Sarah Palin In ABC News Interview: It Might Just Be Time To Go Kick Some Russian BUTT!

UPDATE BELOW (ATTN., ANDREW SULLIVAN AND READERS), 11:30 PM, CST — Friday, 12SEP08…

Sarah Palin Warns Charles Gibson She, Too Is A “Hardliner”

Sarah Palin threatens to wage war on Russia if they continue to pester Georgia -- Four More Years Of Bush DEBUNKED -- Sarah Palin with gun photo of the week...“You mess with the USA or our allies and you get your BUTT KICKED up around your ears!” has been the mantra of both Democratic and Republican administrations alike since… well, SINCE the military-industrial complex took over and made massive death and destruction our number-one export. Pre-this era, we only sent our kids to die and kill when our nation was assaulted; today, we send our kids to die and kill whenever our “national interests” are “threatened”. Of course, the term “national interest” now encompasses every remote corner of the globe, but that’s beside the point.

ABCNews‘ Charlie Gibson, in his three-part interview with Governor Sarah Palin of my homestate and once “home”, Alaska, digs deeply enough to give comfort to each and every neoconservative in America. We will, INDEED continue exporting “war” as our number-one “cash crop” under a Señor J. Sidney McCain Para Él Presidenté administration. What a RELIEF to those fellow Americans of mine, God Bless their good hearts, who believe the ONLY way to retain freedom and our Democratic way of life is to constantly be killing people who threaten the “weakest amongst us”; that is, unless we’re talking about Sudan or other places with little or no valuable natural resources, of course.

A “snip” from the interview (Video provided at the ABCNews site):

Sarah Palin Defends Experience, Takes Hard Line Approach on National Security

Republican VP Candidate Speaks with ABC News’ Charles Gibson in Exclusive Interview
By RUSSELL GOLDMAN

“… On the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, Gov. Sarah Palin took a hard-line approach on national security and said that war with Russia may be necessary if Georgia were to join NATO and be invaded by Russia.

In her first of three interviews with ABC News‘ Charles Gibson and the only interview since being picked by Sen. John McCain as his Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin categorized the Russian invasion of Georgia as “unacceptable”…

Hey, what can you say? Sarah and her boss, Señor J. Sidney McCain of Arizona Panama are OBVIOUSLY the “diplomats” this country has long been waiting for to take the reigns from the out-of-control Bush-Cheney Administration in the name of “change“. This interview; these words; should give great comfort to anybody who had previously suspected we might be in for FOUR MORE YEARS of the deadly, yet, quite LUCRATIVE Bush-Cheney “Big Oil and Nation Buildin’ Bidness” under a McCain-Palin presidency.

Seriously though — I’d find these words rather comforting if we were talking about our 4th State of Georgia and defending Governor Sonny Purdue’s turf (As her boss, Señor McCain believes). Or, even that tiny country of Georgia if needed and IF the rest of the free world pitched in and even carried the MAJORITY of the load with the United States lending a few thousand or so troops to the cause of freedom and Democracy. But that’s NOT what the Alaska Governor and my former classmate from Wasilla, Sarah Palin seems to be saying — at all.

“Four more years of Bush”? It’s surely beginning to sound more and more like it to MOI.

UPDATE:

Andrew Sullivan of The Daily Dish has also received this cut-and-paste reaction from a commentator who goes by Lit3Bolt:

“Via Sully:

I just wanted to say thank you so much for being the only blogger (aside from Al Giordano) who gets it. While the rest of the blogosphere (especially the liberal bloggers) lose their heads you are an island of common sense. Patience and Steel. Yes, yes. yes.

It also occurs to me that in a way McCain and Rove have actually simply taken over the liberal blogosphere in some way. They are being played.

Just a few examples—yesterday Obama gave a fantastic interview at the Service Forum. Did the liberal blogs even cover this? No.

He gave a great speech on the trail. Are his town halls even posted or excerpted? No.

