Barack Obama Slips To The Right On Guanamo Bay

Steve-O To Georgie In Interview: Guantanamo Bay Isn’t Going To Be Easy To Shut Down Anytime Soon…

Look, I’m SURE President-Elect Barry “Steve” Obama’s reluctance to keep his campaign promise to shut down Gitmo doesn’t have a THING to do with “torture”; it is most likely his concern over all of the jobs, which would be lost should the Mikey-D’s, the KFC, the Wal-Mart and of course, The Taliban Towers tourist resort located on the installation should he suddenly remove all of their customers from the area. And that, folks, is “compassionate liberalism” at its finest.

After all, these are flourishing “bidnesses” with dependent employees involved and there have, no doubt, been enough American jobs already been lost in these recent times (Newsday). And folks, we don’t need anymore low-income wage earners pushing their way in front of the rest of us at the free soup lines, I’m sure you’d all agree with that sentiment.

From ABC News:

Obama: Gitmo Likely Won’t Close in First 100 Days

Closing Guantanamo Bay More Difficult Than People Realize, President-Elect Tells George Stephanopoulos in Exclusive Interview on “This Week”

By MARY BRUCE

President-elect Barack Obama said this weekend that he does not expect to close Guantanamo Bay in his first 100 days in office.

“I think it’s going to take some time and our legal teams are working in consultation with our national security apparatus as we speak to help design exactly what we need to do,” Obama said in an exclusive “This Week” interview with George Stephanopoulos, his first since arriving in Washington.

“It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize,” the president-elect explained. ..”

Of COURSE, the task of closing Gitmo down suddenly would be “difficult”, as Steve mentions to Stephanopoulos. It’s one thing to stop torturing the OBVIOUSLY dangerous and un-rehabilitatable Guantanamo detainees and either release them or officially charge them with a crime under the rules of habeas corpus, then toss them into the “clink” located in the continental United States once found guilty. What then, do we do with all of our troops who are serving over there? That’s right — send ‘em back to stateside duty. What would be the appeal for those many ghoulish Americans who wish to spend their vacations watching tortured Gitmo detainees at The Taliban Hotel And Resort? That’s right — NOTHING. ZERO. NADA.

Obviously, the POINT is, President-Elect Steve is sensitive enough to the plight of those poor employees who are working at some of America’s largest chain locations over at Gitmo. Wishing for a simple intra-company transfer for these poor people to a more “booming” location is one thing but the reality is quite another with our unemployment numbers rising through the roof…

And thank God Steve has the heart of gold needed to work through this obviously complicated issue with the least amount of strife for these multi-location, multi-national corporations and their dear employees who would suffer the brunt of the disaster.

“The order will not set a deadline for shuttering the controversial prison, the source said. Rather, Obama will order the facility to be closed as quickly as possible while leaving room for national security implications to be considered.”

In translation that means “We’ll issue an order, but not do a damn thing about it.” On par with his voting “yeah, I’m here” for most of his legislative life. He is soon going to find that he will have to make honest to gawd decisions and not just pass things off to other. Lord help us.

I’m willing to give him some time to take care of this situation – he’s got to figure out who and what he has there, and what needs to be cleaned up and dealt with.

George Bush truly struggled today in front of the press trying to tell us, the American people and the press, how we should judge his legacy being President…total joke.

Rome was not built in a day, but it took a day to destory it!!!!

give obama a break— it will take years to rebuild all that was lost in the last 8 years.

Why give him a break? Instant change to a perfect nation. That was his promise. Of course, he isn’t in office yet and he has already said “Hey, wait, I didn’t really mean it!” to just about everything that he did promise us during his two years on the campaign trail. I’ll give him the same slack that the progressives (I think at that time they were still calling themselves liberals) gave to Bush. That is – none at all.

    • springerfan

If Obama turns out to be as much of an idiot as George Bush then he shouldn’t get any slack either. time will tell.

    • terry61042

i don’t know anything about progressives, or whatever. my usband and i gave bush a chance, we backed him on his going itno afganistan, had no problem with that, because the groupthat did 911 came out of afganistan, by way of saudi arbia, but he lost us completely when eh went into iraq. irag was not the place to be, and ben laden is still alive today because of that.
i say give obama a break—who knows you might like it—-
