Barack Obama And The Democrats Deserve To Lose This Campaign For Their “Drill Nothing” Stance On Domestic Oil
For all of the many, many faults of the Republicans in power and their “supreme leader”, Panama John McCain, the Democrats, including their “supreme leader”, Barack Obama, and their “Drill Nothing, Do Nothing, (so-called) New Democratic” Congress, have lost their GOURDS these days when it comes to our dependence upon foreign oil. “Just wait patiently — somebody’s going to invent a way someday to run cars on swampwater“, they promise us. “We can’t drill! It’s bad for snail darters and purple froggies!“, they scream. And — if they’re not careful, it’s going to land us another four; most likely, EIGHT years of a President “Surge” W. Bush II brand of oligarchy led by none other than Señor McCain himself.
Listen up, Dems — Mr. Obama — pull your collective “head” out of your collective “derierré” before your “whatever the Republicans say, we’re again’t it” policy. Whatever did happen to that Democratic Party of the seventies and the eighties who boldly stood up to the “mow it down and pave it over” Republicans? There WAS a time indeed when the Democrats told the Republicans, “Hold on there, Big Oil — you ain’t gonna do no more of that drillin’ ’til you start taking better care of the environment and taking a common sense approach to this project!”
See — I miss THOSE Democrats a LOT. These Democrats we have running America today completely SUCK, frankly. Now they’re just anti-whatever issues the Republicans are for — PERIOD. No longer are they the Liberal “modifier” of crooked, corrupt, environmentally dangerous G.O.P. policies; they are simply quick to take the opposite position, PERIOD. Not really, of course; that’s just what they say when the mics are hot…
Anyhoo — rant over for a few. The Politico (H/T to MemeOrandum for the pull) sums up the new RNC ad thusly:
$3 million ad targets Obama on energy
By MIKE ALLENAn independent-expenditure arm of the Republican National Committee has begun a 10-day, $3 million ad campaign in swing states attacking Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) as “just the party line.”
The 30-second ad, called “Balance,” is read by a narrator and focuses on energy at a time when gas prices are the top issue on voters’ minds.
The script: “Record gas prices, a climate in crisis. John McCain says solve it now. With a balanced plan — alternative energy, conservation, suspending the gas tax AND more production here at home. He’s pushing his own party to face climate change.
“But Barack Obama? For conservation, but he just says no to lower gas taxes. No to nuclear. No to more production. No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line. The Republican National Committee is responsible for the content of this advertising.” …
Tough. It’s true. Face the music, Mr. Obama, and you’d better watch out with your “do nothing, drill nothing, get creative and invent something” stance or America’s approval rating of you will plummet QUICKLY. You and your “New Democratic Congress” personnel had BETTER get with it because THIS Liberal is quickly getting more and more torqued off at not only paying $60.00 for a tank of gas but for the grave danger this great nation is in at this very time due to the fact we are dependent upon Saudi terrorists for our “go-go juice”. This crappola “strategy” of yours is guaranteed to backfire on you, Sir.
As for Señor McCain, he’s every bit as bad if not WORSE. For one, the man cannot be trusted at all for anything he says on the topic of “Big Oil”. He now wants to drill of the coast — fine — anything it takes to protect my family and my country. On the other hand, he still (supposedly) REFUSES to drill ANWR for the same reason his fellow crooks Senators refuse — so a frigging carribou doesn’t get confused. Let me tell you all a little something — I remind you — I was raised in the Great State of Alaska and ANWR is the ugliest, most desolate, “nothing worth living lives here” piece of ungoldly ground I have ever seen in my life, at least the tiniest sliver of it “Big Oil” would love to drill in. Key point here is — I_have_seen_it — and with my own two eyes — have you, Mr./Ms. “oh, we can’t drill there”? Take yourself a little “field trip” instead of relying upon the lying BASTARDS who furnish you with those pictures of polar bear cubs frolicking in gorgeous tidal pools in an effort to easily steer “The Sheeple” with their propaganda.
I’ll make one more point before I shut up for the eve. The Alaska Pipeline was literally in my backyard, growing up as a kid. It was a real pain in the bottom, too. I had to bend slightly over to walk underneath it to my favorite fishing and hunting spots. What an INJUSTICE! Not ONE drop of oil was ever found anywhere around this particular area. Now, I was also around for the Exxon-Valdez disaster, too, and I witnessed that tragedy up-close and personal as well. On the other hand, I do believe we have been fairly successful in the enforcement of the “No drunken sailors get to haul millions of gallons of oil around the world anymore” laws, too.
In closing, Mr. Obama had better take another look at his so-called “Energy Policy”. It SUCKS. Alternative fuels and 500 mile carburetors? Okay, Sir — WHEN? We need it NOW. This SECOND. America’s suffering greatly, Sir. You say “It would take ten years to start pumping oil domestically” and dismiss the idea on that premise only? Guess what, Sir? The MOMENT our GUTLESS Democrats and Republicans in Congress and the Senate open up ANWR to “Big Oil”, then REGULATE gasoline as the utility it truly is (How can you regulate natural gas as a “utility” and NOT gasoline? Contradictory, isn’t it?) is the moment the Saudi terrorists begin to play fair in the “Big Oil” game. Not only would opening up ANWR get their attention, the value of TERRORIST oil would drop simply on the news alone. Wake up, Mr. Obama, and smell the coffee.
‘Nuff said for now.

Other notable reactions from the blogosphere:
… “What we need to solve our energy crisis is an honest debate about the choices before us, not more attack ads that mislead voters about the facts. There’s a real choice in this election between John McCain’s promise to continue the Bush approach of trying to drill our way out of our energy crisis… “
“… Obama lost in the first three states during the primaries, and with his refusal to produce more energy, the three Rust Belt states have little prospect of rebounding from economic turmoil from the loss of manufacturing. The kind of energy needed to create those kinds of jobs will be out of reach with continued obstruction of new energy production as well as the emissions caps that Obama envisions for his environmental policies. …”

GTL,
What a great post! I will not vote for Obama, but if he wins, it would be a HUGE plus for the country if he takes your advice here.
Steve
The one thing that can and very well might defeat Obama is his own democratic congress. A congress who is running back and hugging their talking points on oil and drilling.
While America Burns Congress Fiddles.
This will defeat Obama in November.
I agree that we need to tap our domestic oil resources offshore and in Alaska. Neither party has it right on energy. It is true that the environmentalists have a hold on Democrats just as the big business interests control the Republicans.
We must have conservation along with greater regulation of the oil companies and also put an end to the rampant speculation that is driving up the price of oil. It is time to expand nuclear power and developing alternative energy sources has to become a major priority.
Some of the corporate media is trying to convince us that attaining energy independence is impossible. I don’t believe it for one second. America can become energy independent with a balanced approach and stop sending billions of our dollars to terrorists. What we are missing is real leadership.
Check out this link to a newspaper story about The Nevada ACLU’s break with the national organization over gun rights. Will this be the start of a number of state ACLU affiliates putting distance between themselves and the national ACLU on the gun issue ?
