Bad News For Alaska Republican Senator Ted “Bridge To Nowhere” — Felons Can’t Vote In Alaska (Updated!)

Corrupted, Longest-Reigning Senator In U.S. History Found Guilty On All Seven Charges

UPDATE BELOW (Tuesday, October 28th; 9:37, CST) — The Barracuda Reacts

“The Tedster” just lost a once-sure, crucial vote in his Senatorial race against Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) — his own.

From The ACLU:

ALASKA
Currently ex-felons in Alaska can vote only upon completion of sentence, including probation and parole. …”

Ted Stevens is now guilty and a felon who cannot even vote for himself in the 2008 election...Folks, as of TODAY — “The Tedster” is officially a felon (Source: The Hill). Not just a good, old-fashioned felon either — a seven-time felon and hopelessly unqualified to vote for himself. This is bad news for Mr. “Bridge To Nowhere”; a bridge Sarah Palin was also once in favor of, by the way; with a recent poll of 500 likely voters in Alaska showing a 250-250 tie between himself and Mayor Begich. Or, something like that. At least I THOUGHT I saw a poll like that on television somewhere.

As soon as she heard the news, Sarah Palin did the RIGHT thing and demanded the future jailbird step out of the senate race. Oops — my bad — “The Barracuda” did no such thing after all. I just assumed, being the wholesome, trustworthy and “maverick” Republican governor of Alaska she is famed to be, she would have automatically, immediately called a press conference to state the obvious — “Teddy — get outta WASHINGTON NOW!” I’m sure she’ll be getting to this any minute now, for the good of her little old buddy, Señor Panama John McCain’s race against Barry “Steve” Obama.

But hey, the good news is, we now know where The Tedster’s infamous “bridge” leads to now…

The CLINK and a highly-sexed cellmate by the name of “Bubba”.

UPDATE:

“Sarah Palin said Monday Sen. Ted Stevens’ guilty verdict “is a sad day for Alaska.”

“This is a sad day for Alaska and a sad day for Senator Stevens and his family,” she said on the tarmac at Richmond International Airport. …”

(Snip!)

“… Palin did not respond when asked if she will vote for Sen. Stevens next week… ” — CNN’s Political Ticker

Say it ain’t so, Sarah! Meanwhile, her Panamanian sidekick DOES call out for The Tedster to resign (H/T to The Anonymous Liberal).

      Now hold on there, Gunny.

You claim that Governor Palin should have demanded Senator Stevens drop out of the race, alluding to the “Maverick.”

It would seem that the mavericky thing to do would be to zag when others zig, to bob when others weave. Since it seems the mainstream line of thought is that Sen. Stevens should drop out of the race, then it would be perfectly mavericky for the Governor to not suggest he should do so. I think she’s being very consistent here!

No one has told Palin what to do so she hasn’t done anything yet Ya Becha.

Stevens is still neck and neck with the democratic contender for his senate seat according to NPR radio but what do they know they are a bunch of vegetable eating communist.

Stevens may still win his seat then after McCain losses then Alaska may appoint Palin as Senator. Then she and John can serve together in the Senate.

Perhaps McCain will leave whats her name and move to Alaska with Palin and retire to hunt Moose and seals.

You see the possibilities are endless. We should thank the Republicans for such a great comedy show.

I do believe its against the law for a felon to run for the senate.

      Isnt it?

Or wait…..maybe not. Or else we would not have any qualified candiates for that office.

      greenschemes,

Steven’s name will not be able to be taken off the ballot. I think there is a dead line in most states of 30 days to have a name taken off the ballot.

So it is a technicality that Stevens name is still on the ballot. In cases like this usually the Governor of the State appoints someone to the Senate seat.

green — yep, a felon can run for the Senate in Alaska; they just can’t vote for themselves (or anyone else for that matter) until all time is served :-)

In their joint interview today, both McCain and Palin said that Stevens should resign; they just didn’t say when he should. Palin can appoint herself to the senate seat if he stays on the ballot until after the election and wins and then resigns. Ole Blue is right, it’s too late to take Stevens name off the ballot. I don’t know what the procedure is in Alaska if a candidate dies or resigns after the deadline.

Tuesday can’t get here fast enough. I’m going into a no politic zone this weekend and in a way it will be a relief.

I’ve got to correct myself. Just came back from Mudflats, a democratic Alaskan blog. They’re saying that Palin can’t appoint herself to Stevens seat because that changed when the last governor appointed his daughter to an open seat. Now there has to be a special election. They also stated that Stevens is coming back to Alaska tomorrow to campaign. I can’t remember how many elections I’ve been through but 2008 has to be the one up there with the Keystone Kops. No matter who wins Tuesday it will have been a historic election, it seems like that should have been enough.

I sure wish Palin would make a real statement ….anyone see the weak pandering statement she made on the issue?? Palin needs to jump in and stand strong and not completely stop being Gov of AK. Has anyone noticed that the “Senator” has missed 45% of his Senate votes! Who in their right mind would then elect him to run our country?! Palin needs to show she stands strong and doesn’t put up with corruption on any level…that what she and McCain have been saying all this time, but now she needs to follow through with that or she is going to look like a liberal illuminati puppet
