civil Rights, you had BETTER watch out for your new G.O.P. -slash- R.N.C. head, Michael Steele.”
Folks, this was just yesterday. Fast-forward to today — “Rob” shows up again (in fact, he just left) at our favorite eatery (with WiFi, not to be confused with DiFi, of course) and I clicked on this article from The Hill entitled “Pelosi throws cold water on weapons ban” and his first reaction was: “Nancy [EXPLETIVE] Pelosi???!!!” (repeat four times, louder each time). I informed him he owed me a beer after he settled down and high-fived me, telling me what a “genius” I was, which I am, of course. Then, in chimes our server, “Bridge” I’ll call her since her real name is “Bridget”, and, of course, just like in “Rob’s” case, and being the huge privacy advocate I am, I wish to take every opportunity to protect her anonymity:
BRIDGE: “Yeah, but that damned Obama hasn’t kept a single campaign promise since he’s taken the oath of office.”
MOI: “Look here, Bridge — would you believe President Obama has called the feds off of going after medical marijuana clinics, the physicians who prescribe the drug and the cancer, glaucoma and other patients who are prescribed the drug? [SHOCKED LOOK as I continue] — Isn’t that a victory for those states rights you folks on the far-right are always screaming for?”
I read the article for her since she was on the other side of the counter entitled “Holder Vows To End Raids On Medical Marijuana Clubs” written by HuffPo‘s Ryan Grim. An “Amen” and an “I’m FINALLY impressed” from “Bridge”, followed by another high-five from both “Bridge” and “Rob”. See — it IS possible for the left and the right to celebrate in a non-partisan fashion every now and again. “Shocker”? Not to MOI. Then again, I’m a freaking “genius”, too, remember?
One thing’s for sure, whether you like or dislike this new administration — we’re DEFINITELY seeing some “change” and I, for one, find it a bit refreshing for the most part.

(shakes his head) Guns, I think you are not looking at this the right way. OK a team says that there is no truth to the rumor that they are going to cut Player X. What happens? The next day Player X is packing his bags. A company says “We are not in trouble, we are sound as gold” What happens? The next week the file for bankruptcy.
A progressive capon says “We won’t try to resurrect the AWB!” What happens? Well, a half truth maybe. What we will see will be a newer, more inclusive AWB. Something were all semi-autos are considered assault weapons, and even lever actions are assault weapons if they can hold more than 5 rounds. Not to mention registration, licences, fees, 350% tax on ammo (if that 10 cent/round goes through, that amounts to about 350% on the most common ammo – bulk boxed .22 LR), microstamping, and “smart” guns.
My guess is that the only reason Pelosi has taken this position is because Obama took over the issue himself, relegating Pelosi and Reid to the position of water carriers on the subject. She wants to be the sponsor of the legislation and does not at all like the idea of being just an implementor of White House policies.
Like Lovell, I am convinced there are some nasty restrictions in the works, just waiting for the right time or some incident to be put together and rushed through under the guise of “crisis”.

Finally, a common sense, adult decision about marijuana. Now if our governement could just go the rest of the way and legalize marijuna all the way and treat it with the same laws covering alcohol, we could go a long way towards reducing the deficit and raising our standard of living. Just one acre of green gold would make a small farmer’s profit for a year. I don’t toke but I really resented having to go to the street to buy help for my Mother a few years ago when she was fighting cancer. She could not afford the only anti-nausea that helped (like $700.00 a pill) but one magic brownie took away her nausea for 48 hours. Ombama is what a truly compassionate President looks like.
Carter was compassionate too. Remember 1980? Inflation over 20%, unemployment well over 10% (over 25% in my town), mortgage interest rates over 12%. We’re headed back down that road. Obama is looking more and more like another Carter.
Reagan pulled the U.S. out of that recession by lowering tax rates, not by raising them.
Expect the economy to get worse and worse until Obama figures that out.
He will start taking guns away to minimize resistance to the police state he is creating.
hmmm…let’s see. Alcohol makes people violent, car accidents, fatalities, poor health. I’m sure last years statistics are staggering.
Ambien, chlorine we swim i.e. Michael Phelps did this everyday for 8 years leaking of chlorine…cigarettes..TERRIBLE. Again, I’m sure the statistics on how cigarettes impacted our society healthwise was staggering in 2008. Ambien, probably not far behind…but that’s more of a long term effect in most cases. Alcohol and cigarettes are legal and pot is not because it’s bad?….hmmm ok.
I can’t understand this for the life of me — I mean about Pelosi. The woman is the scum of all liberals. I cannot see her passing up an opportunity to ban assault weapons — something’s the matter, the bitch must be smoking too much dope! My advice, keep the weapons in hands of the citizens — send Pelosi packing with a new career, maybe as a cobra charmer in Pakistan!
