On Going After Family Members, Enough Is Enough Says Obama

Okay, before we get into one of the most serious issues facing America today, let’s go ahead and get the Palins and their “Troopergate”, First Dude, Todd’s “DUIgate” and daughter Bristol’s (and mommy Palin’s) “Preggersgate: out of the way:

“Preggersgate” has been DEBUNKED — Source: Reuters (Yahoo! News). The Palins’ seventeen-year old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant; mommy really DID have baby Trig despite his having Downs Syndrome, END OF STORY. Why isn’t anybody going after Barack Obama’s Veepstakes winner, Joe Biden’s family? After all, I’m sure there’s some “dirt” to be dug on his very cute ole’ mother if one wants to “go there”.

Let us not forget the campaign for Señor J. Sidney McCain of Arizona Panama CLASSLESSLY went for the juggular of Barry Obama’s wife, Michelle for her supposedly “anti-American” comments in one of their tasteless campaign ads not so long ago, so I doubt it has a damned thing to do with “morality” on the part of the “War Hero”. Instead, I would suspect he Panama John has decided to avoid any more negative fallout for going after family members, including those of the Biden clan.

“Troopergate” and “DUIgate” involving First Dude, Todd Palin, isn’t a TRUE campaign issue; particularly in the case of the latter. Who gives a rat’s behind if Mr. Palin got busted in Dillingham, Alaska for a DUI when he was twenty-two years old? Apparently, a lot of people do because this blog is receiving TONS of search requests for “Todd Palin DUI DWI” right now, so there ya’ go — it’s true. Satisfied? Glad I could help.

Excuse me, but may I enquire what in the hell this has to do with Sarah Palin’s ability to govern? Go after some of her zany stances on some of the issues such as willing to MANDATE rape victims carrying the children of the rapist to full-term. Now THAT’S worthy of note and it’s relevant to the thought of a McCain-Palin ticket inheriting the White House they seek. In fact, it’s a downright SCARY thought, which is bound to drive even many conservative women away from voting Panama John into office. And, abstinence ONLY education? Another key issue I have with the point of view of my former classmate, Sarah Palin. THOSE are the issues, folks.

Even Barack Obama shares my disdain for both the campaign of Señor J. Sidney for classlessly suggesting the Senator from Illinois is fueling the fire (a “fire” he himself has been trying to douse for months since Señor McCain first started going after his wife, Michelle) AND for my fellow “Lefty” bloggers who believe it’s both “relevant” and “cool” to shred the family members of political opponents.

His statement, according to the first-referenced (Reuters) article:

OBAMA OFFENDED

Speaking to reporters in Monroe, Michigan, Obama said he was offended by the McCain aide’s statement and that he considered people’s families off-limits.

“We don’t go after people’s families. We don’t get them involved in the politics. It’s not appropriate and it’s not relevant. Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they’d be fired,” Obama said.

Obama also said: “This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories.” …”

AMEN, Senator “O”. We leave this stuff to the tasteless, but thankfully, STILL CONSTITUTIONAL 527′s and we bloggers. This tabloid crappola has NO BUSINESESS emanating from supposed “Statesmen” and “Stateswomen” who wish to govern the People, which is why I STILL have a serious problem with Señor J. Sidney McCain for going after Michelle Obama like he did. Shame on you for that, Señor.

Speaking of “issues”, I’ve noticed we have yet to hear from Senator McSurge on the following issue being reported by The Washingon Post:

Addicted to Sex

When“… sexual addiction has no definition in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV), the document psychologists use to pin down mental-health diagnoses. But over the past 30 years, he says, the study of behavioral addictions such as gambling and excessive shopping has shed light on sexual addiction. …”

(Snip!)

“… MRI-based research has shown that the same brain receptors that light up for cocaine and amphetamines also light up for sex, which suggests a neurobiological basis for the addiction. …”

(Snip!)

“… The good news is that sex addiction is highly treatable… “… Usually men and women are treated together in groups, where, he says, “they can dissect the rationalizations, denials, and minimizations of the behaviors’ impact on others.” …

Serious “bidness”, eh? And just why would I be interested in what Señor J. Sidney would have to say on the issue? Obviously, because he’s not only an impulsive gambler, he has recently shown warnings signs of sexual addiction — otherwise, why else would he offer up a topless Cindy McCain to be ogled by a bunch of drunken, partying bikers at a nudie contest?

Now, see — these are the REAL “issues”, folks — not the personal, private lives of the candidates or every word one of their spouses utters around a hot mic. Leave that stuff to we bloggers.

Just a couple of little nits to pick here. Michelle Obama has gone out on the stump for Sen. Obama. To my way of thinking, that makes your statements fair political game. Had she stayed out of the fray, no one would have had any business bringing her in.
Secondly, there is a world of difference between using someone’s public comments against them, versus going all National Enquirer on their personal life, most especially when said person is not even the actual candidate.
All of that said, Sen. Obama reminded me why I seriously considered voting for him. His handling of these deranged leftists was genuinely refreshing. Geez, what’s the world coming to? Between GTL and Sen. Obama, the left is showing some class. ;-)

    • Neocon

I posted quite extensively at The Moderate Voice…..Name should be changed to The Left Voice, but thats a discussion for another forum.

