First things first — “Sarah Barracuda”? Why don’t I, as a former classmate of Sarah’s remember that one? Nothing personal; I just don’t remember anybody in middle school calling Sarah Palin “Sarah Barracuda”. Anyway, onto the point…
Turns out, according to TMZ, Heart® sisters, founders, and singer-songwriters Ann and Nancy Wilson who actually wrote and performed the original recording have issued a “cease-and-desist” letter to the RNC because they’re, well, as TMZ puts it, “PISSED“. Señor J. Sidney McCain of Arizona Panama’s campaign had chosen the song without first being courteous enough to contact the musicians for their permission FIRST. As a fellow professional musician, I’d be torqued off, too, frankly. Then again, that’s pretty typical of a Washington “Insider Repubican”, too, isn’t it? Just take what you want and “let them eat cake” is their mantra, so why be surprised?
On the other hand, as a former classmate of Sarah Palin’s in middle school, I must just suppose the “Sarah Barracuda” stuff started sometime after I migrated (legally, of course — “Panama John” apparently OBJECTS to legal immigration) North to Glennallen from Wasilla to attend high school with her “highschool sweetheart?“, Todd Palin. Before she became Governor Sarah Palin, I simply knew her as “Sarah Heath”; that cute little, QUIET (back then), FRIENDLY (back then) brunette, as did everybody else I knew back in those days. But hey — let’s take a quick break for a moment for a “PSA” -slash- quick GTL™ RANT, shall we?

To all these folks who keep contacting me for interviews due to the fact my brother and I are the ONLY two people on Earth who can rightfully claim we were classmates of both Sarah and Todd Palin — I do NOT do live interviews, thank you very much, and I’m not about to give you any “dirt“. Despite my political differences with the Palins and their new boss, Señor J. Sidney McCain, we’re not playing “tabloid” here. Any “dirt” I could give would be even more classless than the so-called “dirt” on “First Dude”, Todd, for getting a DWI in Dillingham, Alaska more than 20 years ago. In other words, GROW UP, PLEASE.
To all these folks who keep contacting me, claiming to be former classmates of mine as well of one or another of the Palins, it’s funny how so few of you have names I would recognize; particularly when there were about 20-something people in our classes. These were SMALL towns, VERY small, and we knew the names of the children attending kindergarten as well as those in our own classes. While this (now transferred) Mobile, Alabamian appreciates the few legitimate emails from my former classmates of Alaska, I REFUSE to answer any email from any visitor with a name I don’t recognize. Females; might I suggest you give your maiden names? While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being reunited with a few “long-lost pals”, I’m not answering generic “Who are you? I also graduated with Todd and/or Sarah” emails with names like “Surge McJacobs” when I know damned WELL there was no “Surge McJacobs’” in my graduating class of twenty-three.
Okay, back to the basics now that I’ve said my piece on that rather irritating crappola, most-likely ALL of it on behalf of either scammers, Mainstream Media diggers, or both. Born at night? Absolutely. Last night? HARDLY…

I assume you’d all like some of that “GOP Insider Info” I’m privvy to, would you? Well, here it is, and it comes directly from that infamous (he’ll laugh when he sees that word) “GOP Insider” — Sarah Palin’s politics are fairly extreme, correct? I.E., her views on “no abortion under ANY circumstance”, “censorship” and “abstinence ONLY education” in the public skewells, for example. He tells me this is just the tip of the proverbial “iceberg”. The GOP is in severe damage-control mode over what he suggests will be even MORE “Extremist Right” positions to be aired over the next week to a week-and-a-half or so. Remember you read it here FIRST, as you did months ago about the Sarah Palin nomination long before anybody else had heard it was a DISTINCT possiblility. That said, we now shall move onto the Señor J. Sidney McCain speech…

