“New Democratic Congress” Earns It’s Whopping 17% Approval Rating (RealClearPolitics) By Crowning King Bush And Funding His “OOPS!” War In Iraq With ZERO Restrictions
Why? Well, because the Dems expect Barack Obama will be our next president, so why NOT “crown” the lame duck known affectionately by his [ahem... VERY few -- again, RCP] fans as “Dubya“, since the “Royal Torch” will soon be passed on to their “Inherit King of The Oval Office Throne”, Barack (“Barry”) Obama. Obviously.
I feel I MUST apologize to my readers. I actively SUPPORTED the “change”; the passing of “batons” from the Republican Party to the Democrats in ’06, because, we DESPARATELY needed “change”. It hasn’t quite worked out the way I’d hoped. Not only do we now need “change” again, we need to dig beneath our couch cushions for “change” just to fill our gas tanks in order to clock into our jobs every day where this RECESSION (SCREW your “technical” definitions of “recession”, Wall Street — this IS a recession and everybody knows it and feels it). Where is Ross Perot and his famous “charts” when you need him and them? Right HERE. It’s called “Perot Charts” and it’s refreshing to hear once again from the “Pero-Ster”. RUN, Ross, RUN!
Why? Because of the obvious — neither the Democrats OR the Republicans give a rat’s petootie about the average, every day, working American Liberal OR Conservative anymore. They’re enjoying threesomes and foursomes with each other whenever the cameras and mics are looking at Tiger Woods or Wesley Snipes, and they’re getting all the cooperation they need to hijack our Democracy from the mainstream media (“MSM”) they need to complete the Oligarchical Monarchy they seek…
From Salon’s Glenn Greenwald:
George Bush’s latest powers, courtesy of the Democratic Congress
CQ reports (sub. req.) that “a final deal has been reached” on FISA and telecom amnesty and “the House is likely to take up the legislation Friday.” I’ve now just read a copy of the final “compromise” bill. It’s even worse than expected. When you read it, it’s actually hard to believe that the Congress is about to make this into our law. Then again, this is the same Congress that abolished habeas corpus with the Military Commissions Act, and legalized George Bush’s warrantless eavesdropping program with the “Protect America Act,” so it shouldn’t be hard to believe at all. Seeing the words in print, though, adds a new dimension to appreciating just how corrupt and repugnant this is… “
(Snip!)
“… the Attorney General has to do is recite those magic words — the President requested this eavesdropping and did it in order to save us from the Terrorists — and the minute he utters those words, the courts are required to dismiss the lawsuits against the telecoms, no matter how illegal their behavior was.
That’s the “compromise” Steny Hoyer negotiated and which he is now — according to very credible reports — pressuring every member of the Democratic caucus to support. It’s full-scale, unconditional amnesty with no inquiry into whether anyone broke the law. In the U.S. now, thanks to the Democratic Congress, we’ll have a new law based on the premise that the President has the power to order private actors to break the law, and when he issues such an order, the private actors will be protected from liability of any kind on the ground that the Leader told them to do it — the very theory that the Nuremberg Trial rejected. …”
(Snip!)
“… Our fund-raising campaign has just exceeded $200,000. So the only solace is that this hefty (and still growing) fund provides some real ability to target those responsible and do everything possible to remove them from power and end their political careers for good (the list thus far includes Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Rep. Chris Carney and Rep. John Barrow).
It is also worthwhile to continue to call Barack Obama’s campaign to demand that he intervene with meaningful action to stop this (though you’d be advised not to hold your breath while waiting for that to happen). As noted earlier today, Obama is conspicuously missing as his party is on the verge of enacting a radical bill to give the President vast new warrantless eavesdropping powers and retroactive amnesty to an entire lawbreaking industry. …”
Let’s forget for a moment that Glenn Greenwald is contridicting himself for criticizing the “New Democratic Congress” for their “retroactive amnesty”. He seems to SUPPORT “retroactive amnesty” for illegal aliens from Mexico, after all. Instead, let’s forget about all that and focus on the fact that the man is correct in this one — the Democrats have let we TRUE “Liberals” down TREMENDOUSLY. Like our brethren on the conservative side of the aisle, I truly DO believe many of us are more than ready for a third party candidate who TRULY cares about the issues the majority of us care about if the Democrats must continue to insist upon continuing the Oligarchical Monarchy our Founding Fathers fled from not THAT long ago…

I am pissed GTL, I too voted Democrat in 2006 believing they would faithfully execute their Constitutional duties as a check to a dangerously impudent Executive Branch. But no, they have failed. And their failures are not due to any brilliant political maneuvering from the other side of the aisle. Their failures stem from their collusion with the dark side and inability to grow a spine. But ya know what GTL? The real blame falls squarely on our shoulders as citizens. As long as we continue to pay more attention to what letter is attached to a candidate’s name, and not to their policies or voting records. The looting and the destruction of a once proud republic, by the criminals in charge will continue on its current trajectory.
Oh, and one more thing. Obama’s silence on this vital issue is a red flag to me, and should be to anybody contemplating supporting him or further supporting his bid for the presidency. To think that Obama will in any way try to nullify George Bush’s dictatorial expansion of executive powers, or end the wars during his first or possible second term is just plain naive. He (Obama) is a corporatist just like HRC or that Pro-Torture P.O.W.
