Hey, who can blame these guys? First off, being Republican activists, they think nothing of trying to strongarm a president into facing his consituents who elected him based upon certain campaign promises, i.e., the sixteen-month troop withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq proposal the Iraqis themselves agreed wholeheartedly with (oops, I meant “time horizon“, I think), look them in the eye and say “OOPS. I changed my mind, my fellow Americans. I guess I didn’t know what I was talking about at the time.”
Well, President Obama didn’t cave in. According to The Huffington Post’s Gareth Porter, the president (paraphrased, of course) listened to the war mongers for a few minutes, leaned back in his presidential chair, and told them to get their butts back to work, sharpen their pencils and do what he told them to do weeks ago — do the Will of The People — A-S-A-P.
As you can guess, this went over with the generals like a lead balloon with these military men of honor politicians in combat boots. After all, my fellow OIF troops are over there fighting the terr’ists on Iraqi land so we won’t have to fight them here, correct? Not to mention the fact that the longer the war goes on, the more American tax dollars pass through their hands and folks, that’s a LOT of “moolah” we’re talking about here.
No WONDER these guys are angry and frightened, eh? Without pallets and pallets of “war cash” and their whereabouts being documented, where is that “troop” money going to go? To the veterans of this conflict or somewhere equally as constructive? Oh, MY — we can’t have that, can we?
How can our new president, Barack Hussein (Yeah, I said it. My middle name is “Edward” and I’d trade it for “Hussein” any day of the week) Obama NOT get “it”? The only thing that can save our economy now is WAR, WAR, and MORE war — bailout packages — ‘scuse me — “stimulus packages”, I mean, aren’t going to do JACK. That is, not when compared to the health of our military industrial complex, and sadly, the heads of the latter are thus far being ignored when they SHOULD be regarded as the “Paul Reveres” of today’s economic infrastructure.
Then again, I might just be wrong on that one. I frequently AM.

Must-read blogger reactions (in their entirety, please — these are just “snips“)…
“… if senior generals start briefing against their own commander-in-chief’s electoral mandate to withdraw from Iraq in 16 months, they should be reminded of the Constitution.” …
“… if they can not follow orders, they can resign their commissions. It is that simple.” …

Damn. You guys need to find a new cartoonist. Osama’s Ears are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to small.
There are several retired Generals who disagreed with President Bush. This is not new. There are alternatives to following President Obama’s direction, such as retirement or resignation. These are completely acceptable alternatives with years of precedence.
The chain of command is clear. These guys should be doing everything they can to plan HOW to draw down within a reasonable time frame. If they disagree with the set time frame then they need to inform the President of the options and let him define the boundaries. We have seen this before and the President wins. Obama probably doesn’t want to win to get his way, he probably wants them to be committed to resolving the Iraq situation and set a time line consistent with the wishes of the American people. Once again instead of teamwork we have push back from the Neocons and GOP.

The problem with doing the will of the people is most of the people are stupid.
“Once again instead of teamwork we have push back from the Neocons and GOP” — which is exactly what we also got from the democrats during President Bush’s administration. The democrats just haven’t been able to figure out that they will reap what they sow. They did not offer anything even remotely resembling teamwork when the republicans were in, they really shouldn’t expect it from republicans now.
“wishes of the American people” — There are still over 120 Million Americans who are opposed to the democrat philosophy of cut and run.
Also, BTW, referring to General Petraeus and his staff as “politicians in combat boots” is far worse than anything Rush Limbaugh EVER really said about liberal soldiers.
I don’t know if any of you liberals noticed, but Iraq just had ANOTHER FREE ELECTION!!!
I’m sure Ubama and the dems will eventually try to take credit for it, but we know how Freedom was really brought to Iraq.
FandB:
“… I don’t know if any of you liberals noticed, but Iraq just had ANOTHER FREE ELECTION!!! …”
Woo-HOO, bro — I DID notice. And I also noticed there were no homicide bombings and the Iraqis policed themselves quite well WITHOUT the help of our troops. Did you happen to notice that?
Yes I did, Bro! The Iraqi’s policed themselves through a free election, thanks to… you got it, President Bush and his administration, and of course the American troops who fought valiantly for a FREE IRAQ.
So it is almost time for us to go. As soon as the Iraqi’s reach the point where they can defend their borders as well. But we’ll still need to keep a few well positioned bases – at the invitation of the Iraqi government of course.
I can’t believe it, man — we couldn’t agree MORE on that last paragraph of yours…
I agree with the last paragraph also! While we’re at it we might our next mission should be Operation Free China or Iran…but wait, I thought it was Operation F*CK UP Bin Laden to begin with? Oh well….and by the way, The GOP can take ALL THE CREDIT they want on this one
“While we’re at it, maybe our next mission should be”
Time for coffee!
Oh GTL…your RIGHT! WAR stimulates the economy. So we’ve got 3 options regarding “Where we go from here” with the economy…all 3 can happen at once also i.e WAR,Inflation and China cashing in on their TBILLS…
So I guess we’ll soon find out if the dem’s god-king Ubama The Indonesian and his “administration” has enough brains and balls between them to figure out how to deal with China. Let’s “hope” so.
Based on his ability to select nominees for his cabinet, it doesn’t look good.
He’d better work fast though, Ubama is scheduled to start running for re-election sometime around mid-summer.
we shall see…Rome wasn’t built in a day as they say…takes a lot to unravel the past 8 years…didn’t think about him being “god-like” and the anti-christ at the same time…quite an interesting combination…hehe
Y’know how they say that everyone has an exact double? Isn’t it ironic that Obama’s double is Indonesian !
Obama the Indonesian