It was painfully obvious that the Democrats were prepared with their bag of scum on every single candidate who might be nominated by McCain. Within minutes. Minutes of her being announced the Blogs filled up with not questions but smears.

Her son is really her daughters. Todd is a pedophile. The governor flip flopped on the bridge to nowhere, Troopergate.

Barak Obama should just change their campaign slogan to “Women Suck!!”

I do not question the need to vet someone, challenge her qualifications but the preceeding 72 hours before Obama feigned his outrage at the insinuation that his campaign was in someway responsible is a joke of the highest magnitude.

Obama waited 72 hours to denounce going after Palin personally. Socially. He simply let the smears roar unabated until they had done their job. Smear the governors integrity and good name and then and only then did he step in and say something.

WOMAN SUCK………..thats a great campaign slogan for the Barak Obama campaign this year.

    • The GTL™

I have to go with Chuck on this, Neo — I really don’t think Obama was behind the smears and I was very impressed with his not one, but now multiple denunciations on the topic.

To a liberal, some of Sarah’s governing ideas alone offer more than enough fodder… i.e.:

No abortion PERIOD! Not even if the woman was brutally raped. Since I assume all three of us are men, imagine your daughter being raped and you are being forced by the gub’mint to be the proud grandpappy of the child of the brute who raped your daughter…

Abstinence ONLY education in the skewells! Woah! Abstinence ONLY???? Like, that’s gonna fly…

See — Libs don’t NEED to get personal with her or her First Dude :-)

    • Denise

I am a moderate Democrat and as a Democrat I am disgusted at the liberal bloggers and the Democratic Party. Children of the nominees should be off limit period! The nastiness of the rumors and the smears this past weekend is going to backfire on the Democrats – It alienate Clinton supporters and as one watching the attacks on Palin as an attack on women. I have decided to vote for McCain/Palin for that reason and that the Democratic Party has been taken over by the uber left wing fanatics that care not what is good for this country but what is good their own agenda.

    • Dick

While I deplore email smear campaigns – the right-wingers engage in them all of the time – I can understand why some on the left fight fire with fire. I don’t know that it helps, though. However, it did seem to work well for the Swift-boaters when they attacked Kerry. For those who simply think it has to be done, let me suggest that you check the facts to make sure you are not spreading lies.

    • Chuck

      Dick

Since you brought up Swiftboat Vets:
Shortly upon returning to the US after his Vietnam tour, the future Sen. Kerry said in front of Congress that his comrades were baby killers and rapists. He really did say that, it’s on the record and everything. Now, I don’t know about you, but if someone made that comment about me as his comrade in arms, I’d be pissed. What you had with the Swiftboat vets is a little payback for a very ill-conceived comment, albeit 30 years later. So, the question is begged, who did Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter manage to piss off that the crazy Left( not to be confused with good and patriotic Left) and their MSM cohort feel the need to vindicate?

      GTL

Justs so you know, I completely agree with you over Gov. Palin on the abortion issue. I don’t really do social conservatism well, just enough to avoid being kicked out of the rightwing deathsquad. I like Gov. Palin for her fiscal conservative side, which means a willingness to question every government expenditure, and the guts to make the whole thing balance out.

This teen pregnancy issue is MINOR compared to Mccain’s judgement being questioned…I think more problems are coming for the GOP that we know nothing about. Back to Mccain, the Houston Chronicle (located in Bush Country), has an interesting story:

Just having these conversations tell us that all this media hoopla pertaining to all the allegations are just getting started. It was just a matter of time before the Huffington Post caught wind of this nasty dirt on Sarah:

    • Neocon

Obama did not have to have a personal hand in this. His campaign did not have to have a personal hand in this for it to reflect upon Obama.

He is the LEADER of the democratic party. Remember how they screamed that Bush should clam up the swiftboaters and did not. Well everyone learned their lesson. Just wait for 72 hours now and then speak up.

Laughing and gloating in the back rooms while the smear roars unabated until its done its dirty work.

I am beyond outraged that they have smeared a woman for literally being a woman. They would be screaming racism if this had been a Black Sarah Palin. But because she JUST a woman that makes the sexism OK.

I was secretly hoping for a Democratic thumping of the GOP this year but after this Sarah Palin thing I now hope the Democrats have their asses handed to them in November over this. However I am a realist and we all know that the GOP is so hopelessly screwed up that they will prevail with ease.

I have said before and Ill repeat it here. I believe McCain knows hes going to win. He selected Palin so as to not bring down the best and the brightest of the up and coming in the GOP.

So to make a long story short. Obama knew and he said nothing and the polls show that it garnered him 3 or 4 more points. Barry Obama. Win at all costs and pretend your on the high road.

    • Neocon

      Correction.

I believe that McCain thinks he is NOT going to win and therefore that is why he brought Sarah Palin on board with him.

