Obama rolls out national security team
(CNN) — President-elect Barack Obama on Monday announced Sen. Hillary Clinton as his pick for secretary of state, calling her an “American of tremendous stature who will have my complete confidence.”
“Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances,” Obama said at a news conference in Chicago, Illinois. “I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton is the right person to lead our State Department and to work with me in tackling this ambitious foreign policy agenda.”
Obama also confirmed that he is keeping Defense Secretary Robert Gates in his current post.
Rounding out his Monday announcements, Obama named retired Marine Gen. Jim Jones as his national security adviser, Eric Holder as attorney general, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as homeland security secretary and Susan Rice as ambassador to the United Nations. …”
I really can’t understand why President-elect “Steve-O” made a couple of these picks. For one, Sir Hillary Diane is a world-famous hawkish neocon; former Wal-Mart Director; former Republican ACTIVIST; who couldn’t WAIT to cast her “Yea” vote to go to war and occupy Iraq and P-eBSO says he and his sidekick, VP-elect Joey Biden, can’t WAIT to exit from Iraq. Huh? Am I missing something here?
Then, he gives us a FINE pick in Democratic Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as his Homeland Security Secretary; a woman, who unlike P-eBSO, OPPOSES wide open borders for illegal immigrants while he himself seems to believe in porous, deadly, wide-open borders despite the fact polls show even we voters who tend to lean “Blue” at the voting ballots thoroughly despise and resent our “Gub’mint” allowing illegal aliens coming here to suppress our wages and boost mostly far-right-led corporations’ bottom lines. Again — am I missing something here?
In the former case, I’m hoping, for P-eBSO‘s sake, he has somebody “expendible” on his staff to taste his morning coffee before it reaches his lips. After all, wasn’t it Sir Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton himself herself who called out for P-eBSO’s assassination back when he and her were locked into a tight race for the Democratic nomination? Indeed, IT WAS. While I thoroughly understand the concept of “keeping one’s friends close and one’s enemies closer”, I’m STILL a bit dumbfounded over this pick…
Governor Napolitano, on the other hand — we can all just hope and pray she will be able to talk some sense into P-eBSO on the “open borders and amnesty for all illegals” issue. After all, had you happened to have clicked on my link above, you learned she was KEY in giving the regular police forces the power to demand proof of Citizenship and deport them back to Mexico if they failed to do so. Tip of the hat to Ms. Napolitano for that on, by the way.
If America’s so dangerous, it’s Citizenry must have its hands tied by such unconstitutional (so-called) “legislation” as the USA Patriot Act and RealID, then it’s dangerous enough around here for us to know who in the hell is coming here and why. Most but not all illegal immigrants are simply here to nibble at the tip of the “Right-Wing Oligarchical Carrot”, but not ALL, and that’s a FACT.
Well — the guy I voted for has made his first moves, and while I question some of his appointments thus far (I mean, Rahm Emanuel, too?), here’s hoping this will prove somehow to be “The A-Team” once it’s all been said and done. Skeptical? Yep. Hopeful? Yep.

Obama for over a year has been accused of being an appeaser. Now his selections seem to be appeasing group after group. HRC is an appeasement to the Hillary supporters. Gates to the Republicans.
He really does seem to want to coexist with everyone, but ultimately an appeaser is usually beaten up in the school yard for his lunch money.

I like Napalitano for as much as I know she appears to be a pro choice conservative forced to be a democrat because you are not allowed to be pro choice in the religious right controlled republican party. a situation that has drove more than a few essentially conservative people to the other side.
which unfortunately has its own extremism issues. what is a liberal conservative too do when the choices are socialism and authoritarianism?
but i think green schemes makes a very valid point in my opinion, Is obama strong enough to pull it off? probably not. will the country melt down because of it? probably not. his biggest hurdle wont be his cabinet, it will be congress. we shall see
One of these appointments should be ringing alarm bells in the libertarian (small l) crowd – Eric Holder for attorney general. This man has pushed for sweeping gun control measures throughout his career. He has endorsed the discredited collective rights interpretation of the Second Amendment. He also signed an amicus brief on behalf of the D.C. government in the Heller case. Obama’s selection of Holder raises serious concerns about his commitment to the Bill of Rights.
