Jack Goldsmith: Please, PLEASE Don’t Investigate Me, Mr. Obama!
FIRST — A glance at the “Who Is This Guy Anyway???” tagline at the bottom of Mr. Goldsmith’s passionate plea to the Democrats to HALT any and all attempts to ramp up torture investigations under the new Barry “Steve” Obama Administration:
Jack Goldsmith, a Harvard Law School professor, is the author of “The Terror Presidency” and a member of the Hoover Institution Task Force on National Security and Law. From 2003 to 2004, he served as assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel.
Preceding the tagline above, and you’d know it if you’d have clicked on the link, you’ll see something basically similar to this:
“Dear President-Elect Obama:
During my tenure in the Justice Department in 2003 and 2004, I *might* have engaged in willfully obeying the unlawful and unconstitutional orders of President “Surge” Dubya Bush to torture people at the pleasure of the president in support of
my countrythe Bush-Cheney agenda. Please, PLEASE don’t investigate me because if I DID torture, or authorize torture of suspected “terr’ists” and you find me guilty of such heinous acts, you would only confuse lawyers on Capitol Hill and we can’t have confused lawyers.Sincerely,
Jack Goldsmith, POSSIBLE But Definitely Patriotic Torturer
Hey, the man has a great point. We, as a People, have already overreached our quota of confused lawyers in Washington, D.C. as it is. Witness the House and the Senate for just an obvious example. Then when you toss FISA, The USA Patriot Act, RealID, and the Fourth Amendment in general into the ring, folks, you’ve got MAYHEM to say the very least.
Not to mention the fact that should “Steve-O” choose to sick the FBI on torturers and violators of our 4th Amendment Civil Liberties under Bush-Cheney, Incorporated, our prisons would be filled to the brim with confused lawyers and there would be no room to incarcerate the REAL “criminals” — those “criminals” who commit those so-called “victimless crimes”. And folks, THAT is what our real aim should be as a society — to incarcerate as many folks as we can who engage in such “immoral acts” as reacreational drug activity, prostitution, and other forms of consensual activity between adults of legal age as humanly possible.
After all, have you ever heard of a “patriot” smoking pot for his/her country? I haven’t. But I HAVE heard of lawyers and politicians torturing (OOPS!) innocent civilians in the name of “patriotism”.
It’s not the “body counts” that count, folks — it’s whether or not there were “good intentions” behind the mass murder, torture, genocide, etc., which REALLY should count the most in the end.