She is the GOP sacrificial goat this year.

    • JerrySpringerLivesinGOP

      I hear ya Neocon.

That’s like saying 90% of African American Citizens would vote for Jesse Jackson for President because he’s black. HA…I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. The GOP is in a bind. They want to make it Sexist sooo badly and it’s not the case. THE GOP correspondents are getting hammered right now on the political channels quite easily…they are stammering when Mccain should be re-inventing himself at the convention.

However, we can TALK all day but the truth is we’ll know in November :)

    • Fandb

Come on Springer fan, that’s not really the best the dem’s can come up with is it? Your guy has logged over 160 No Votes in congress (Present? What the heck does that mean? Many of those votes were on important issues and he voted “Present”? WTF?) And, he voted in favor of criminal penalties against nurses (or others) who attempt to save botched abortions that result in live births. Those nurses (and others) are expected to stand by and watch these tiny little helpless defenseless Human Beings die. That’s your Barack (the antichrist) Obama in a nutshell for you.

In other words, Obama isn’t fit to carry Gov. Palin’s briefcase into a meeting, much less lead this country.

    • JerrySpringerLivesinGOP

haha…I was just asking the same question about the GOP correspondents including, Cindy Mccain saying that Sarah’s state is right across from Russia so that gives her National Security experience. That’s the best she could come up with.

Too bad you can’t cheerlead the GOP right now…it’s not me you should worry about. It’s your party trying to defend JMAC’s rush to judgement.

Again, we’ll see in November :)

    • Left Coast

The kids are off limits. Period.

    • Fandb

I am certainly not worried about either party, neither of which is “mine.” But, the last time I looked, Cindy McCain wasn’t running for any office.

That aside, however, Sen. McCain’s selection of Gov. Palin for VP is certainly worth cheering about. The dem’s can take the low road on this one all they want, it will only backfire on them.

As you said, we’ll see in November :-)

    • JerrySpringerLivesinGOP

      Yep.

      Country First :)

      Till Then….

    • Neocon

Its one thing to have serious policy and issue disagreements.

But to smear this lady by planting the smear that she did not have her own baby. To suggest the husband is a child molestor. Too attack her daughter for being pregneant, is beyond reasonable and it is the lone reason why I sent the McCain Campaign a 4600 dollar donation today.

Yes I have that much money. No I am not a republican. I was most likely going to vote for Barr but I am now going to vote for McCain even if he says hes a gay/lesbian/hatemongering Sasquatch from outer space.

I am in independent but to treat women like this would be questionable but in the face of how they trashed Hillary during the primary it is apparent that the Democrats have an agenda and it sure does not seem to include women this year.

    • Left Coast

“I am in independent but to treat women like this would be questionable but in the face of how they trashed Hillary during the primary it is apparent that the Democrats have an agenda and it sure does not seem to include women this year.”

But Neocon, didn’t you in another thread tell me that this is just politics? Of course they would trash Hillary at some point. Did you send Kerry 4600 when he got swiftboated? The low road is owned by both parties now. I don’t see how you can reward one over the other.

The kids are still off limits. Period.

    • waylon76

I just want to know the status of his dui. Was he convicted? All I see anywhere is charged. Anybody have real evidence that he pled guilty or was found guilty? Did he plead no contest? I know its a none issue, but I’d like to write the people that supposedly broke this story, no mention of conviction anywhere. Its either to soft or totally BS anyway. We’ve got to call these “reporters” on there sh**y reporting.

    • Neocon

The called Hillary and Bill Racists and they said many sexist things about Hillary. I was angry at that and contemplated sending her money too. But did not. Im really not a big Hillary fan even though I did vote for her Husband.

There is a big difference between POLICY and SMEAR. I will be more then happy to argue policy issues but I will not smear your name. I might call you a righty or a lefty but I will never imply that you personally are this or that in smear tactics to try and win the debate.

They did that to Hillary and they are doing it to Palin.

Its obvious that a new era of democratic smear mongering has immerged from the Democratic party perputrating by Karl Rove and is now being perfected by the democratic party in the “WIN AT ALL COSTS” electioneering politics.

Sad for us all. But by GAWD dont get in their way as they march to the white house.

    • Chuck

      NEO

I completely agree. I’m about at the point to call BS on Sen. Obama for this. If he is genuinely serious about his call for restaint of commentary on the Palin family, there should be some evidence of restaint. If anything, the servile media seem to have taken his statement as a call to action. Makes one wonder how serious any statement made by the Senator may be taken.

    • Left Coast

Its obvious that a new era of democratic smear mongering has immerged from the Democratic party perputrating by Karl Rove and is now being perfected by the democratic party in the “WIN AT ALL COSTS” electioneering politics.

Agreed. Gergen and Bernstein had it right last night when they talked about how angry the country was, each party only framing each other by it’s most extreme elements. If there’s any centrist in any of us and we are willing to look at the bigger picture it’s actually very sad. We have a lot of work to do to unite this country again around the things that a majority of us can at least find some common ground on.