The liberal bloggers have become McCain central. …”

Strangely, this commentator brought to light a VERY valid question; my only question, however; is how trusted this commentator really is? While giving credit to Andrew Sullivan (i.e., “via Sully“), one must ponder how sincere and how dedicated this particular person is, going (apparently?) from blog-to-blog, giving the same response. At least, I ASSUME he/she is going from blog-to-blog, touting how “refreshing” our websites are for leaning left in this election while clinging to our independence as people and as voters.

Anyhoo — it is, INDEED a valid point and “spammer” or not, both the commentator AND his or her theory do bring up a “circular” train of thought, worthy of entertaining…

      Not true.

I chose my name to provide the truth as I see it in I hope a very non partisan way.

Sarah Palin is not advocating the United States attack Russia or confront Russia. Georgia and the Ukraine both were under consideration by the Nato Alliance for admittance.

However this admittance is contingent upon many things, not the least of which would be that Russia is not going to attack either of them and would most likely never do so in the future.

Barak Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain, George W. Bush and the entire Nato organization are all in favor of the admittance of Georgia and the Ukraine into the organization with caveats and conditioned upon them entering NATO without clouds hanging over their admittance.

Therefore Sarah Palin is not advocating a confrontation with Russia and neither is anyone else.

Q: Let ’s move on to what you say is the number one issue facing the United States in our time. And that is the challenge of addressing Islamist extremism. What credentials does Gov. Palin have — in national security, diplomacy, foreign policy — that qualify her to be your partner in that, on that issue: the fight against Islamic extremism?

This question can be asked of every one running for congress and everyone seeking the presidency of the United States.

It is a question we are asking as a nation and it is one in which we are not finding many answers. Winston Churchill was an excellent war time prime minister but once the war was concludded it did not take long for him to find himself unemployed in favor of someone more fitting for peacetime.

I suggest that none of the four candidates is qualified to fight the war on terror and that of the four perhaps only McCain has the where withall to fight such a war. Remember that Lincoln had to fire general after general in order to find Sherman.

The question has always been why? Because there were not too many politicians or generals that were qualified to run a civil war and kill fellow Americans. The same holds true today. There just arent too many people qualified to run a new type of war on terror or to nation build. It is something alien and foreign to the United States. Its why the Bush Doctrine is such a foreign instrument to the American Conscience.

I watched the interview, and it reminded me of O’Reilly’s interview of Sen. Obama. Tough questions and follow-ups, and I thought both candidates handled themselves well.

Much to my disappointment, Gov. Palin said we would fight Russia only IF Georgia joined Nato, and IF russia attacked Georgia. Pretty weak tea. I was hoping for at least a little hint of a pre-emptive strike. Then again I was crushed to learn Sen. McCain had made up with the Vietnamese, as I was looking forward to us bombing Hanoi. The cool thing is this time they’d never see it coming. ;-)

Left Coast – imho … Palin was in very unfamiliar territory during that interview, she knew the audience would be very large and that she would likely be judged very harshly by the lefties regardless of her answers (typical no-win scenario when dealing with lefties) – those issues alone account for a degree of uncomfortable-ness. There is also no baseline for her ‘typical’ behavior during such an interview. Based on these facts, it is not likely to gain much useful information from her apparent comfort level as it relates to her answers.

That being said, her facial movements seemed to reveal that she was often ‘remembering’ as opposed to ‘creating’ her answers. Her voice, eye contact, etc. indicated that she was being truthful, and was relatively confident most of the time. She was not intimidated by Charlie Gibson or his questions. (NLP 101)

Gotta disagree with Chuck on this, as much as I hate to do so. I was rather disappointed in O’Reilly and Gibson. I thought thay both wasted their entire interviews lobbing softballs.

Hey Compass, your approach is admirable. I hope I’m wrong, but you will probably find that trying to be reasonable with un-reasonable people is not very effective. ;-)

He gave a great speech on the trail. Are his town halls even posted or excerpted? No.

