Is Controversial Former Pastor Jeremiah Wright REALLY Pulling For Barack Obama To Win?

If So, He Has A VERY Strange Way Of Showing It

Jeremiah Wright does his friend Barack Obama no favors in his NAACP and other recent speeches...WOW — Señor “Panama John” McCain’s and Sir Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton’s campaign staffs must be popping the champaign corks as I write this. Jeremiah Wright has gone on a rampage over the last twenty-four hours; stumping (yes, STUMPING) for a possible vice presidency (for whom, one must wonder?) and doing anything and everything he can to preserve his newfound fifteen minutes of fame as the former pastor of Trinity United Church. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem he gives a damn whether or not his former parrisioner, Barack Obama, has any success in his quest for the presidency either.

Breaking, from CBS News’ “Horserace”:

Starting Gate: The Wright Stuff
Posted by Vaughn Ververs

Whether you think he’s right or wrong, the public speaking tour by Barack Obama’s former preacher Jeremiah Wright is going to dominate the political discussion heading into a very pivotal week in the presidential campaign. And there are few positives for Obama’s campaign to be found in that reality.

In a combative appearance at the national press club this morning, Wright provided more ammunition for critics who contend that his brand of theology is divisive at best, troubling at worst. In his prepared remarks, Wright contended that such criticisms were not an attack on himself or Obama’s campaign but on what he called the “black church.”

And he did nothing to distance himself from earlier comments that have been looped and replayed over and over again. He praised Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as an important voice for black Americans while insisting that he did not agree with everything the controversial leader has said. Wright described Sunday mornings as the most segregated time in the nation, blasted the U.S. government and, asked whether he believes that it spread the AIDS virus within the black community, insisted, “I believe our government is capable of doing anything.” …

(Snip!)

“… Rev. Wright has made a point of insisting that his role is not that of a politician but of a religious and community leader. …”

Eh? Apparently this guy wrote his blog article before Jeremiah Wright finished his Q&A session because he DID say he would consider a vice presidency. That statement raises a couple of obvious questions:

1. Wright is obviously a hypocrite. How can he say, at the very same luncheon, “I’m not a politician” and minutes later declare himself open-minded for a vice presidency?

2. Vice president for WHOM? Not even Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton would choose this guy for running mate, and that, folks, is saying something…

Here’s what I think, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many, MANY others are beginning to lean this way — Jeremiah Wright, to me, comes off as an angry man — angry for being shunned by his ole’ buddy Barack. If anything, I wouldn’t be the least bit shocked if moderates and independent voters begin to sympathize with the Senator from Illinios for what is beginning to look a lot like an effort on Wright’s behalf to harpoon the man.

Why do I say this? Well, because, contrary to what many may believe, I am NOT a Democrat; I am an independent, left-leaning, libertarian-ish voter who has thus far remained in the “undecided” column and these are MY thoughts on the “Wright Versus Obama” saga. While initially, somewhat alarmed by the soundbites of Mr. Wright, I am now beginning to see a power-hungry man who’s so infatuated with his newfound “fame”, he’s willing to throw Obama and anybody else under the proverbial “bus” to join the ranks of Jesse Jackson in the “divisive, roaming pastors without a church” crowd. And this is the LAST thing America; “black” or “white”; needs right now, save for the entertainment value alone. And now we understand the man is being guarded by “Nation Of Islam” folks due to (supposed) threats on his life. Sounds like a “con job” to me.

If I am correct on this one, Sir Hillary and Panama John had better be drinking their champaign in moderation because the voting base Barack Obama needs to come to his side might just become sympathetic to him over this debacle. “Victimhood”, after all, can go a very long way toward getting somebody some badly needed votes. Just ask Sir Hillary Rodham Diane Clinton on that one. Remember those crocodile tears she shed a few weeks back and the bottom line results she garnered?
