Did “Johnny” Play Hide The Sausage With Lobbyist, Vicki Iseman In 2000?
The New York Times‘ Jim Rutenberg, Marilyn W. Thompson, David D. Kirkpatrick and Stephen Labaton remind us of the real “Sheriff” John McCain lurking behind the mask of Mr. “I’m Less Liberal Than They are“:
The Long Run
For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk
— Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.
A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.
When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s client, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
Mr. McCain, 71, and the lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, 40, both say they never had a romantic relationship. But to his advisers, even the appearance of a close bond with a lobbyist whose clients often had business before the Senate committee Mr. McCain led threatened the story of redemption and rectitude that defined his political identity. …”
Wow. VIVA VIAGARA!!!
And — on the OTHER hand, Viva(!) “Bidness as usual” in the Republican ranks.

Sausage or Vienna Sausage.
Personally, I don’t give a hoot. Better he be doin’ a woman than doin’ the world as president.

This is really bottom of the barrel stuff. You can read the entire article – many pages long – and not find one speck of hard evidence that anything was amiss. Anonymous sources, my ass. More likely made up sources. One quote from a real person and it completely innocuous and only concerned with appearances. It is 8 years old and if there were anything to it, it would have come out long ago. And democrats are worried about the GOP hit machine?
It would appear the NY Times is now competing with National Enquirer and other tabloids for the few remaining print media customers.

I don’t believe this will hurt McCain in the short run. What this will do will make it harder for McCain to swiftboat his opponent in the future, after complaining that it had been done to him.
