Distortions Of The Truth Quickly Beginning To Derail Señor John Sidney McCain’s Straight Talk Express

The “New Kind Of Campaign” Señor McCain of Arizona Panama had promised us has, indeed, turned out to be a “New Kind Of Campaign” at that. I’ve seen some FILTHY political campaigns in my time but nothing NEARLY as filthy as the one being waged by the Señor McCain Para Èl Presidenté Campaign. In case you didn’t know, I’m NOT a direct endorser of the Barry Obama -slash- Joe Biden Campaign either — I’ve just never been so frightened in my life of a presidential candidate as I am of Juan Sidney McCain, which is why it should be noted there are plenty of other presidential candidates in this race, by the way…

So, what am I grumping about this afternoon? The Boston Globe is now reporting Señor McCain’s Straight Talk Express has become nothing more than just another slow freight train loadeded down with tons of heavy baggage. Well, those are my words, not theirs, but you get the point, I’m sure, since this site features the smartest readers in the political blogosphere. Specifically? The latest? THIS:

Palin camp clarifies extent of Iraq trip
Says she never ventured beyond Kuwait border

WASHINGTON - Sarah Palin’s visit to Iraq in 2007 consisted of a brief stop at a border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait, the vice presidential candidate’s campaign said yesterday, in the second official revision of her only trip outside North America.

Following her selection last month as John McCain’s running mate, aides said Palin had traveled to Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq to meet with members of the Alaska National Guard. During that trip she was said to have visited a “military outpost” inside Iraq. The campaign has since repeated that Palin’s foreign travel included an excursion into the Iraq battle zone.

But in response to queries about the details of her trip, campaign aides and National Guard officials in Alaska said by telephone yesterday that she did not venture beyond the Kuwait-Iraq border…

“… It was the second such clarification in as many weeks of the itinerary of what Palin has called “the trip of a lifetime.” Earlier, the campaign acknowledged that Palin made only a refueling stop in Ireland.

In her interview with ABC News Thursday night, Palin did not mention Iraq in describing the visit, saying only that she went to Kuwait and Germany to meet with US forces. …”

OOPS.

Oh, and speaking of the “Slow Freight Train Loaded With Heavy Baggage Express” and the Charles Gibson ABC interview being referenced, FactCheck.Org has THIS to say about another, generously (by MOI) put McCain-Palin “gaffe“:

Palin says Alaska supplies 20 percent of U.S. energy. Not true. Not even close.

“… Palin claims Alaska “produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.” That’s not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that’s a far cry from all the “energy” produced in the U.S.

Alaska’s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by “supply” Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska’s production accounted for only 2.4 percent. …”

“… Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin sat down with ABC News’ Charlie Gibson for an interview, part of which aired Sept. 11. In the exchange, the Alaska governor misstated a basic fact about her state’s energy production:

Palin: Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that’s with the energy independence that I’ve been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy, that I worked on as chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, overseeing the oil and gas development in our state to produce more for the United States.

It’s simply untrue that Alaska produces anything close to 20 percent of the U.S. “energy supply”… “

OOPS.

Perhaps, Andrew Sullivan — a CONSERVATIVE blogger, by the way — puts it best:

“… I cannot quite keep count at this point of the bald-faced lies that the McCain-Palin campaign has been telling to a pliant, pathetic, useless excuse for an American press corps. …”

Yep, I think we’re ALL beginning to lose count of the lies and distortions by now, Sir. Just today, we’ve learned all of the above but that’s not where it stops. According to Bloomberg, the Señor McCain Para Èl Presidenté Campaign is even lying to the media about the size of the crowds he and Sarah have been packing in. Apparently, they’re not packing Madison Square Garden with scalpers waiting outside to sell inflated, over face-value tickets after all.

“A New Kind Of Campaign”, INDEED, Señor. Just SHAMEFUL.