I’m sorry, Señor — I’m a “combat veteran” myself and I do NOT believe that qualifies me for the presidency. In fact, you should NEVER vote for me if I ever got a wild hair up my derriere to run for the presidency — I’ve got PTSD and IF what Señor J. Sidney McCain and his buddy says is all true about his stay in the “Hanoi Hilton” — there is NO WAY he can be “alright“. Worse yet, as COULD be evidenced by the fact that only ONE fellow “Hanoi Hilton customer” keeps verifying his stories, what if so many OTHER fellow “Hanoi Hilton customers” are correct in THEIR dissent against the recollections of The Elder(LY) Statesman, Señor McCain? If you want to stay “fair and balanced“, might I refer you to Vietnam Vets Against Juan McCain, or are you too frightened to visit? After all, there ARE two or more sides to every story, correct?
Do not get me wrong here — I’m NOT saying Señor McCain isn’t a “patriot”. On the other hand, I never claimed that of John F. Kerry or President “Surge” W. Bush either. In the case of Senator John F. Kerry, he brought the Swift Boating on himself by claiming to be such a “HERO”, as is J. Sidney McCain, too. If there is something I cannot STAND, it’s somebody who must keep people focused on their “servitude” when “servitude” is something one does without the “left hand knowing what the right hand is doing”, and that goes for Barry Obama as well, who keeps playing the “Community Organizer” card himself.
Folks, we are all intelligent enough to recognize a REAL “Hero” when we see one and they’re NOT the ones thumping their chests either.

I have an announcement to make. Not that I have been posting here long enough to even be known but I wanted to share this tidbit of information.
I have been visiting Blogs for about 6 months now. Mostly political blogs. Right and left and stuff in between.
The absolute hate, anger, anguish, hostility and downright ugliness on all sides has actually depressed me. I am a very optimistic person who always finds the best in every thing and look for reasons to succeed instead of reasons to fail.
Since visiting blogs of all persuasions I have become pessimistic, negative and rather depressed with the state of our nation. I hear nothing but negativity no matter who is speaking.
I hear no we cant, its too hard, America sucks. The war sucks, Bush Sucks, Obama Sucks, Hillary sucks, Palin sucks, McCain sucks, Biden sucks……congress sucks, Blacks suck, whites suck, the world sucks………
So without further ado I am going to be leaving blog land. Its no longer worth expending the emotional energy here and in the future. Because no matter who is elected the end result will be the same. The only result will be which side is the MOST Angry.

I can appreciate what your saying, but don’t lose heart. I’ve had to cut waaaayyy back on my Daily Kos and Rush Limbaugh for pretty much the same reason. However, this site and a few others actually have a fairly civil debate between all sides. IMHO, the worst mistake an American who loves their country can make is to retreat to one of the many “echo chambers of ideas” that exist today. Between the internet, cable channels, and our real-life social network, an American could completely insulate themselves from our countrymen with differing opinions. I find this appalling, if no other reason than it’s dull.
So, come back. If you need a fix of sunshine, I’ll play nice with the lefties, or failing that, you can read GTL’s or F&B’s stuff and pretend they’re sane.

As for the civil discussion here, it’s really simple: personal attacks against anyone other than myself is a “no-no” — i.e., attack the message, not the messenger, and it’s enforced as rigidly as time allows. You’ve gotta at least give us that much, eh?

That being said, Neocon, I agree with all of the above.
The one thing that DaveM ever said that made any sense was that if he just hung around the Kos or some other liberal site, it was just like talking to himself. I feel the same way about GTL’s blog – I can see a wide range of opinions here, but if I just hung around some rightie blog, it would be like talking to myself (well, maybe except for the whole antichrist thingy
).
Internet blogs like this one are just the beginning of a new way that people will communicate, spread new ideas, and find new ways to solve problems. There will be ups and downs along the way, but the people who are here now and in the future will help influence the way the whole thing develops and evolves. When it comes to real change, to sort of paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, and with apologies since this is a “Gun Toting” site; The pen, or in this case, the keyboard, is mightier than the gun.
So stick around, but fasten your seat belt, it’s election season and this will be a rough one.
