Barack “Steve” Obama Runs From “The Daily Kos” Types And Into The Open Arms Of The “Joe Lieberman” Types…
James Kirchick of The New York Daily News has this to say:
Barack Obama doesn’t fear the enraged, impotent Netroots
Barack Obama isn’t even President yet, and he’s already angering some of his most devoted followers on the party’s left wing. This is the mark of what could be a very successful presidency. …”
(Snip!)
“… Given the intensity of blogger rage over Lieberman, one can understand how their defeat at the ends of their own party would lend itself to hyperbole, but when did the “American people” appoint Markos Moulitsas their spokesman? And while there are many ways to interpret the outcome of this year’s presidential and congressional elections, that voters across the country wanted Joe Lieberman to be stripped of his committee chairmanship is not one of them.
Indeed, the only people who seemed to give a fig about Lieberman were the “Netroots.” Along with abandoning Iraq to Iran and Al Qaeda, punishing the “traitor” Joe Lieberman was their paramount concern (know that in the minds of Netroots, Lieberman hasn’t only committed treason against the Democratic Party; a quick perusal of the more popular liberal blogs will also find the words “Zionist” and “Likudnik” attached to his name). Most Americans probably recognize Lieberman as the guy who ran with Al Gore in 2000. But to the Netroots, Lieberman is an obsession, an individual who inspires mania. He is the worst thing possible: not only someone who disagrees with them about foreign policy, but a liberal who disagrees with them on foreign policy. …”
(Snip!)
“… In the wake of Obama’s historic victory – he is the first Democrat to win a majority of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter and has seemingly reconfigured the electoral map by picking up states that Bush won just four years ago – many liberals have been quick to claim that the Democratic triumph means that we’re now living in a liberal country.
They should take a deep breath before reaching such conclusions. Only 22% of voters this year consider themselves “liberal” while 34% call themselves “conservative,” numbers roughly unchanged from four years ago. And as Doug Schoen pointed out in this space, it was moderates, not liberals, who played the decisive role in electing Barack Obama President. Obama knows this, which is why he has repudiated the Netroots time and time again, on issues ranging from Iraq withdrawal to FISA reform. Equally important, he rejected the hyperventilating wing of the party tonally, as evidenced by the calm and systematic way he ran his campaign.
The week before Tuesday’s meeting, Obama let it be known that he bore “no grudge” against Lieberman. …”
FISA reform? Fuggitabout it — “Steve-O” was and always HAS been in favor of the felonious “Telecom Immunity” crappola. He’s all about it, in fact. I resent that. I suppose that makes me a “Netroot”. Fine. I can live with that.
“CHANGE”
Is that what we call it when a president-elect appoints a MAJOR, “Israel Can Do No Wrong” brand of Zionist in Rauhm Emanuel to be his White House Chief Of Staff? Iran — look out, here we come. Nothing against Israel, but face it — just like our United States, they ARE capable of screwing up once in awhile and it would be a nice change of pace for the White House to be just a LITTLE bit more “objective” when it comes to the topic. Now, I’m not holding my breath.
Furthermore; is it really “change” when one of his very next moves was to appoint well-known former G.O.P. ACTIVIST and Wal-Mart Director Sir Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton to the position of Secretary Of State? The woman’s never sniffed a military conflict she hasn’t liked, including Iraq. And folks, “Steve=O” is, again — “all about it”.
Sorry to say, but it’s beginning to sound like “Four More Years” more and more every day during this transition.

sounds like the reality of the world is smacking the idealistic liberal view of the world sqarely in the nose.
the deeper we get in this new presidency the more it will show that as long as we allow the dirt bags in the united nations to dictate this countries foriegn policy,
and liberal dirtbags in our own leadership dictate our social and energy policies the president is helpless to do anything but goosestep to the same old tune. the change we need is a SERIOUS commitment to eliminate
the evil in this world WHEREVER it resides, and SERIOUS commitment to supply our own short term (50 years) energy needs in the form of oil and natural gas and coal and a SERIOUS commitment to develop long term clean energy sources to completely eliminate our dependance on other nations for our energy resources. and lastly and most importantly a SERIOUS commitment by the people of this country to take responsibility for their own actions and not blame the bank or the gov’t for their problems, and not look to the gov’t as a personal protecter from themselves. This is the change we need in this country and neither the current administration nor the incoming administration has shown they are truly serious about any of this. Israel and the UN will continue to dictate to us how to we address foriegn policy, and liberal environmental extremists will continue to choke our domestic energy policies and liberal dirtbag politicians will continue to let millions of freeloading criminals into our country and we will fade into global socialistic oblivion.
