Democrats And Republicans Alike Cry Out For A Colin Powell Vice Presidency
The big news in the blogosphere today is all about General Wesley Clark and Senator Panama John McCain taking potshots at each other for their military records. Fine — if you want to keep up with that one, go to MemeOrandum for the latest.
As far as I am concerned, BOTH of these guys are military war heros and they’ve earned the right to voice their opinions on whether or not flying around in an airplane and getting shot down earns one the RIGHT to be the president or in the case of the former, getting shot four times and earning both the Silver and Bronze Stars in combat earns one the RIGHT to criticize the guy who got shot down and incarcerated as a Prisoner of War (for acronym lovers, “P.O.W.”).
Meanwhile, there is all sorts of “inside talk” also going on about who will be the ONLY U.S. Senator in this nation’s history to be born in the nation of Panama, only later to return to America to represent the right-leaning Citizens of Arizona after being beaten and tortured for five years by the “bad guys” in Vietnam, and just whom he should choose for his running mate.
Same in the case of Barack Obama who seems hell-bent on NOT picking Sir Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton — at this time. Names being tossed around range from Bill Richardson (D-Obama), to Mitt Romney (R-McCain), to James Webb (D-Obama), to Sarah Palin (R-McCain — Psst — that’s the one for him, I believe — don’t get “catty” on us, Cindy), to Joe Biden (D-Obama), to Bobby Jindal (R-McCain) and everybody else in between. That is, aside from the obvious; The Peoples’ Choice, General Colin Powell.
From PC World:
Survey Determines ‘ideal’ Vice Presidential Candidates
Grant Gross, IDG News ServiceIt turns out that the ideal vice presidential candidate for Senator John McCain, a Republican running for president, is the same person as the ideal vice presidential candidate for Senator Barack Obama, a Democrat, according to a sophisticated online survey by Affinnova.
For both presidential candidates, the best running mate is Colin Powell, a former U.S. Army general and former secretary of state under President George Bush, according to the survey, which was powered by an Affinnova algorithm it calls evolutionary optimization.
“We never imagined that the same candidate would show up for both parties,” said Steve Lamoureaux, Affinnova’s chief innovation officer. …”
(Snip!)
“… Affinnova, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, conducted the online survey of 2,000 likely voters between June 12 and June 17. …”
(Snip!)
“… Among Obama supporters, Powell was the top pick for vice president by a wide margin, Lamoureaux said. …”
(Snip!)
“… Powell had a slight lead among McCain supporters… “
Actually, I’m okay with this. Count me in, too. If either of these guys, i.e., Señor McCain or Barry Obama, choose Colin Powell to be their vice presidential running mate, I’m going with HIM. That is, unless the other one drafts (in order) James Webb or Bill Richardson.
Can we say, “Purple America”?

I can not quote the source but I saw CP interviewed about a year ago on the chances of his ever participating in public service in the future and he ruled it out. His reptutation and his wife’s concerns were the largest factors he stated. As you may or may not know his wife does in fact wear the pants in the family and her opinion is the only one he wants to listen to.

An internet poll? Yeah, there’s a reliable predictor of the electorate’s mood.
McCain’s only advantage in going w/ Powell would be to swing some moderates and blacks to him. Wait, he’s already got the moderate vote, so would Colin really pull that many blacks away from BHO? Not likely, seeing as he’d be on a GOP ticket.
On the other hand, the hard core GOP base (that already has a hard time accepting McCain) actually likes Powell less than JM. McCain-Powell would be another nail in his coffin, guaranteeing a BHO-Fillintheblank victory.
I hate to say it, but BHO could choose Hugo Chavez as his running mate, and I don’t think McCain could beat him, no matter who he picked for VP.

I personally think that Hillary Clinton still has a voice in this race and her commitment to campaign for Obama speaks more of party unity than is showing on the surface. Hillary Clinton could carry much needed states by a large margin if she is on the ticket too. Florida, Oregon, Virginia, Texas (Although they would have to really work for it) and of course Ohio, Penn, and Indiana.
McCain is in trouble and Obama needs to slam this election home and Hillary Clinton has the ability to do just that even if you hate her guts. As has been commented on and posted on many times here at the GTL.
All of us political pundits forget the fact that the woman you love has a vote too and their opinion counts just as much as our bitch fest on all of our male dominated blogs. Woman vote more than men who will pitch the election of the next president into the dung heap in disgust rather than vote. While stubborn men stand strong and refuse to participate, the woman in our lives will vote and if Hillary Clinton is on the ticket then the game is the game. Obama would be a fool to not pick her as Vice President! Sorry Gunny.
