UnLikely, “Mismatched Duo” To Tour Iraq Together
Hey, let’s not read TOO much into this trip into Iraq by Barack Obama and former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE). The “viral blogosphere” and the MSM is pondering and pontificating the possibility “Barry” might be courting the “maverick” (no, not a “maverick” in a John McCain sense of the term) Republican from The Great State of Nebraska for his currently open running mate position. Can we say “old news”?
Look, I covered this back in March for those who might just be newer readers of this blog. But — HEY — this is “shocking, breaking NEWS” today, apparently. Am I surprised at the “latest rumor”? YOU be the judge…
From The GTL™ — March 2nd, 2008:
“… Senior advisers confirmed that Hagel, a highly decorated Vietnam war veteran and one of McCain’s closest friends in the Senate, was considered an ideal candidate for defence secretary. Some regard the outspoken Republican as a possible vice-presidential nominee… ” — TimesOnline (UK)
Folks, is anything really “new” or even “news” anymore? This Obama-Hagel “marriage” has been “old news” for MONTHS. Yet, here it is again; many moons later; dominating the “viral” blogosphere and mainstream media headlines again.
Didn’t we all know deep down this was bound to happen? Barack Obama foreshadowed this “nooz” months ago and frankly, It’s an ingenious move by the Democratic front-runner to rope in the MANY anti-war Republicans out there who cannot fathom backing another four to eight more years of CHAOS in the Middle East, courtesy of Señor “Panama John” McCain. While NewsWeek‘s Jonathan Darmin is more than delighted to report the fact that “Barry” is now only holding a three-point lead over “Señor”, I’d be a bit reserved about popping the champaign corks right now…
CHECK, Señor McCain. Now it’s YOUR move, Sir.

More disturbing still than the idea that this is the second presidential election in a row that has raised a trial balloon of putting a Republican on as running mate for a Democrat (This was raised in 2004 as the possibility of Kerry choosing McCain, but abandoned after the public rebuked that idea) — but yet more disturbing is that a guy who had up to $5 million in ownership of the nation’s biggest voting machine company, who had been on its board of directors and was its CEO up until 2 weeks before announcing his run for Senate, would even be discussed as a potential running mate for anyone without saying, in the same breath, “that is, if you want the voting machine industry in bed with the candidate.”
Oh, and by the way, look hard for Chuck Hagel’s disclosure of his position as CEO of the voting machine company (which counted about 80 % of his own votes) — on his personal financial disclosure documents. He failed to disclose it.