No president can save us, if we are not commited to saving ourselves.
Left Already Disappointed With Choosing Obama : Stop The ACLU // Nov 23, 2008 at 4:27 AM
[...] want to start out with my personal liberal friend, whom I warned about Obama, Gun Toting Liberal who quotes James Kirchick of The New York Daily News: They should take a deep breath before [...]
No worries, Barry will go down the hard Left road come Jan 21
Let’s see now, Barry wants to spend billions upon billions to build roads, or in other words will spend billions as a big thank you to the unions that got him elected.
He will give millions of people a free house, or close to it by buying up mortgages.
His questionnaire for potential hires includes the questions “Do you or anyone in your home own a gun?”, essentially excluding any gun owners from the administration.
He will institute the Fairness Doctrine, killing talk radio. It won’t be called the fairness doctrine but have the same effect.
If the left is unhappy, then obviously there simply is no pleasing the left.
Sounds like the idiots on the right can’t admit they have been wrong on eveything but guns, and still are. Here in reality, Obama wasn’t, isn’t and never will be a far left liberal, as the corrupt political machine on the right would have had us believe. He’s been a centrist all along, and so that’s how he is setting up his administration. Hillary got nearly half the vote in the Democratic primaries, so this is a good move to unify the party. Also, it makes sense to put her in a position where she has a lot of power but is still subordinate to the President. Hillary is certainly one of the stronger candidates for the job in her own right, (you have to admit she’s one stubborn biatch) and besides, her husband was the best president America has had in recent history, and he’s there to counsel her and Barack.
As far as the UN goes, let them grab Bush and try him in the Netherlands for crimes against humanity, after he pardons himself and his filthy cabal here in America, then jail him till he rots.
True, the Prez will be goosestepping a bit; we realize he can only do so much, but the government was created as a mechanism with which we can unite and better ourselves, and as long as he treats it that way and encourages others to do so, instead of just being the idiot puppet leader of a crime syndicate whose goal it is to steal everything they can from it, then his administration will be exponentially more effective at improving the lives of the average American. Bush dug a deep ditch to lower the bar into; Obama could “phone it in” and raise the bar again. The country would be in better shape if we had drafted someone from death row or placed a houseplant in the oval office.
We need a serious committment to eliminate the sheer stupidity that resides right here in America; there are people so ignorant of other cultures and so smug and self confident that they believe that we are the good guys and they, whoever they are at the time, are the bad guys, and that we have to kill them all. The serious committment is to end poverty and to eliminate the legitimate reasons people around the world are pissed off at America. Ignorant foreign policies like ones based on a premise that we have to eliminate evil are costing us dearly and must be relegated to the dust bin of history. We are neither the good guys nor are we the bad guys. There is no room on this tiny planet for such small mindedness.
We need to get off oil and natural gas as soon as possible, in the next ten or twenty years tops, and we need to completely restructure our lives to do so, which will require leadership that recognizes we are in a crisis at least as big as WW2 and leads accordingly. We need people to take responsibility for themselves, pick themselves up by their bootstraps, turn off the TV and get off their fat lazy asses, and unite to organize politically to force government to respond to the needs of the people, instead of to the ultrawealthy, because the laws have been moving steadily in the favor of the wealthy for far too long. We need the government to protect us from predatory lending and bogus financial schemes, and to take care of things like firemen and policemen and healthcare and soldiers. Government is there for a reason. There are some things they do best. Once, there was a worthless, piece of crap, dumb-ass president, that some Americans are ignorant enough to revere to this day, that said that ” government is the problem” so he let the mental patients out and he stopped building or even repairing America and so on. I guess that at the time he was a pretty good leader though, because a lot of stupid Americans went right along with him. Now, I’d like to piss on his grave. Our nation will be paying for his ignorant and horribly misguided policies for generations to come.
