Sir McFlipFlop Flip-Flops Again — He Was FOR Affirmative Action Before He Was Against It

Panamanian “Natural Born U.S. Citzen” And Vietnam War Hero, Señor Panama John McCain, SUDDENLY Takes Anti-Affirmative Action Stance After Years Of Activism In Favor Of Racial Quotas

John McCain has flipflopped again -- he was against affirmative action and now he is for it...Go ahead, LAUGH at our war hero for having the INTEGRITY to review his past, RIGID stances on certain, potentially DIVISIVE issues and say to himself, “Self — I’ve been Oh-So-Wrong for all these years. The other side of the aisle had it right and I’m man enough to abandon my previously ‘cement-clad’ position on the topic at hand.” Everybody’s “Dream Senator” would have the GUTS to do this, correct? Unfortunately for Señor McCain though, We, The People, are much smarter than this — We refuse to fall for the ole’ “I was FOR it before I was AGAINST it” trick. Just type “John Kerry for before I was against” into your favorite Internets search engine for more information on that topic…

Back now? Good. Welcome back, dear readers. Now, let’s turn to ABC’s Political Radar for the latest flip-flop by Señor McCain; this time, on Affirmative Action:

McCain Reverses Himself on Affirmative Action

ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Kevin Kilbane Report: During a “This Week” interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos John McCain reversed himself on affirmative action and endorsed for the first time a proposed state ballot measure which would end race and gender-based affirmative action in his home state of Arizona.

“I support it,” McCain declared when asked about the referendum. “I do not believe in quotas… I have not seen the details of some of these proposals. But I’ve always opposed quotas.”

McCain has long opposed quotas but his new support for ending affirmative action programs which stop short of quotas puts him at odds not only with Democratic rival Barack Obama but also with the Arizona senator’s own views in 1998.

Back then, when the legislature in McCain’s home state of Arizona considered sending the voters a measure to end affirmative action, McCain spoke out against it calling it “divisive.”

McCain’s campaign does not dispute that the Arizona senator spoke out against the 1998 effort to end affirmative action in his home state.

When asked about the apparent change in position, a McCain spokesman was not able to distinguish the two measures.

“I do not have a firm enough grasp on the historical and relevant context of McCain’s remark in 1998 to give you the pushback that this question deserves,” McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told ABC News. …”

Allow me to be perfectly BLUNT. We, as a nation, have arrived to the point where Affirmative Action could really help boost our productivity, but do not be fooled — A/A should start with economic standing and race should be completely left out of the equation. For example, a “black guy” is expected to win the presidency at this time; POINT MADE.

You see, for the shortest route home from work, I must drive daily through Section 8 housing projects, and I don’t just see a bunch of black children playing on the streets; I see a bunch of POOR children; all skin tones represented. Señor McCain once saw things the same way I do, but not any longer; he has decided in order to win the ticket to the Oval Office, he must transform himself to become the “white” version of a “Jeremiah Wright” or a “Jesse Jackson”. Yeah, we GET IT, Senator McCain. Pit “blacks” against “whites” for personal and/or political gain. We’ve become not only accustomed to the tactic, we’ve become IMMUNE to it.

“Barry” on the other hand, always the one to take the moral high ground, had this to say in response (from the same article):

“… On Sunday, at a gathering of journalists of color in Chicago, Obama expressed disappointment that McCain has changed his position of affirmative action. “I think in the past he had been opposed to these kinds of Ward Connerly referenda or initiatives as divisive. And I think he’s right. You know, the truth of the matter is, these are not designed to solve a big problem, but they’re all too often designed to drive a wedge between people, ” Obama said to a question asked from an audience of journalists. …”

(Snip!)

“… The presumptive Democratic nominee has spoken in favor of developing income-based affirmative action programs. But he also supports maintaining race-based affirmative action programs and has come out against the proposed Arizona ballot measure ending affirmative action. He has also come out against an identical measure which has qualified for the ballot in Colorado as well as one that has been proposed in Nebraska. …”

I’m sorry, folks, but ANYTHING ‘race-based’ at this point is obsolete. Perhaps, you don’t have the [dis]pleasure of traveling through Section 8 neighborhoods every day like I do. If that’s your situation, you get a “pass”. On the other hand, those of us who must know FULL-WELL discrimation in the 21st Century doesn’t have a DAMNED thing to do with the color of one’s skin. It has EVERYTHING to do with one’s sixth degree of separation from the “haves” versus the “have nots” in our country today.

Other fantastic blogger opinions…

  • H/T yet again to MemeOrandum for the pull
  • Andrew Sullivan of The Daily Dish (The Atlantic):

“… hasn’t he acknowledged that AA itself is divisive? It probably wouldn’t be tactful for Obama to backtrack on his opposition to Connerly’s initiatives, but Obama could respond by making some sort of grand gesture in favor of reforming AA. I’ve always thought that Obama, with his symbolic story and “Yes We Can!” rhetoric, will be the president to end racial preferences (a policy that has to end at some point, whether you support it or not). …”

    The Democratic Daily:

“… McCain is one of those people who are flat out so dumb that they think that we lost in Viet Nam just because we left there before shedding the last available drop of American blood. …”
