Will John McCain’s Housing Gaffe Harpoon His Campaign?

Many In The Mainstream Media Are Predicting The McCain Housing Gaffe To Spell The End, But For Barack Obama — NOT Señor McCain…

Mark Halperin says John McCain inability to say how many houses he has reflects poorly upon Barack Obama...Frankly, I’m going to have to agree with Time’s Mark Halperin on this one (Source: Ben of Think Progress). The fact that Panama John McCain has forgotten how many houses he owns reflects quite badly upon Barry Obama, who can, without hesitation, tell you he and his spouse, Michelle, own just one home.

After all, for those of us who, like Barry and Michey-O, own just one home, have OBVIOUSLY failed to take advantage of the multiple opportunites our great Democratic Republic affords us to achieve “The American Dream”. Guilty as charged, dear readers, as are this “Obama” pair as well.

That’s right, I’m ashamed — ashamed, I tell you — to admit I still own just one home and you should be too if you can count all of your homes on just one finger. And what is even more disgusting is the fact many of my fellow bloggers and many folks in the Mainstream Media are jumping into the feeding frenzy like a bunch of hungry sharks over the fact that Señor McCain of (originally) Arizona Panama has forgotten the number of homes he has signed the ownership papers to acquire. It could happen to any of us standing in the man’s shoes — let us not forget:

  • A) The man is VERY old — it’s not nice to pick on the elderly when they tell us they’ll need to be consulting with their staff to tell us how many homes, shoes, dogs, cats, riding lawnmowers, Bentleys, Cadillacs, etc., they hold ownership over.
  • B) We can’t fault a man who has helped establish policies over a seven (?) decade career in the Senate to help ALL heirs to vast fortunes who leave their first wives behind to marry wealthy-beyond-wealthy beer heiresses.
  • Almost as shamefully as the “How many houses do you own, Señor McCain?” trick question (more on that later) the MSM recently pulled on our Panamanian-American former POW hero was the time not so many moons ago when this same MSM jumped all over McCain for daring a bunch of blue collar union guys to pick lettuce for fifty bucks an hour in defense of his open borders plan. “This just proves he’s out of touch”, screamed the MSM. No, he’s NOT “out of touch” — I tell you, Señor McCain is PERFECTLY in touch with all other Americans in the same boat he himself is. And, that is what is important here, especially to those who make up the Republican base. “After all…”, they point out, and rightfully so — “Any of US can dump our lovely wives for wealthy beer empiresses whom we can volunteer to enter into topless biker babe contests as well should the opportunity present itself.” And folks, WHO can argue with that logic?

But back to the “How many houses do you own, Señor McCain?” fiasco — please — SOMEBODY — tell me the difference between his inability to just jump out and please everybody off the cuff by answering a trick question, which was really nobody’s “bidness” in the first place. To use a very applicable analogy, just the other day, my dear old dad (not really “old” in the same sense Panama John is “old” — he’s much younger than the career senator is) asked me “Son, how many guns do you own?” and I must admit, I, too, had to refer him to my staff for the answer and hey — I’m not even close to HALF Señor McCain’s age either. I wasn’t sure if I owned seven, or eight guns (it was the former, by the way, after my staff and I conducted our inventory)…

So, see — it could happen to anybody. And I agree with Halperin — for Barry Obama to just jump right on out there with the answer (i.e., “just one house”) — I’ll just say it again; it reflects quite poorly upon the Senator from Illinios. It was almost as if he was making fun of the old codger from Panama and it clearly demonstrates a troubling, “insensitive” side to the man. NOT GOOD, Senator Obama… not good at all, Sir.

Last but not least, let’s get back to that “trick question” comment I had made earlier. Remember not so very long ago during the Bill Clinton -slash- Monica Lewisky scandal, how the Right had tried to trick President Clinton into accepting the guilt for Ms. Lewinsky’s raping of him in the Oval Office? “It depends on what the definition of is IS”, the president told the courts and rightfully SO. The point is, Señor McCain had a DUTY to pause before answering, because folks — there are so many definitions of the word “House” out there, it isn’t even funny. If you clicked upon the courtesy link I just provided you; you can find you, TOO might just own a ton of houses as well. Just something to think about, folks.

Its not funny picking on senile Old men. Obama would agree and thats why he nominated one of his own. Every campaign needs a token Senile Old man if were talking about politics.

GTL – I find it very, very difficult to believe that you, or anyone else who visits your blog, own only one home. You must own more than one, maybe you’ve just forgotten how many you really own.

I will respectfully have to forward the number of houses I own to the staff at the bank that foreclosed on my one and only home… Bastid’s took my dog too!

All fun aside, Obama was not the one that asked the question! Politico did and the senior Senator proved his memory out with almost a Homer Simpson quote.

Well, I don;t think it will reflect on him as much as good old Joe Bidan,in his mansion, saying that he and his wife sit at the kitchen table and talk about how they will make ends meet will reflect on Barrys campaign. Just like us common folk do.