We need to double down on our environmental laws and show the world we can lead again, but mostly by using positive reinforcement and rewards for success, to supplement the existing negative reinforcement of mandates and resultant penalties for noncompliance.
We need to hold the wealthy business owners who hire illegals accountable. Put THEM in jail and the flood of illegals will slow to a trickle. Or we could go with the Repuglican approach and break the unions and eliminate all the laws protecting the American worker so that our companies could pay us a few dollars a day to work twelve hours a day, six days a week like we did 100 years ago. When we give up all the protections that the liberals have fought so hard for, only then will America be able to compete once again. Or maybe the righties are just ungrateful, hypocritical idiots.
We need to stop our dependency on oil import as soon as possible to lighten our budget deficit problem in the long term. The saving of the oil import $$$ can be used to repay for investments we are going to make soon to improve our infrastructure, education and industries as well as to launch a new green industry to make us more competitive in the near future. I support every move Obama make so far and he has proven that he sticks to his words so far. He would be better in the middle to unite and motivate the majority of the country. Radical left or right is no good for this country as the Bush admin has shown.
Oh, come on.
Obama SAID that he’d be a great friend to Israel.
Did you think he was lying? Why in the world are the “netroots” upset for a guy for doing what he said he’d do? Come on, give us all a break, please!
As for FISA, the telecom immunity bill didn’t give immunity to the felons. It gave immunity to the telecoms, whose main crime was obeying a served warrant. Can’t say I blame them for that. Yes, there may have been some cases where information was leaked accidentally, but the telecoms did not deliberately do any harm. When Bush was in power, we needed the telecoms to get the records. Now that Barack is President, he can get the records directly. Will he fire the people who did this stuff? Yes. Will he prosecute them? No. Why?
Because he said he wouldn’t.
You weren’t lied to. You’ve just managed to delude yourself.
double down on environmental regs? that would essentially bring this country to a completely unneccesary grinding screaching halt. that statement alone shows how completely out of touch with reality most liberals are, of course when the gov’t supports your easy living life style, who cares if people have jobs. I suppose your one of those liberals that believe enviromental laws have been relaxed during the Bush administration? If you are you are wrong, but i’m sure you ignore that reality as well.
One thing I like with Americai is, it’s soo diversed. You can see the stupid, the more stupid and the most stupid ones. So you can never please any of these groups.
as long as the united nations will give voice to to criminal nations like Iran and Syria, and nations like India and China whose leaders totally disregard basic human rights and refuse to accept any environmental responsibility, then any opinion of the UN that conflicts with the interests of th USA should be ignored. discerning between what is good and what is truly evil in this world is not hard if you take off the the rose colored utopian why cant we all just get along glasses. Like i told your liberal comrade in another post, its a good thing the world didnt share your attitude about who is good and who is evil when hitler was in power. while conservatives struggle to keep america’s head above the water of the third world scum pond, liberals are intent on dragging us under the water and to their level. that is their vision of equal, when they and their godless breathren in th UN have brought this country down to their level of poverty then all will be right in the world. that is their intention not to raise the level of the world to our level, but to punish americas success and rightousness and bring us down to their level.
How about showing your BC Obama? People praise this fool acting like he is a saint when he lies about so much. He totally disgusts me.
You bitter, gun and religion clinging losers just don’t get it. Obama isn’t stupid and that’s why he won and will win again in 2012. Get over it already and stop your whining.
Should the UN only give voice to criminal nations like America? We have the highest prison population by far and most of our prisoners are political prisoners, or maybe you think our war on drugs is a great idea too. Only small minded people think we need to trash the planet to make a living. Cleaning it up will be quite profitable. Obviously you either don’t know much about anything or, more likely, are just not living in reality, but it seems to me that you are saying that environmental laws weren’t “relaxed” under the Bush administration. What’s it like on the other side of the looking glass? Have you seen the mad hatter? Which attitude about Hitler? The first half of the war when Prescott Bush’s Union bank was one of his primary finaciers and money launderers and when we were selling weapons to both sides, or the second half where we reluctantly joined the British. Let’s not forget the third part when our government dropped atomic weapons on the women and children of an already defeated nation just to let Russia know we were actually that ruthless. I don’t question your intentions I just think your too stupid to know what’s good for you. I really wish the best for you and for everyone else, but your implication that somehow we liberals want to drag everyone down just goes to show what a bitter and small minded person you are.
not really on topic but the pelosi comments made me recall a humorous sight from yesterday.
a news conference with pelosi, ried, and frank, with shumer and dodd in back all jostling each other to get their yappers in front of a microphone to pontificate to the public how they sent those men from the car companies back to get their 25 billion dollar wish list in order before they came back asking for any more money.
wink wink.
