Señor “The Economy Is Fundamentally Sound” McCain Challenges Barry Obama To Postpone First Debate So He Could Go Help Out With The Financial Bailout Package

Obama Says “Thanks but no thanks – get your Panamanian butt down here and debate me”

John McCain challenges Barack Obama to bow out of debate so he and Barry can go to Washington to help bail out irresponsible criminal Wall Street CEO types with a financial bailout for sub-prime lenders...Well, that’s not EXACTLY the way it went down but I do highly suspect Señor J. Sidney McCain’s attempt to appear to take “the moral highground” (As reported by ABC’s Political Radar blog – “GTL paraphrased”, of course) by not only declaring a self-imposed moratorium on running his filth-laden campaign ads, but volunteering to suspend the first scheduled debate with Barry Obama until the “$700b (USD) Irresponsible, Crooked CEO Bailout Package” (Source: AP – Yahoo! News) was completed. And how did Barry respond? In a “gentlemanly” way, he told the Panama John Paŕa Èl Presidenté Campaign to go take a leap.

First off, and I’m not sure this is the reason Barry Obama told Señor McCain to stuff it — just guessing — it MIGHT have been because, hey; why do we want anybody dumb enough to claim our economy is “Fundamentally Sound” working on an economic bailout package for greedy CEO’s? If this isn’t enough to prove the Senator from Arizona Panama is completely out of touch (forget all of the cars and mansions he forgot he owns for a minute), remember his previous “Greatest Hit”; daring a bunch of union guys to pick lettuce for $50.00 per hour not so long ago?

If this is the case, I heartily agree with Barry O-Bomber; this man, J. Sidney M., needs to stay the hell away from ANY discussions regarding our economic meltdown due to the mortgage crisis he and his GOP buddies created. Let those who still know the value of a fifty-dollar bill in Washington (yeah, I know — a rarity) handle it and let Señor McCain get his lunch eaten by Barry this Friday evening, I say.

While it is notable, Barry has said he’ll debate Panama John in Washington, D.C. if the GOP’s campaign of whiners continues to complain about facing him in the first official presidential debate between the two-major party cartel members, it is also worthy of questioning the assumption that a man of such questionable integrity and moral values (Panama John) is suddenly acting as if dodging another “OK Corral II Showdown” is somehow better serving America than showing up to help “fix” the economy when he obviously has no idea how many mansions and cars he owns our economy is NOT “FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND”. I’m with Obama-O-Biden on this one, and in fact, would take it a step further by urging Señor Juan Sidney McCain to just stay as far away from “Wersheengtin” as possible until the BIG BOYS and girls figure it out.

On the other hand, perhaps the Elder[LY] Statesman, “Panama Juan”, should just send his running mate, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska in to Washington, D.C. to help figure out how to straighten this mess out since she’s far more qualified than her boss on how to manage finances, if not as the mayor of Wasilla, at least as the state’s governor. While Mrs. Palin’s foreign policy experience may be questionable, at least she knows how to punish the “good ole’ boys” when they need to be “spanked”. And if there has ever been some corporate “spankings” needed in this Oligarchy of ours, it’s right now.

Starting the “spankings” off with “Señor cuántas mansiones Tengo?” (Panamanian for “Mister how many mansions do I own?”) is a great idea, too. And Friday is as good a day as any, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Obama is once again showing poor judgment. I imagine he will skip the vote on this vital piece of legislation so that if it doesnt work he can claim he had good judgment and if it does work he will claim that he knew all along that it was a vital piece of legislation.

No one has also really asked the question “What exactly could these two do back in Washington that will really matter in resolving the crisis?” I’ll tell you what, close to nothing. The issues involved here are way beyond the understanding of both candidates and two more voices in the room will only serve to muddy and politicize the resolution further. Debate away fellas.

You really think McCain and the GOP caused this crises? A few years ago McCain co-sponsor a bill- S90, the Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005-that would have greatly increased oversight of Fannie and Freddie. The bill was killed by the Dems and Obama was instrumental in its defeat.

      http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com/2008/09/21/john-mccains-fannie-maefreddie-mac-warnings-may-2006/

BTW, guess who is in the top 5 recipients in contributions from Fannie and Freddie? And who has two of the top executives on his staff? Anyway, the Dems wanted to use F & F as a housing project and supported all efforts to make loans easier to get including the so-called NINJA loans. After all, requiring people to provide documentation on their earnings and assets is just plain discriminatory. And even that wasn’t enough. The F & F crowd may have been cooking the books to meet profit goals and trigger executive bonuses.

