Sports Emmys Winner And Part-Time Political Journalist Tim Russert Drops Dead At Age 58

“Meet The Press”? Who Gets Up THAT Early On Sunday Mornings Anyway? RIP, Tim Russert

Tim Russert is dead at 58 -- sports and politics suffers as a result of his passing...That’s right, I’m a beer-swilling NFL fan and on Sunday mornings I’m lucky enough to wake up in time to witness the kick-offs in the early games. Therefore; I always thought of the guy with the unmistakeable face (may he Rest In Peace) as an “ESPN football analyst-type” who would delve into the politcal arena every now and then like many so many other sports pundits will do on occasion. As I watched the breaking (sad) news today, I literally asked those around me if that was “that ESPN guy”. I apologize for my ignorance. Obviously, the man was so much more than just THAT.

CORRECT; I’m admitting I had no idea on Earth Tim Russert was better known for his political wit (again, since I don’t watch “Meet The Press“) than for his awesome sports commentary; I thought it was the other way AROUND.

Oh, sure; I’d seen the guy on FoxNewsOreilly Factor and other MSM forums commenting on political events; I’d just seen him MORE often on ESPN and other sports channels, weighing in EXPERTLY on his favorite Buffalo Bills as well as other teams in the National Football League. In other words, I came to know him as the Emmy Award-winning SPORTS anylist more than I ever did a political pundit. Apparently, everybody else in the blogosphere (H/T to MemeOrandum) has been smarter than I all along. Not surprising, of course…

From MSNBC:

NBC’s Tim Russert dies of heart attack at 58
Washington bureau chief, ‘Meet the Press’ moderator collapsed on job

WASHINGTON – Tim Russert, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief and the moderator of “Meet the Press,” died Friday after suffering a heart attack at the bureau. He was 58.

Russert was recording voiceovers for Sunday’s “Meet the Press” broadcast when he collapsed. He was rushed to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Russert’s physician, Michael Newman, said cholesterol plaque ruptured in an artery, causing sudden coronary thrombosis.

Russert had earlier been diagnosed with asymptomatic coronary artery disease, but it was well-controlled with medication and exercise, and he had performed well on a stress test in late April, Newman said. An autopsy revealed that he also had an enlarged heart, Newman said.

Russert’s death left his colleagues devastated. …”

My thoughts and prayers go out to Tim Russert and his loved ones in this time of need. The National Football League and The Buffalo Bills will NEVER be the same without him.