WHAT A BUNCH OF LIARS. if it was up to that commie cartel they would have sent a gov’t courier with a check for 50 billion.
thank goodness for the few true conservatives we have remaining in congress…on both sides of the aisle.
I made this post two days ago, I must admit I was wrong.
the commie cartel actually wants to give this bunch of thieves, and I fully include the united auto workers of america in that description, 75 BILLION dollars of tax payer money no strings, no plan, just here you go. beyond that chuckie (give me those guns) shumer comes out today with a plan that needs another 750 billion dollars. not the original 750 another 750 billion dollars, 150 TRILLION dollars of tax payer money from the poor to the rich. liberals dont believe in trickle down they believe in trickle up.
“NOBAMA in WH” I feel/felt the same way about George Bush…so, although I don’t feel the same way as you do, I TRULY understand the feeling of being disgusted…in fact, I understand how everyone feels i.e. right, far right, left far left, conservatives that can’t stand the President elect. To have a President you can’t stand in office is quite annoying but some kind of way I made it through the past 8 years…and so will all of us, no matter how we feel. We have to be more effective keeping pressure on Obama, even more so than Bush due to how deep down we are sitting in the rabbit hole at the moment as a nation. As GTL said earlier, folks will stay on his ass and they have more access through technology to do so more than ever before. Time shall tell.
your right only a small percentage believe we need to trash the planet to make a living and apparently you are one. greenpeace believes it, the morons who blindly buy into the global warming scare tactics believe this.
reasonable people understand that we can utilize the resources on our planet without trashing it. you know only the BS propaganda of the left, I on the other hand live it. IT IS MY BUSINESS, I know what the environmental regs for my business were in 1990 I know what they were in 2000 and I know what they are now. and they are far more restrictive now then they were in 2000, this is not subjective, this is a simple undeniable fact, My costs of meeting enviroregs has increased between 5 and 20 percent yearly since 1994, not overall but yearly. your just flat wrong on this one giardia, some of our disagreements are subjective but this one is not. I have the documentation to back up my assertion on this one and it is in my checkbook.
I couldn’t agree with NOBAMA more! Tell “BARRY” or whatever his name is, to prove he was born in America. Where is his BIRTH CERTIFICATE? Think about it. Down the line after we find out he’s lied to us, anything he puts his signature on would be meaningless, worthless. What then???? THINK about IT?
yes america is bad giardia everywhere else is good, sooo
maybe people of your attitude should leave, if i so detested a place i would leave. if you believe that the history of this country is just a string of evil deeds strung one after another then why are you still here?
Maybe because no one else will pay to support your stupid lazy “partially disabled” ass. your welcome.
I will keep the funds coming so instead of producing something you can bitch about the evils of america and spout your skewed view of american history and attend what i’m sure is your gov’t subsidized cultural anthropolgy class so you can be further brainwashed by another gov’t funding sucking liberal.
“Vegofish”…I responded to “NOBAMA in WH’s” post ONLY and SPECIFICALLY. I didn’t read your previous comments so basically, I wasn’t responding or alluding to any of your comments about the environment or greenpeace, which I don’t have ties with…it sounds like you might’ve made a mistake thinking I was speaking to you or just wanting to start an irrational argument. I tend to think you thought I was responding to you and I wasn’t.
i can assure you bigotjerry that i will give the office of the president and it’s inhabitant, regardles of my agreement or disagreement, with his political views the respect that it deserves. something that petty, smalled minded bigots like you have never been able to do.
no, i was not referring to you at all, until this previous post
gotcha…all good then.