Many in the GOP went along for their own reasons. There is plenty blame to go around, but at least McCain at one point saw the danger and tried to do something about it.

Left Coast, I did ask that very question, and the response I got from the right-wingers on al.com was that he could negotiate in person. Now granted, they seemed to ignore the fact that him being there in person to “negotiate” could actually cause problems in the bipartisan negotiation.

      http://almoderate.com/2008/09/24/could-mccain-hurt-negotiations-in-dc/

Gunboat, you would be so wrong it hurts. Well, maybe not SO wrong, but those facts were definitely twisted. Where to start… First, let me say that a blog is not the best source to back up your claims. Rather, try using their sources instead. Here’s the first I’m starting with:

      http://wire.factcheck.org/2008/09/19/mccains-cloudy-crystal-ball/

There are other sources that they link from there. Now, as you can see, his whole claim having “predicted” this fallout is a stretch at best:

“PolitiFact.com (Sept. 17): We give McCain some credit for weighing in on problems surrounding Fannie Mae, even though he got involved after a comprehensive government report issued a loud alarm to anyone watching. However, his attempts to depict those efforts as some sort of early warning that could have lessened the current credit crisis just don’t wash. All McCain was talking about then was the potential fallout of accounting troubles in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He didn’t say anything about a freewheeling climate among creditors that had major financial institutions becoming badly leveraged on bad loans. We rule his claim Barely True.

As for contributions from Freddie and Fannie… Let’s take a look at that. The grand total of contributions that the Obama campaign has received from PACs associated with FM… $6,000. It’s not exactly a large sum in comparison to the amount he’s raised and definitely not enough to buy any influence. The rest of the contributions being counted come from individuals who just happen to be employed by FM and their families. The total contributions from individuals and PACs make up about 0.03 percent of his total campaign funds. My husband works for the City of Birmingham. If we give a donation to a campaign, it’s not a donation from the City of Birmingham. It’s a donation from US.

Further, McCain doesn’t seem to want to disclose his own involvement with the two. In fact, McCain has received $21,550, all from individuals. But then what’s good for the goose is also good for the gander. It makes up a total of 0.01 percent of his campaign contributions. But the really interesting part is regarding McCain’s campaign manager– Rick Davis. Davis was a lobbyist, and his firm was paid handily by FM.

From a speech by John McCain on May 26, 2006:

“I join as a co-sponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190,to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.”

There are many things McCain has done or proposed that I do not agree with, but on this one I have to give credit where credit is due. Since he saw this possibility 3 years ago, it is entirely appropriate that he be included in discussions now, even if he were not running.

BTW the whole “Panama Juan” thing is getting more than a little tiresome. Surely you can come up with something new.

Gunboat, again, that excerpt is extremely misleading. He was referring to accounting troubles that these two were having. He WAS NOT talking about their purchasing or bad loans.

Further, the fact that his campaign manager, Rick Davis, still has a steak in his lobbying firm and the fact that the firm took money from FM as recently as LAST MONTH does NOT bode well for John McCain.

I suppose it’s possible that on occasion during his disgraceful tenure at the public trough, McShame actually stood up for something right, but I doubt it. He was probably on the take as usual. I forgot to mention that Democrats suck too. As far as “idiot” goes, I mean it in the nicest way; it’s just that the positions of the right, which have had trouble standing up to reasonable argument for years, are now crashing to the ground around us in obvious failure. AHH HAA!! To follow up on my earlier question as to what McCain could actually do back in Washington to solve the economic crisis, Tucker Bounds, McCain’s idiot savant in chief, has provided me with the answer!!

“Before John McCain suspended his campaign yesterday, the situation that we’re looking at today looked very different then. After he showed leadership and called for bipartisanship, and called for us to put partisanship aside and tackle this solution, here we are.”

