Barack Obama Wins Both South Carolina And JFK’s Daughter In A Landslide

JFK Daughter Caroline: “A vote for my Barack is a vote for my daddy.”

Former Co-President, Sir Hillary Rodham Clinton has been defeated in the South Carolina Democratic primary in an unexpected landslide by the “inexperienced” Senator from Illiniois, Barack Obama. As if that is not enough to add salt to the wounds, the daughter of the Honorable and dearly departed President John F. Kennedy, (Caroline Kennedy), was not only moved by the Obama campaign, she has become an official activist and campaigner for Barack…

From her Op-Ed piece in The New York TImes:

Op-Ed Contributor
A President Like My Father

By CAROLINE KENNEDY

Caroline Kennedy endorses Barack Obama as the next JFK as he wins a LANDSLIDE over Hillary and Bill Clinton in South Carolina...OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama.

My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined. All my life, people have told me that my father changed their lives, that they got involved in public service or politics because he asked them to. And the generation he inspired has passed that spirit on to its children. I meet young people who were born long after John F. Kennedy was president, yet who ask me how to live out his ideals.

Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things. In those rare moments, when such a person comes along, we need to put aside our plans and reach for what we know is possible.

We have that kind of opportunity with Senator Obama. It isn’t that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable. But this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country — just as we did in 1960. …”

(Snip!)

“… Senator Obama has demonstrated these qualities throughout his more than two decades of public service, not just in the United States Senate but in Illinois, where he helped turn around struggling communities, taught constitutional law and was an elected state official for eight years. And Senator Obama is showing the same qualities today. He has built a movement that is changing the face of politics in this country, and he has demonstrated a special gift for inspiring young people — known for a willingness to volunteer, but an aversion to politics — to become engaged in the political process. …”

(Snip!)

“… Senator Obama is running a dignified and honest campaign. He has spoken eloquently about the role of faith in his life, and opened a window into his character in two compelling books. And when it comes to judgment, Barack Obama made the right call on the most important issue of our time by opposing the war in Iraq from the beginning.

I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans.”

Well, WELL, Ms. Kennedy — while it cannot be argued the Clintons will “do whatchya gotta do” to get themselves reelected to a third term, it’s also just as hard to argue that “Barry” Obama is anything more than just another “silver tongued devil” with a microphone and an obsession to inherit the White House. Likeable? Of COURSE.

How can one NOT just love a guy who tells us what’s wrong with the status quo with a smile on his face while putting forth the bad news with a positive spin? After all, that’s the way I begin ALL of my morning staff briefings at my “day gig”, but then again, I’ve got my hands full just trying to keep my doors open versus trying to run the country. See where I’m coming from? I would NEVER attempt to run the country; my hands are full enough with just trying to keep folks clocking in on-time every time, for crying out loud.

On the other hand, my sincere congrats go out to Senator Obama for his LANDSLIDE BUTTKICKING on the Clintons in South Carolina. They had it (and more) coming to ‘em, frankly. After all, just because your last name is “Clinton” doesn’t mean you’ve got a DAMNED thing coming to you. Conversely, having the last name of “Kennedy” doesn’t either, does it? God FORBID; the surname “Bush”. Thankfully though, there ain’t “no brutha Jed” runnin’ in THIS “hossrace” either.

Good point, but there is more to Obama than him being a positive messenger. He presents solid policy changes but also a change in the current paradigm. That latter aspect is hard to put your finger on, but for lack of a better term you can call it “it”. Bobby Kennedy had “it”, and Reagan had “it”. Obama has “it”. The Dems have an opportunity here.

But democrats can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (as they often do) and elect Hillary as their nominee. If they want to really win this thing, the party rank-and-file (gawd help us) better elect Obama.

I might disagree with Obama on some policy issues (2A), but at least he’s open to reasonable debate and compromise.

Camelot notwithstanding, the real reason Caroline K. has endorsed Obama is because she has hope that he will get a dog for his kids, that he is a man of his word. More than a Democrat, she is deep down an animal lover. I think if Obama would get himself down to the SPCA this week, the wave would go TIDAL, man. I mean, come on, the Kennedys had horses, dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and hamsters! What’s on Bill and Hillary’s resume? A cat they abandoned and two dogs that got run over by cars. I just finished laughing after reading Jonathan’s comment. While Mr. Obama has talked a lot about change and hope, try finding actual substance on his website or in his answers. Let’s face it, who isn’t for hope and “getting along”, what’s the option, despair and infighting. Oh wait, the Clinton’s are for that :)

While I’m sure Hillary is polarizing enough to get beat in the general election, I’m not sure Obama has enough answers to win in it.

For instance, he claims for $150 billion we can cover 45 million uninsured. Yet right now Medicare can’t cover 2/3′s of that number for twice as much money. And he’s offered no real insight as to where that huge cost savings will appear from. If he does find it, will he apply it to Medicare also?