IONLYWANTTHETRUTH & JERRYSPRINGERLIVESINGOP; I do not understand how the media and the justice system could allow him to not prove he is legal. We are in serious trouble if he does make it to the WH and we find out he was not legal after he signed bills. It could be devastating for the world.
Obama made a huge issue about MCCain citizenship and he had to prove it but then MCCain had nothing to hide. No one in their right mind would post their BC all over the internet for the world to see unless of course they do have something to hide. Also given the fact that there is also no seal or signature on it should raise plenty of eyebrows. Especially those in our legal system.
Obama is a liar and a fraud and I for one have no respect for him.
“vegofish you said, “Maybe because no one else will pay to support your stupid lazy “partially disabled” ass.”?????
You’ve got waaay tooo much HATRED. It’s one thing to attack ideology but now your attacking someone’s disabilities and that’s outta bounds.
I’ll be surprised IF your not blocked from the site. That’s way under the belt.
“bigotjerry”…now that’s funny coming from a hateful person like yourself that wants to argue all day.
“NOBAMA in WH” I can APPRECIATE your argument and position. I just can’t see the GOP not using Obama’s citizenship issue to take Obama down during the Presidential campaign when they were pulling up dirt from everywhere but we shall see!
partial disability is the liberal term for lazy, i want to help all the truly disabled people who need it and want it, unfortunately the money gets sucked by the partially disabled so they can have time to shoot high powered rifles and fish for trout in mountain streams.
I see now, Veg-America is God’s gift to the world and can do no wrong, or what little wrong she’s done was the fault of liberals. If the world saw things as clearly as conservative Americans then Jesus could come back and take us all to heaven. You have criticized people repeatedly in other threads of reading their own thoughts into what the other guy said but this thread reveals that it is you who do so, aggregiously. I have stated repeatedly that America is a great country that has done some terrible things but you insist I detest America. I discuss ideas, you attack me. You are not supporting me in any way. Get off your high horse. It’s quite possible that you and your business have experienced some cost increases due to environmental regulations which may or may not have been poorly written or implemented although the figures you provided indicate nearly a three fold increase in the cost of doing business just to the impact of environmental regulations which is, of course, complete bulls4it. Yes, the government does support my school but judging by your level of ignorance I’m guessing you dropped out of high school and feel we should stop educating children whatsoever. By the way, my cultural anthropology teacher is an NRA gun nut specialist on the history of warfare and anything but a liberal, but I like and respect him because he’s not an ass4ole like SOME conservatives.
I continue these conversations with you not because you will ever admit you’re wrong but rather, so that smart people can follow along and see how hypocritical and illogical you are. I hope the GOP keeps saying the things you’re saying. If they do, they’re numbers will decrease steadily.
I’ve got to get to the bar in time to watch the Broncos kick the s4it out of the Raiders.
By the way. GO AMERICA!!!
I was on crutches for two years with a broken ankle, which led to broken hardware in my ankle, which led to mutiple staph infections contracted in the hospital, which led to blood clots along the tube that was in my arm to inject antibiotics. The hardware in my ankle tore tendons which were sewn together, and mangled cartilage which I had to wait for a compatible child to die to receive a transplant. I can finally walk again but I will limp forever.
Veg-You are a piece of s4it. Go fu4k yourself.
Sorry GTL-had to say it.
Peace everyone else.
GO AMERICA!!!
Ditto that “G”! By the way, I’m off to mini party to see the Titans…and no I’m not a bandwagon fan…I followed them since they were the Oilers and Earl Campbell. I loved those old Bronco/Oiler games!
AMERICA ALL THE WAY!
I would be shocked if any you who so vociferously disagree with my points view isnt somehow subsidized by some sort of gov’t funding, either for your work or your health or your retirement or your lazyness. So it comes as no surprise that you cant understand the plight of people who have to get up and produce everday with the gov’t hanging like a monkey on their back.
and so did george bush break your ankle? or some other of the evil aspects of america? I am sure it wasnt your fault whatever happened.
your schooling is gov’t funded but MY tax dollars dont support you in anyway?
I’m sure schooling is not the full extent of it.
and yes you hit it right on the nose my budget for environmental spending has increased around 300 percent since the early ninety’s No BS. environmental regs are far stricter right now than they have ever been.
your the one that has not had one positive comment on america, but im reading somthing that isn’t there?
you, like most liberals i come across, are so completely lost in a cloud self rightous hypocrisy i am surprised you can see far enough to type.
