Largest Approval Decline For “New Democratic Congress” Unsurprisingly Comes From Democratic Voters; Also Just As Unsurprisingly, Republican Voter Base’s Approval Of “New Democratic Congress” Shoots Up

CLICK TO ENLARGE -- Nancy Pelosi Harry Reid Steny Hoyer and their New Democratic Congress get thumbs up from Republicans and thumbs down from Democrats in latest Gallup Poll -- fourteen-percent approval rating overall...Well, well — if it were the (so-called) “New Democratic” Congress’ intention to calm the fears of the Police-State-loving Republican voter base by caving into their demands for such “G.O.P. Greatest Hits” as telecom immunity; data-mining, eavesdropping and wiretapping Americans without warrants; providing President “Surge” Dubya Bush with an open checkbook for his “Big Oil and Nation Buildin’ Bidness” in Iraq, and to completely alienate their Liberal voting base — folks — it’s WORKING according to today’s Gallup Poll findings.

Really, how can a Republican NOT appreciate the likes of Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Steny Hoyer, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest of these buffoons? You want an open checkbook and no withdrawal deadline for the war in Iraq? No problem — BOOM, there ‘ya GO! You want a Police State firmly in place so those “terr’ists” amongst us can be caught without the gub’mint needing to bother with those bothersome court-issued warrants? No problem — BOOM, there ‘ya GO! You don’t want the telecoms to be held responsible for allowing the president to rummage through all of your personal calling records? No problem — BOOM, there ‘ya GO! No new taxes and even so-called “economic stimulus checks? Again, I ask — how can a Republican NOT just absolutely LOVE these guys and gals? I’d almost swear the (the Democratic majority) ARE Republicans — “closet” Republicans who like to argue with the “proud” Republicans as if they disagree, but come vote time — BOOM, there ‘ya GO!

Lessee what happened here — from The Gallup site:

PRINCETON, NJ — Congress’ job approval rating has dropped five percentage points over the past month, from 19% in June to 14% in July, making the current reading the lowest congressional job approval rating in the 34-year Gallup Poll history of asking the question. The previous low was 18%, last reached in May. …

(Snip!)

“… Still, the 14% approval rating is extraordinary. Approval of Congress has fallen below 20% only six times in the 34 years Gallup has measured it. Including the latest reading, four of those have come in the past year: in July, June, and May 2008, and in August 2007. …”

(Snip!)

“… The most recent decline comes almost exclusively from Democrats, whose approval of Congress fell from 23% in June to 11% in July, while independents’ and Republicans’ views of Congress did not change much. As a result, Republicans are now slightly more likely than Democrats to approve of the job the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing (19% vs. 11%). …”

(Snip!)

“… The 11% of Democrats now approving of Congress is slightly lower than Gallup found in 2006, toward the end of the Republican-led 109th Congress. … – [Emphasis mine]

So, let’s get this straight. The Democratic voting base’s approval of THIS “New Democratic” Congress is even lower than their approval of the “Old Republican” Congress of 2006 — the same scandalous, big-spending, “Old Republican” Congress, which brought us war, pedophilia and toe-tapping incidents, oh — and the “Bridge To Nowhere”? If this shouldn’t serve as one helluva “wakeup call” to these so-called “Democratic” Congresspersons and Senators, I don’t know what will. Oh — wait — perhaps, I do, INDEED know how to get their attention. It’s called…

VOTING OUT THE INCUMBENTS.

    James Joyner (Outside The Beltway):

“… Yes, Democrats were happier with the Republican Congress that got thrown out on its ear in 2006 than they are with their own leaders in charge! Presumably, this is an artifact of greater general dissatisfaction with the state of the country than with Reid, Pelosi, and company per se. Still, an absolutely amazing finding. …”

    Doctor Steven Taylor (PoliBlog™):

“… While Republican voters may think that this means that there is a good deal of electoral wrath out there to go around (the Dems run the Congress, after all), voters can’t vote against Congress (and they tend to like their own Representatives and Senators, even as they love to loathe the collective whole on Capitol Hill). What they can do is collectively respond to the party in the White House, and as such, these types of numbers are not good news for John McCain. …”

    “… It’s all Bush’s fault!”

    QandO:

“… As for your children and grandchildren, tell ‘em to suck it up. Pelosi and company have a White House to win and ethics and promises can take a flying leap when that’s in play.

Now you know why a 14% approval rating is way to high for this bunch. …”

Warren Street (Blue Girl, Red State):

“… When has Congress ever been popular? Why, then, do incumbents have such huge advantages in keeping their jobs? Perhaps it’s because of the feeling that my Congressman is a great guy–YOUR Congressman is a perverted fiend who wants to sell out America! …”
