Folks, by now you’ve probably heard the Republican National Committee seat was filled today by Michael Steel (The Politico’s Ben Smith) but in the interest of providing a public service to our readers, I am happy to provide arriving readers with both a very accurate title and subtitle to this column since the most recent Google “keyword boom” leading fresh readers to this site today include a lot of “Michael Steel guns“, “Michael Steel NRA“, “Michael Steel 2nd Amendment“, “Michael Steel gun control” and so on and so forth…
Folks, The GTL™ does, INDEED have your answers, and welcome to The Gun Toting Liberal™, dear Google visitors and yep — glad to help in giving the information you so desparately seek regarding your new RNC Chair and his disdain for certain portions of our 2nd Amendment, God-granted Civil Liberty to Keep And Bear Arms…
From The Washington Post – October 14, 2006:
… “You draw the line. I mean, what do you need an assault weapon for?” … — Michael Steele
So, there ya’ go, dear Google surfers — bookmark this site and come back early and often, please.
The “skinny” on Mr. Steel?
1. He doesn’t necessarily dislike all guns in general –
2. You lay two weapons of the same caliber and same internal design upon a table and should one of those weapons looks “meaner” and “scarier” [i.e., more black plastic grips on it] than the other one laying next to it, Mr. Steele believes that particular weapon must be destroyed and kept out of the hands of “mean” and “scary” looking ladies and gentlemen lest they wish to be slapped with a major felony and have both their voting and gun rights taken away permanently –
Hey, sounds reasonable to me — he has no problemma with guns as long as they don’t look “scary” or “frightening”… to HIM.
So, THIS must be the “new and reinvented GOP” led by the “new face of the GOP — draft dodger and troop-basher Rush Limbaugh” we’ve been hearing about? At least on the topic of our 2nd Amendment Civil Liberty, our Right To Keep And Bear Arms, the Democrats have pulled their collective head out of their collective rear end for now. Why? Because they’re too busy plotting their new wars on “obesity” and “cigarette smoking” bans to bother with a losing topic such as our RTKBA, that’s why.
Congratulations, Republicans. You asked for it, you got it.

Oh, and a big “P.S.” — Learned the hard way today: Don’t forget to send your $20 in the mail for your Alabama CCW permit or you’ll find yourself waiting in line for two hours while the overpaid beaurocrats on the front-lines call for prisoner trustees to re-arrange their plants and equipment while the standing room ONLY crowd taps on their watches and calling their workplaces and loved ones to explain why they are late for (fill-in-the-blank). Not that I would ever cause trouble or anything like that (don’t you just FEEL my halo?), but I was particularly offended to read the handout while waiting in line explaining how it is a Civil Liberty to possess a firearm but a “PRIVILEGE” to carry one on your person. I smell a court challenge down the road on that one.
Also — don’t forget to purchase your Gun Toting Liberal T-shirt before you go — the high-fives and “Me too, bro’s” were many as I wore my red “T” in pride right down here in my Great RED State…

Other reactions to the election of Michael Steele to the RNC chair (Just “snips” — Please read them in their entirety)…
“… Steele’s election won’t help the party attrack black voters immediately, but if Steele sets the right tone, he could help the party compete for them in the (way) future. As GOP strategists have always known, and noted, somewhat dyspeptically, it’s white suburban voters, particularly women, who are responsive to a diversity message. The RNC isn’t diverse yet; only five black delegates were chosen to attend the national convention. Steele was disgusted by that. It prompted him to run. …”
“Will the GOP be calling him Michael
the magic Negro?”
“… Steele might be more moderate than some Republicans running around but, considering how extreme the GOP has become in recent years, this leaves room for someone to still be a right wing extremist even if they are not the most reactionary person in the room. …”
“… You may remember Steele’s “Scarlet R” imbroglio and the delightful ad he ran about puppies when he ran for Senator, but what I remember best is his campaign’s “recruitment of out-of-state homeless men to hand out misleading campaign literature in African-American neighborhoods… “
“… even though we were *praying* for the old white guy — a member of a whites-only country club! — to come from behind and “steele” the black person’s victory at the last minute, we are “steele” satisfied with Michael “Steele.” …
And last but not least — a couple of notable reactions from the right side of our Blogospheres…

Last week I strung barbed wire across my yard to keep my corrupt neighbors out.
They have the “scary looking” assault rifles, and the alaskan bush to play “scary guy” in.
I could stop a tank with an ice cream cone, these guys want me to show them how I would do that.
I have friends, on the blogs, who can show me how to secure my property and enjoy function with no disruption from the corrupt idiots.
I ask, I listen, I shoot strait when they least expect it. I thrive.
We are all dealing with corruption as a full contact sport, like some gambling game anybody can play.
I have eight bullets for my rifle.
They will never see the rifle.
They need to stay off of my property.
The constitution, backed by the President, is a lot ” scarier” than the look of any gun.
Write yer ass off Gunster, good work.
Teeg.

As long as they keep Steele as a figurehead, we may be OK. He held his own filling in on Fox News as a newbie, he’s pretty charismatic, and rumor has it that he’s the reason Erlich was elected as MD gov over Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who was predicted to win in both PG and Balto Counties in MD–and didn’t.

LOL! Dumb and Dumber…well, I guess black folks will vote for the GOP party now. WRONG~! You can see the Token sign hanging around Michael’s neck a mile away, and so can minorities….this “tit for tat” strategy will most likely backfire…might be wrong but doubt it.
Obviously, the GOP were not thinking about their entire party when they made this move but they were thinking about one person at least….Obama.
This is Great for Comedy Central.