Whoo Hoo!! And for his next trick he will re-invent the internets with v 2.1, cause the stock market to rise on some days and fall on others, cause some days to be cold, others to be warm, remarkably enough cause there to be light then dark then light etc. etc. There’s just no end to the list of the wondrous Zeus like things McCain can do simply because he returned to Washington!! Or no even simpler yet–HE breathes and thinks (barely and for who knows how long)therefor we all are!! All hail to the mighty McCain as delivered to us by the Prophet Tucker for without him there would be no life!

If he hasn’t been able to articulate his stance, and compare and contrast it to what Johnboy has to say in the 2 years he has been campaigning, another few hours in a glorified press conference isn’t going to make an iotas difference.

Gunboat, I’m going to quote you for a second, here…

“But just to repeat, it was the Republicans who called for more regulation of Fannie and Freddie and the Dems who killed the proposal. You can look it up.”

Okay, I looked it up. The proposal came across in 2005/2006. Until 2007, both houses of Congress were controlled by Republicans. It would have been virtually impossible for Democrats to have killed that bill without at least a little help. Rather, it was killed with a bipartisan majority.

Even looking at that… 26 years in the senate and being over the commerce committee… McCain almost ALWAYS voted for LESS regulation. The fact that this seems to be the only example that anyone can recall of him going after more should say something.

Left Coast, I can tell you exactly what he can do (and DID do) in Washington that he can’t do on the campaign. He screwed up negotiations. They had a plan almost near completion yesterday and finalized it this morning before McCain got there. It was ready to go and then… BOOM! Bipartisan cooperation goes up in smoke! The Dems now have their own plan that they’re pushing, and the Republicans are pushing one of their own. We’re going to be in this for a very long time, I’m afraid.

Joe, as to articulating where the candidates stand… I do know where Obama stands on the economy. I know enough to know that I disagree with him. That’s not the issue, though. Sen. Obama has done a very good job of stating exactly where he stands on the economy. The problem is that nobody (including McCain) seems to know where McCain stands on the issue of the economy.

McLame sure did a great job of suspending his campaign. You can still send him money, if you like flushing your money down the toilet. He’s still running his ads, allnegative and all lies, by the way. His “idiot servants” are still smiling at the camera while they tell bald-faced lies, pathetically trying to spin his actions as something heroic, with their ridiculous nonsense, that most people see right through. He’s still giving speeches, usually to exploit his POW experiences, to avoid accounting for things like his criminal involvement with Keating during the last major collapse of our economy caused by greedy Republicans. He’s still changing the subject every day from his failed policies to some exciting new stunt, like the way he picked an incompetent dizzy bimbo for V.P., or like the way he parachuted into these complicated bi-partisan financial negotiations for a photo-op and screwed everything up . He’s still doing his best to avoid situations where he could be confronted by people asking real questions, who expect consistant, intelligent answers, like during the debates he’s trying to weasel his way out of. He still flip-flops on any issue that comes along, like this current crisis, where one day he says we shouldn’t be bailing out these banks to the next day, where he pulls a huge campaign stunt by claiming he’s suspending his campaign to provide the leadership needed to get this bailout done. His campaign manager is still a lying, piece of sh*t lobbyist on the payroll of the criminal companies that have caused our current economic predicament, but who is orchestrating a campaign that claims it will clean this crap up. Right. And his delusional supporters still try to defend him, to no avail. What exactly did he think he meant when he said he was suspending his insane clown-show of a campaign. It’s pretty sad commentary on America that this pandering Bozo is within forty points of Obama. Finally, McShame should stop stealing Obama’s signs!

girardia, I would love to disagree with you, but you’re exactly right. I think pretty much everyone realized by the end of the day that he wasn’t serious about suspending his campaign. And most people realized by the next day (if not by the time Obama started talking about why he would rather have them put out a joint statement) that if he DID go to D.C. and start getting involved in negotiations that he was going to screw everything up.

Sure enough, the campaign was never suspended in any way, and McCain continued to make appearances rather than actually BEING in the conference room. (Not that there was anything he could have done. He wasn’t on the committee working on the agreement.) We saw Democrats AND Republicans announce the next morning before he got there that they had an agreement that would be voted on Saturday. Then McCain arrives… BOOM!

All of a sudden, the Dems have a new play that THEY want, and the Reeps have their own plan to push. So much for bipartisan negotiations from the great reacher-across-the-aisle. Feels more like a reach AROUND to me.