The Obamas voting record (when he didn’t dodge a hard one and vote Yeah, I’m here) is nothing close to moderate. He is solidly in the big government, nanny state, we-know-better-than-you-how-to-live-your-life socialist progressive. Expect him to be as ruthless and iron handed in the White House as he has been throughout his political career.
I could go through the list of aches ,pains and injury, serious and minor that impede my butt from getting out of bed in the morning after a lifetime of hard self employed work, but i’m not a whiney bitch so I wont.
suffice to say I know NONE of you support or subsidize my life in any way other than being consumers of my products, which you all want, but dont want me to produce. I represent your ultimate hypocrisy.
peace to all who love america and the quality of life that the people who produce make possible, including
you giardia and you jerry.
Joe Lovell shall be henceforth known as “Joe the correct”
by yours truly anyway
Great Post GTL, and great commentary.
Reading through these today one thought came to mind.
There was a generation of people in our history that is often referred to as “The Greatest Generation.” This generation believed in Hard Work, Education, Accountability, and Personal Responsibility. They did not care too much what other countries thought of us or what we did. They understood that the United States was a great experiment, one that is ongoing to this day, in a way of governing that had never existed before on the face of the earth. For that reason, people from other nations and other forms of government could never really understand what it meant to be an American. That generation is the one that took the U.S. from a new world power to one of the world’s superpowers in a couple of short decades.
Their hard work and dedication resulted in men on the moon, nuclear missiles, détente, and the development of thousands of inventions and improvements that define modern life. They built roads, bridges, skyscrapers, schools, churches, airports – all with the goal of improving America and the American Way of Life – the American Dream.
The people who accomplished these great things weren’t liberals, or conservatives, or any other single group – they were Americans. In retrospect, it is easy to see that they were also black, white, Hispanic, Asian, etc. – although at the time it may not have been so clear.
The culture created by The Greatest Generation is one that we should strive to emulate in many ways.
Vegofish: You’ll probably find that when Joe takes the time to make a comment about something, he’s usually pretty much right about what he says (except when he bashes Lincoln). Girardia may be on the left fringe, but he is still a hard-working American making his way the best way he can – as far as I can tell he’s not sitting around looking for a handout. His opinions, imho, are relevant and important. If you take the time to read what he writes, about 5 or 10 percent of any given post contains some good or interesting thoughts.
The “Truth” is usually somewhere in-between all the “opinions.”
Girardia: America is not a criminal nation. But I agree with you that Obama probably made a good choice in selecting Hillary, although some position other than Sec. of State may have been better. I don’t think we can get off oil in 20 years, maybe partially but it will require tremendous effort. 30 to 50 years is more reasonable.
Another thing The Greatest Generation believed is that you stand behind your country and the President, whether you agree with him or not. The self-centered, self-righteous liberal culture of hate in this country did not stand behind President Bush. I believe, however, that most conservatives will put the petty political bickering aside and stand behind Obama when (if) he becomes President.
As Lincoln said; A house divided against itself cannot stand.
The best thing for America right now is for everyone (or as many of us as possible) to jump in the boat and start rowing in the same direction.
Thanks FANDB, that was quite kind of you to say. Even what I say about Lincoln is fact, even if it isn’t The Truth that is found in his haigiography (commonly known as history text books). He really was quite the tyrannt who ignored the Constitution. Take just about everything the Bush Bashers scream about Bush doing that is or may be illegal, and Lincoln was doing the dame samn (sic – I like the look of that typo) thing. Well, Bush hasn’t closed down hundreds of newspapers, locked up a state legislature, well, you can dig up the history.
As to his “house divided” line, he cribbed that from Matt. 12:25 “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.”
Thanks Joe, I knew it originated in the Bible, I just wasn’t sure where.