First for the author this is Sean from applebees. Its a good thing to note that MCcain is so old that his memory to some extent is probably failing. However this is another b/s talking point that they would like us to think about instead of looking at the important stuff. It’s a political distraction. Now from just having an hour or so chat with you I understand you are just making a crack at the two’s expense. We need to worry about their foreign and domestic policies more than who has the biggest house, or he doesnt know how many he has, or I only have one so that makes me not and elitist. Obama’s real estate deal is a drop in the bucket compared to the Keating Five scandal. McDirtbag should still be in prison for that. All Obama and his new/old attack dog Biden have to do is tell the truth about McCriminal and they should be able to convince enough undecided voters to get past the voter intimidation, rigged electronic voting machines, bogus election tallies, and other illegitimate political machinations the Rethuglicans consistantly employ to maintain power. We’ll see, though. When you combine the all the truly stupid and uninformed Americans into the same group as the greedy and morally bankrupt, you get a pretty large group called the GOP. These properties are not mutually exclusive. Many republicans are both. And yes, the ones in Washington tend towards the immoral whereas the ones in middle America are honest, friendly folk who just don’t know s41t.

You only own 7 guns? Slacker. Hell, my wife had more than that when I met her. Now she has considerably more, because she asks for guns for Christmas, and suprises me with guns for no discernable reason. The rest of you mere mortals may now stand in awe of me.;-)

      G
Let me see if I have this right. The entirety of the GOP is at least stupid, and at most stupid and morally bankrupt. Does this happen only if you join the GOP, or does this happen simply by voting for a Republican? I’m kinda curious as I’ve never belonged to the GOP, but have voted for a Republican on occasion. As for stealing elections, what happened in 1992,1996,and 2006? Was this because they put the stupid ones in charge of vote fraud?

The ‘Keating Five’ thing is a non-issue as far as it concerns McCain. He was cleared of any wrongdoing, unlike several of the DEMOCRATS who were reprimanded by the Senate. Even some of those reprimanded were later appointed by President Clinton to the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. Kind of ironic when you think about it.

Obama’s real estate deals with Rezko are another matter, but the truth will probably never see the light of day since Obama* has the Chicago and Illinois democrat machine covering up for him.

As far as the Incorrect and Inaccurate allegations regarding vote fraud, we here in Chicago have a saying… “Vote Early, Vote Often.” That’s the way the democrats have maintained their power for decades. :-)

I suppose it’s possible that at a local level, the rotten Republican candidate was better than the dirty Democrat, and a Republican vote made sense at the time, but on a grand scale, the Republican power brokers don’t give a damn about the average American. I was going to say you and me, but I have no idea how wealthy you are. Me, I’m disabled and broke. The leaders of the Republican party love America, it’s just that their view of America is that it consists of the thousand or so richest familes, the five hundred or so richest companies, an army of expendable soldiers, an expendable workforce, and expendable resources. The Democrats, however, who I must admit are frequently just as dirty as the Republicans, share a view of America as being about the people of America, and the land. The people are not interchangeble cogs in the corporate machine. The economy exists to serve us, not the other way around, and the environment is a fragile and delicate garden that needs constant nurturing in order for it to take care of our descendents. The Republican view point is that the very last redwood tree would make great patio furniture at one of McFilthy’s countless mansions.

The mainstream media, which laughably calls itself the liberal media so often that stupid people believe it, is owned and controlled by a small collection of conservative and ultra-conservative corporations that are slowly, but steadily, taking over everything. That is the definition of fascism; corporate control. Republicanism = fascism. one in the same. Avote for a Repulican is tantamount to a vote for Mussolini.

The day my wife surprises me in THAT way with a gun will be my last on earth, because she’s REALLY good with one, and I’ve slowed down in the last 10 years or so. :-)

      G

I own a small business, and I’m broke. The difference is that in my experience, it has been the policies of Democratic administrations that have caused my woes. Not that I don’t think Republicans would have caused problems, albiet in a different fashion.

Personally, I’ve discovered that both Republicans and Democrats are pretty nice folks, at least on the individual level. I meet both of ‘em everyday, at the gas station, grocery store, and probation office. They all love their country, and mangle both the “Pledge of Allegiance” and “The Star Spangled Banner” with equal fervor. It’s rather unfortunate that both parties have a nasty habit of putting forth their largest pricks as candidates.

The problem is the parties don’t give a damn about what their liberal or conservative constituents want and they deserve (both of them) the erosion of voters among their ranks that they’re getting these days. That’s why I have a hard time blasting on voters who independently lean one way or the other — they outnumber those by far who fly the donkey or elephant flags with pride… just not so much in the Blogospheres :-)

As I’ve said many times before, amen brother. Like with many other things, I think the solution relies on us, down here at the plebe level. I have to respectfully disagree. I believe completely in personal responsibility. WE are responsible for the people we elect and send to Washington, or to our state and local governments for that matter. There is no “They”, it is all “We”. We are not sending the right message to those of us who are currently in power. We settle for voting for ‘the lesser of two evils’ rather than demanding, or becoming, someone better.

It is too easy to blame the democrats or the republicans for our troubles. “They don’t care about the people” so my life is bad. Or, “Their policies hurt small businesses” so my life is bad. Everyone has to take responsibility for their life and what they have done, or not done, with the gifts and talents God gave them.

Rather than expending our energy, time, and efforts complaining about what ‘the man’ has done to keep us down, we need to expend that energy effecting the changes we seek. To paraphrase Mahatma Ghandi; ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’

You’re so right, F&B. To paraphrase paraphrase Barrack Obama, “We are the change we’ve been waiting for.” I’m no Hillary fan, but her speech last night was pretty damn good. No way, No how, No McCain!