The liberal bloggers have become McCain central. They make people click on his ads, make the world spin around him instead of focusing on our candidate and what he is trying to do. There is ZERO coverage of what Obama is actually doing every day talking tough on the issues. There is ZERO coverage of Biden (who is on the trail but the blogs don’t seem to care or cover him unless he is doing what they think he should be doing. Sadly AFP did cover him this week and people seemed to be too busy saying he was not doing anything to include the link with his forceful comments against McCain. The one time the blogs linked to Biden—when the MSM tried to make a big deal out his answer to a question that made Hillary look bad and he defended her. That was it).

McCain and crew realized early this cycle that they did not have a visible internet presence. So what did they do? They took over the liberal presence, they are manipulating the leading liberal blogs , just as they manipulate the MSM. All to their own advantage. And the blogs have all fallen for this hook, line and sinker. Does no one realize this?

      They are all being played.

And Obama, god bless him, he gets it. As does his team. while everyone whines he keeps at it every day with much much class and like a laser focused on the issues. The problem is not Obama, is that no one wants to follow his lead. Instead they are following McCain-Rove and they don’t even know it.

Lit3Bolt — Thank you so much for the kind words and we’re glad you found us here. As you have learned, we don’t play the “In With The Rest Of The Liberal Blogosphere” game. When they’re absolutely wrong; they’re wrong and we aren’t afraid to seperate ourselves from ‘em either. Liberalism is a “big-tent concept” and too many of our fellow liberal bloggers are echo-chambers for the Democratic talking points of the day — NOT US.

I hadn’t thought about it before, but I do believe you’re correct about Rove controlling my fellow lib bloggers — after all, as a marketer, I’m WELL aware of the concept surrounding “no such thing as bad policity”.

For example, FandB wouldn’t be here, commenting as an active voice from the Right if Rush Limbaugh hadn’t drove him here from his talk radio show. It’s a concept ANY marketer (or master politician felon) like Karl Rove understands THOROUGHLY.

“It was bad enough that Ms. Palin’s performance in the first televised interviews she has done since she joined the Republican ticket was so visibly scripted and lacking in awareness.”

This was my point about the body language and her answers. Whether she has a baseline or not there was incongruency (imho) between the coached projection of confidence via body language (right fist pumping away a la Clinton, fixed stare) and the answers that had no depth of actual experience behind them. In other words the whole thing came across as so “prepped” to cover lack of experience. It was like watching a badly dubbed american movie–everything seemed out of phase.

FandB Just because the source may, by you be considered to be biased, doesn’t always make it untrue. As much as I hate to admit it even O’Reilly can make a point from time to time.

I hope the sump pump isn’t needed for a home in Galveston….

Left Coast: First of all, it’s been a great discussion…
“…coached projection of confidence… and … answers that had no depth of actual experience …” – these seem to be assumptions that are not based on the interview but on preconceived ideas regarding Gov. Palin.
AND “…the whole thing came across as so “prepped”…” – ALL candidates are “prepped” for speeches, interviews, debates, etc. ALWAYS – why should Gov. Palin be held to a different standard?

If we’re completely honest with ourselves, I’m not sure Gov. Palin could have done anything to prevent further attacks by the left. Whatever answers she gave would have been scrutinized, dissected, and spun into some kind of criticism of her worthiness to be VP by an increasingly misogynistic left. That is why doing an interview with Charlie Gibson took courage, which Gov. Palin clearly demonstrated she has.

She may not be as slick as some politicians, but why should we elect smooth talkers (i.e. con men) instead of honest, hard-working, but less well-spoken Americans? Maybe by electing the slicker, smoother talking candidates, we guarantee ourselves an ongoing parade of people with the wrong set of priorities and a lack of character.

BTW, Thanks, not in Galveston. I’m in the midwest and it has been raining constantly for days, things are starting to flood – just a precautionary maneuver.