I too thank you fandb, for your well thought opinions and my apologies to both giardia and jerry, for offending them.I have a highly charged personality and can get emotional in my opinions, and this has worked well for me at times in life and not so in others. its funny that i am not at all what jerry and giardia and stella percieve, and I should remember that they too are probably a little more rational than i give them credit for.political arguments can certainly get more
“expressive” than opinions over other matters. The fact is that there are definetely “truths” that both sides dont see from the other side, and we could all stand to remember that. The other thing we could all stand to remember is,judging by the commentary, that few if any of the people taking the time to post here are “stupid” or “idiots” or any of the other labels we all have thrown at each from time to time. differentiated in opinon to be sure, but all obviously intelligent people, as much as we would like to think sometimes that people who cannot see what we feel is obvious are “morons”, none of the people posting here that I have encountered would actually fit that category, particularly giardia, jerry or stella. all are obviously intelligent people. and I will personally
do my best to remeber that from this point forward.
not that it is an excuse, but holy crap, i got up this morning and the first thing i see is nancy pelosi wants 75 billion for the car companies and shumer wants to double the bailout by adding another 750 billion, and man did that light me up.
giardia, specifically my apologies for my derogatory remarks concerning your physical situation, trust me, with out detailing it I know about living with pain and though i have never referred to it as a disabilty, I understand, and again my apologies,
jerry i suspect you are no more a bigot than i am a racist so my apologies to you as well.
you guys are mostly wrong but that is something you can be in america and still be right, or should i say correct, lol, if that makes any sense.
FandB == Thankya, Bro — you’re right. What you said is what we’re all about here. Blog on, Sir
GTL you are a night owl man
FandB, your post #35 was great. We all do too often forget that we are all one nation.
Thank you for reminding us.
wow…Ditto that…seems like I missed a lot on here
Same here F&B. Good job getting us all back in line, although, of course it’s you righties that are correct about 5 or 10 percent of the time and us lefties that usually have the best answers and ideas.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
5 to 10 percent? you have an interesting calculater G.
although my apology stands, and I will not include you in a generalization anymore because I dont know you, I stand by my opinion that the term “partial disability”
is a term that is used and abused in our nanny state.
I have come across many in my life that have applied that term to themselves when the only thing truly disabled is their ability to motivate themselves to go to work. This to the detriment of the truly disabled in my opinion. I cant count the times I have witnessed people collecting state industrial payments or other forms of disabilty payments fish , hunt, garden, even ride motorcycles or snow machines. essentially perform any task they choose except go to work and be productive. I dont say this to rehash the previous argument, I bring it up to make a point. When i made the acccusation that you are one of these types, you were offended. again I was wrong to do this and made myself accountable and apologized to you and obviously needed to stand back and remember that not all people with a disabilty are burdeons to the state, well the some can be said for tour accusations about people that work in environmentally sensitve fields, not every harvester of natural resources is out to hurt the enviroment, your statement “Only small minded people think we need to trash the environment to make a living” is totally correct. only small minded people refuse to accept that we can mine and log and fish and in general utilize the resources our planet offers. your blanket refusal to accept this is very offensive to me. my work is intertwined in my being and my being is intertwined in nature. I go to enormous lengths generally above and beyond regulations to make sure i do no harm or to mitigate harm i may inadverdantly do. my life revolves around nature and it is offensive to me to be accused in general terms of being a bad guy because i mine or log or fish by people who are small minded and selfish in their environmental views. of course there are companies that feel less compelled to mitigate their impact much the same as there are some who abuse the nanny state to allow themselves to live a lazy lifestyle. and all honest people should try and prevent both things from happening.I guess what i’m saying is my outburst did not come from a mindset of hate like i was accused of, but from being offended deeply and personally by your statements just as I offended you with mine. I’m not sure if this will make any sense to you but i hope so. Once again my statements to you were based on emotion and wrong headed and i am accountable for that and my apologies for the statement. but no apologies for my opinions on worthless turds that abuse the the system and take from people who truly need a helping hand in the world.
happy thanksgiving to you as well, but if you are eating tofu turkey because of some skewed view of animal rights…. just dont tell me. lol I dont want to know.
Good morning,
I got the 5 to 10 percent figure from F&B’s excellent post. Heck, you guys might even be right 15 or even 20 percent of the time. Actually, I forget the way he put it, but in a different thread a short while back he said something to the effect that the right and the left in America are only about six inches apart in the big scheme of things.
