Was J. Sidney McCain Of Arizona Panama Advocating Another Huge “Bush-Like” Expansion of Executive Powers Or Did He Simply Forget No Èl Presidenté Has The Power To Fire An SEC Chair?
Now that Juan Sidney finally knows how many houses he owns (I presume?), the man either needs a crash course in the powers available to any sitting Presidenté or he has exposed himself as a co-sufferer of President Bush’s “Expansion of the Executive Branch over any other previously ‘Separate But Equal’ branch prior to his presidency reign” fetish.
Speaking at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa today after Señor Sarah Palin, THEESS EESS what Señor McCain Para Èl Presidenté had to say (Source: ABC’s Political Radar) about what needs to be done about our currently “Fundamentally Sound“ (Source: NYT) TANKING economy and what he would do to cure our woes:
McCain Flub? Republican Says He’d Fire SEC Chair as President
ABC News’ David Wright reports: At a joint rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Thursday, Republican John McCain slammed the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) for being “asleep,” saying that if he were president, he would fire Chris Cox, the chairman of the SEC since 2005 and a former Republican congressman.
McCain said the SEC has allowed trading practices, such as short selling, to stay in place, that turned the “markets into a casino.”
“The regulators were asleep, my friends,” McCain said. “The chairman of the SEC serves at the appointment of the president, and in my view, has betrayed the public trust. If I were president today, I would fire him.”
But while the president nominates and the Senate confirms the SEC chair, a commissioner of an independent regulatory commission cannot be removed by the president. …”
Okay — I’m really not going to expand on this snippet from Political Radar, I’m simply going to be filing this one under “Duh!”. I leave it to our highly diverse, highly intelligent readers this time to pontificate in the comments section below…

He may have been speaking hypothetically or trying to rile up the crowd into thinking he is a tough reformer. Although the Chairman of the fed is but a small cog in the financial wheel of our capitalist system.
The election rhetoric is not about truth, responsibility, or accountability but about getting people emotionally charged enough to vote for a particular candidate.
McCain was windbagging it again.
Sorry GTL, your sources and ABC News are wrong on this one. The President appoints the Chairman of the SEC and can remove the chairman for various reasons, e.g. malfeasance, neglect of office, etc. ( see MFS Securities Corp. v. S.E.C., 380 F.3d 611, 619 (2d Cir 2004) ) More lefties spinning lies about McCain.
McCain got it right and ABC got it wrong.
I wonder which side Obama will land on.
BTW, what does Obama and Osama have in common? …
… They are both good friends with someone who blew up the Pentagon.
OMG, FandB — My sides are splittin’, bro! I just never know what you’re gonna come up with next… LMFAO!!!
Oh, and you fergot to call Obama “The Anarchist”
If you think that’s funny, you might not think this is as funny…
If a Hebrew Rabbi (like Jesus was said to have been) had spoken IN HEBREW the words “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from Heaven” (Luke 10:18) he would have said: “Satan barack o bama” which means Satan as lightning fallen from a high place (or the highest place, i.e. heaven).
Now that is eerie.
I hate to tell you, bro, but yep — my sides are splitting again! RFLMAO!!!
Wouldn’t “The Antichrist” run a better campaign?
Yeah, I know. But when I saw it I looked up the Hebrew words… barak or barack = lightning, and bama = a high place or the highest place, O or U is a connecting word that can mean from. I’m not sayin’, I just sayin’. Eerie.
“Wouldn’t “The Antichrist” run a better campaign?” – I don’t know. How smart could he be if he went to war with God and got his butt kicked out of heaven?
Maybe I should change my gravatar… If he really is the antichrist maybe I shouldn’t try to piss him off too much.
LMFAO, bro
It’s been fun watching all four wheels fall right off the flip-flop-express this week, although it’s unfortunate that it took such tremendous chaos in the market for McShame’s lies and stupidity to become so glaringly apparent. First he says the fundamentals of the economy are sound. Then he tries to say that workers are the fundamentals of the economy. Then he flip-flops to admitting that we’re in a crisis and suggests a 911 style commission. I’m sure he’s hoping this new commission does as piss-poor a job as the 911 commission did, so it does not become obvious that his party’s efforts to deregulate the markets are the primary cause of this mess. He says there is an alphabet soup of floundering reulatory bodies one day, then he proposes a new one the next. He has been a deregulator all his life but now he’s ready to clean up Wall Street. Now he’s going to fire someone who’s actually done a fairly good job at the SEC, enforcing the gutted and watered down laws he was handed, a man whose term will be over in a few months anyway. Let’s not forget that this supposed foreign affairs expert doesn’t know what hemisphere Spain is in. This guy is unfit for any job, anywhere, and is proof that we need an amendment to the Constitution banning senile old geezers from being in this government at all. Get everyone over 70 out of government-period.
Then there’s the Palin fiasco. I remember a week or two ago, before people realized the Palin bump was actually the burm warning the bridge is out ahead. Now she, and First Dude are refusing to respond to subpoenas. She can’t come up with one specific example of her foregn affairs knowlege. And everything she has claimed to be or have done as a reformer is a complete lie.
Finally, my conservative friends and family are admitting that this ticket represents four or more years of the same garbage and, although none of them will vote for Obama, they will probably just stay home on Nov.4th.
G
Just to “Fair and Balanced” here, what did Sen. Obama say about the the current “crisis” this week? Did he ask his good friend Franklin Raines( former head of Fannie Mae that made $15 million a year) what to do? Perhaps he recalled that in 2005 he had a chance to vote on major reform for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and instead chose to join with Sen. Clinton and Sen. Dodd to bury the reform legislation. Dude, this is a case of “people that live in glass houses shouldn’t go around naked having sex with farm animals.” The party of “the little guy” has it’s bloommers hanging way out on this issue.
