President Bush In 2000 On Clinton Administration: “… the president must ‘jawbone’ oil producing nations and persuade them to drop rates.” President Bush In 2008 “Jawbones” With Saudis And They Tell Him “Don’t tell us how to run our bidness“
I’ve got to admit — as an American taxpayer, I’m a more than a bit torqued off that I was forced to finance the jet fuel for Air Force One to travel fifteen hours to Saudi Arabia FOR NOTHING when President Bush promised us back in 2000 when he was pandering for our votes, President Bill Clinton simply had to do the same thing he himself did today to bring down oil prices — just hop into Air Force One, do a little “jaw-jacking” with the Saudis, and they’d see things our way and cut us some slack. Fast-forward eight years and we see the Truth with a capital “T” — (then) Governor Bush was either B-S’ing us or simply didn’t know what in the hell he was talking about.
And just the day before, he was in Israel, mouthing off about how “SOME” U.S. Senators (not Barack Obama, mind you — Source: The Politico), believe negotiating with them-thar “terr’ists” is going to work. Next day, there “Mister President” is, negotiating with “terr’ists” to drop their oil prices (again, HOW MANY of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis?”, and whoa-lahhh… turns out he was right for once — the Saudi Royal Family “terr’ists” told him to STICK IT. Hey, even a broken clock gets it right twice per day, correct?
Anyhoo — the MSNBC Report on the topic for your reading pleasure — Both a blend of today’s news along with a “snippet” to take us on a little stroll down “Memory Lane” as well:
Saudi Arabia rebuffs Bush on oil production
White House: Riyadh says it’s already meeting customers’ demands
Associated Press
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia’s leaders made clear Friday they see no reason to increase oil production until customers demand it, apparently rebuffing President Bush amid soaring U.S. gasoline prices.
It was Bush’s second personal appeal this year to King Abdullah, head of the monarchy that rules this desert kingdom that is a longtime prime U.S. ally and home to the world’s largest oil reserves. But Saudi officials stuck to their position that they will only pump more oil into the system when asked to by buyers, something they say is not happening now, the president’s national security adviser told reporters. …”
(Snip!)
“… When Bush first ran for president in 2000, he criticized the Clinton administration for high fuel prices and said the president must “jawbone” oil producing nations and persuade them to drop rates. At that time, oil was nearing $28 a barrel — less than a quarter what it is now. …”
SO, there we go — those of us who thought President Bush was a B-S Artist -slash- DOOMAS back in 2000 were correct. Yay. We’ve been VINDICATED…
Meanwhile, we starve.

I know you have heard all of this before, but quickly:
Two weeks ago it was reported in a one paragraph article on page 18 that North Dakota has oil reserves that exceed those of our good friends, the Saudis.
It is an established fact that the Anwar reserves alone could power the United States for over 100 (one hundred) years. Also, we have learned from the previous Alaskan Pipeline that the ever so important Caribou populations went through the roof once the pipeline was erected. They like the warmth generated in the pipeline in order to have the oil flow.
Superficial exploration of the Gulf of Mexico has the experts suspecting there are vast quantity’s of the civilization sustaining fluid waiting to be had.
So how about it Liberal Gun Toting Dude? What say you and your dirt worshiping buddies let America drill and refine her own oil for the next couple of centuries? Surely an alternative energy will surface in the interim, and the USA will maintain her quality of living and stature in the process. Turn the oil company’s loose, let them keep their hard earned profits, and they will stop this nonsense within five years. Lets drill the damn oil, build the needed refinery’s, and tell our good friends in the Middle East bug- off.
Fat Chance of that right? Your messiah Obama wants to slam taxes on and punish the very people that can solve this problem once and for all. That will teach those evil corporate bums eh? Obama plays on the ignorance of the American People here, in that no Corporation anywhere pays taxes themselves, they just pass them on the the customer…You and I.

Everything Karpy know about the “awl bidness” he learned by listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. In other words, not much.
ANWR wouldn’t produce oil for seven or eight years if they rigged up tomorrow. They are already drilling the hell out of the Gulf of Mexico and the simple fact is we are now competing around the world for oil reserves. American reserves are extremely expensive to exploit because they are in Arctic regions and deep water in the Gulf of Mexico. They will only be produced if prices remain high. The world’s largest potential for new reserves was recently discovered in Brazil. They will also be expensive to produce as they are in deep water, too.
You need to check your “established facts”. Cheap oil and SUV’s are being obliterated by the “magic of the marketplace”.