I’m walking further and further each day, going to the gym, and working on getting some of my various business ventures back on track, moving from where I was completely disabled for a while, through partially disabled, to where I will no longer consider myself to be disabled at all. Just a bit of a limp. I too get upset when people take advantage of the system. I was on workers compensation for a little over two years through private insurance. My employer, whose costs increased because of my case is still my good friend. I will be working for him again if his business survives this slowdown which is beginning to hit our small mountain town pretty hard. We need snow.
Here at the top of the Rockies, we all are deeply intertwined with nature. We log, hunt, fish, mine and otherwise extract a living from the resources at hand, with varying degrees of negative repurcussions. We cannot feel guilty for existing or for needing to manipulate our environment in order to do so, however, we can do a good job or we can do a sloppy job. We need to do a good job and so far we are not. Perhaps a little better than the Chinese, who are currently shitting their own bed, so to speak, in order to compete. They can’t keep it up for long. There’s no reason for us to water down our rules in the mean time. This planet is not a giant place, it is a tiny life raft that is overloaded and running out of resources. It’s not dying-we are killing it, big-time.
In the past, America has united and faced tremendous challenges with amazing success. Out of the worst of times our predecessors have sprung forth with the courage and the ingenuity to solve problems, through a combination of our government, our businesses, and our individuals. We are at a similar point in history, but we have to be willing to admit our shortcomings and fallabilities, and we have to clearly recognize our challenges and opportunities. Things are not OK. They’re not even close to OK. We will need to make tremendous changes in how we do everything, and if we don’t all help, or at least a substantial majority, it aint going to work. This has got to be like a combination of the New Deal, the Manhattan Project, and the Apollo program.
GO AMERICA!
our perspectives on the state of the planet and life in general are so vastly divergent. perhaps our differnces in perspective are based on geography and sociology, more than politics. when i look out my window i see a beautiful planet that those of us that live here are thankful to utilize and happy to protect. Rewnable resource management here in Alaska is a model for the
world. The scientists and participants in my opinion
are the finest stewards of the resource and the planet that we have to offer. I can understand the negativeness, if I had to live in a tourist town and share the resources at hand with hypocritcal yuppies driving their fuel wasting suvs to ride power sucking chair lifts to a mountain top that without this assistance would kill them, and they really have no business bringing their hypocritical views upon.
If you want to talk the talk then walk the walk.
take the chairlifts down and stop depending on filthy hypocritical tourists for a living. mountain top ski areas do far more environmental an ecological damage than the small footprint of an oil rig ever could.
not to mention rewarding the underserving for the personal gain of a few. if we want to ski down a mountain where I live, we first walk to the top. the scare tactics of global warming while applaudable in their efforts will prove ultimately inneffective. because of the apathy of the urban dwellers, those who wish for those of us who supply their needs in the form of food and energy to make all the sacrifices while they continue to litter and pollute there way from urban dwellings to your mountain recreation areas.
I realize I may sound self righteous, because in this respect I absolutely am. At one time in my life, after I narrowly avoided having my common sense educated out of me by leftist professors I worked as an engineer in a chemical manufacturing plant. Ostensibly one that produced “treatment” chemicals for munincipal treatment
of sewage and water. It was a vile and disguting place to work, and all my co-workers thought it was the cat’s meow, easy work, great pay, union protection against lazy dirty habits and stupid mistakes, a real workers utopia. 5 years into it I had had enough. I had grown to despise the apathy of my co workers and nanny state mentality of both management and the union. underworked and overpaid while spending countless union protected hours playing cards and smoking cigs in the break room
with complaints of overwork and not enough pay.
thoroughly disgusted and disillusioned I knew there had to be a betterway to make a living and raise my family. and I found it. Im am realist, I dont believe I can change the world, but I can affect MY world so I did. I found a place where I could live a self sufficient lifestyle utilizing but not abusing what the great beautiful planet we live on has to offer. surrounded by like minded people both liberal and conservative but all believing in helping each other as opposed to waiting for the gov’t to help. we use rewnable clean energy and ecologicaly responsible methods to aquire what we need. nature and development blend quite nicely outside my window, but i’m not looking at a line of suv’s on the highway aggresively taking what they have not earned.