American’s need to stop voting for their “team ” and start voting for their communities, for true representation, and for America.
I hate to sound cynical here, but did you guys really believe that the Demo-cons were really going to bring “change”? I mean come on. They want power just as much as the Republi-crats do.
For the Greenwald piece, well, I have a love, hate relationship with the guy. One min. he’s on (like he is here) the next he’s defending something that goes against every grain in my body. And that’s why I love to hate him. He makes me think.
And as a fellow “independant” thinker, I’m a huge sports fan, and I did like seeing that 91 holes of golf with Tiger and Rocco. Please refrain from lumping me in with “joe six-pack”. (I’m being sarcastic)
The Kool-aid drinkers of the blog-world are a strange bunch.
“I’ll show you politics in America right here, I believe the puppet on the right shares my beliefs. Well, I believe the puppet on the left is more to my liking. Hey, wait a minute, there’s one guy holding up both puppets! Go back to bed, America, your government is in control”
Bill Hicks has said what most ” progressive ” and ” conservative ” blogs are afraid to admit. Hey RegularRon, I call top bunk at the FEMA camp!
BB…Nothing like a little Bill Hicks to show what is wrong with American politics.
Top bunk? Dammit, but I won’t be “re-ed-u-cated” first.
Gun, can you shed some light for me? I got this today from IAVA (Iraq and Afghan Vets of America:
“The White House and Congress have reached an agreement on the new GI Bill. The bill will now be included in the Emergency Supplemental Funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Did they shove this telecom immunity thing into the same bill as the funding for Webb’s vets? That really smells if it’s the case. Dems had no choice but to vote for Webb’s bill.
Sometimes I hate politics, even when I love them.
Jet, I received the same e-mail from IAVA as you did, and yes the FISA “compromise” was attached to Webb’s G.I. Bill along with an extension for unemployment benefits. Sad, sad day. “Support” the troops, or screw the Constitution? hmmmm. I am an OIF vet, and Webb’s G.I. Bill is a dream come true, but I love my country and Constitution more than government handouts. Hey RegularRon I’ll flip ya, best two out of three as to who gets to attend ” class ” first.
Sad, but true, Jet… ya nailed it. VERY sad day in America. I’d be rooting for the Senate to oppose it and send it back to the House without the telecom immunity crappola, but I think I know better than that.
Democans and Republicrats — all of ‘em.
On the “pos” side, perhaps this was a strategy to boost Senator Jim Webb’s profile for the vice presidency so I can actually help Barack Obama get elected versus opposing the “lesser of two evils” and voting for another (of many) “write-in” candidates…
TREASON. Happening all around us and we allow it to continue. Almost treasonous of us at this point…
Uh, guys, neither the 4th amendment nor the original FISA mechanism were intended to give protection to non-US citizens, outside of the US, especially those engaged in trying to, y’know, kill us. The simple fact is that most international calls spend a tiny fraction of their trip running through a switch in this country. Shame on us for being the world’s tech and communication center. The program has been under intense review by the same group that just granted habeus corpus righhts to non-US citizens outside the US who were caught trying to, y’know, kill us. The FISA program was given a constitutional green light by this liberal (oops, sorry, ultra-conservative) crowd. And when a telecom company is asked, officially, to submit records by an agency charged with keeping this country safe, including gun-toting liberals, and they comply, why should they then be subject to expensive lawsuits? Besides lining the pockets of the Dems most consistent supporters, Trial Lawyers? Ok, today’s lesson in reality is closed; you may go back to your lefist delusions.
NeoCon_1 near Samarra, Iraq
Welcome, Chris — wow… in Iraq. I’m SO impressed. Sorry, but that doesn’t mean a damned thing to me, with all due respect.
I did MY tour in the Desert as well and as you WELL know, half of the military who carry liberal points of view are suppressed from voicing their opinions in the manner you just did, thanks to the UCMJ and it’s prohibition against bashing the president of the United States. Once the torch shifts to a Democratic president (and no, I’m not convinced that’s a good thing, I’m just predicting), your RIGHT WING military men of honor blogs will learn the hard lesson of the military’s version of free speech the hard way, just like we LEFT-LEANING military men and women of honor have had to deal with for eight years.
Soon enough, welcome to the OTHER side of the military’s brand of “free speech”, brother. Get ready for a wakeup call, Sir. As you know, the military is a cross-section of America and we BOTH know all those 20 year old kids in uniform who wear those funny looking flat-billed baseball caps and their pants halfway down the crack of the BUTTS on their off-duty time aren’t die-hard Replicans like yourself, correct? Let’s be honest, my friend. They don’t blog against their Commander-In-Chief because it’s HIGHLY ILLEGAL to do so and we BOTH know it. Will you admit it? Don’t TEST me. I’m STILL in the military, by the way; so be VERY careful in your rebuttals please. Our readers are HIGHLY intelligent and their sense of smell is phenomenal.
Oh, and thank you for your selfless service to this great country and stay alive and well in that hell-hole.
