Mitt Romney doesn’t quite give them the “rise” they were hoping for. John McCain? Too old to get their juices flowing. Rudy Giuliani? FUGGITABOUTIT… an abortion-happy “antichrist”, and worst yet; he’s not quite handsome enough to rally the Far-Right Troops Of God to his cause.
These people who once held the (ahem… “disgraced“) former Evangelical KING, Ted Haggard, to be Christ Himself reincarnated, it seems, are being quite a bit more “picky” these days as they SHOULD be. On the other hand, they should also begin to come to terms with the fact that they are not NEARLY as important to America as they THINK they are.
YAWWWWN….
From The Washington Post:
Evangelicals Lukewarm Toward GOP Field
By Michael D. Shear and Perry Bacon Jr.
For months, Republican presidential candidates such as Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and John McCain have courted evangelical Christians, meeting with religious leaders throughout the Midwest and the South.
Today, thousands of Christian conservatives will gather in Washington to confront the fact that none of the candidates has won them over.
For Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, and former senator Fred D. Thompson (Tenn.), the conference will be an opportunity to do what months of private meetings have failed to accomplish: become the consensus candidate for the evangelical movement, a key constituency of the Republican Party.
“At the moment, there’s nothing but confusion every place I go,” said Chuck Colson, who runs the Prison Fellowship, a national Christian ministry. “They lament the fact that there’s no one candidate out there around whom evangelicals and conservative Catholics can sort of coalesce around and get excited about.”
He added: “Nobody has rung the bell yet.” …
DING-DONG! That’s your “bell” ringing, pal…
Then, we have this “gem”:
“… Romney, who this week picked up the endorsement of Bob Jones III, the chancellor of Bob Jones University, is viewed with suspicion by some evangelicals because he had previously supported abortion rights, a stance he has since disavowed. Polls suggest that his Mormon faith is also a concern among some evangelical voters. …”
So, let me get this straight: Romney supported abortion; these “Evangelicals” (am I supposed to capitalize the “E”?) WORSHIPPED the gay Reverend Ted Haggard, then kicked him to the curb THE VERY SECOND he came out of the closet, and we’re supposed to value their “oh-so-important” opinions? As if that is not enough, the man isn’t QUITE the “correct” brand of “Christian” for these DOOMASSES?
Frankly, they’re not even worth a serious writeup by any serious news organization — they’re totally confused WACKOS…
And this country would be much better off if they’d just stay home and pray to “Jeebus” on election day versus hitting the polls.

I am not a supporter of Romney. He is a chameleon. When he tried to run against Teddy for the senate seat he actually tried to be more liberal than the Massachusetts Godfather of Liberal, Teddy Kennedy. He was anti-gun and has now joined the NRA and claims to be a lifelong hunter [that has only been in the field twice]. He claims that he only hunts varmints! Yup. You betcha! Hmmmm. He was pro-abortion before he was against it.
The ONLY place I am regularly seeing anyone bringing up his religion as a conservative sticking point seems to be from the left, a very strange epicenter for this sort of objection unless it is just pot-stirring, a possibility! In the Michigan Dutch Reformed enclaves, Romney Mormonism doesnt seem to be an issue.
Mitt recently made a sweep through Michigan and was hailed as a returning prodigal son. In Grand Rapids, he was feted by US Congressmen Hoekstra and Ehlers. This is part of the “Ask Mitt Anything” tour.
There may be pockets of religious bigotry, but for the most part, his religion is only a talking point used by the MSM.

Change a few names, change the polarity, change an issue or two, and you can make the same condemnation of the liberals (or progressives, or whatever name the socialists and one-world-government crowd is using this month). Seems like the pot calling it a kettle of color.

Fact is, this post wasn’t an attack on the “religious right”; many evangelicals are members of the “religious left” and the “religious middle” as well…

Found this blip about McCain’s age. Kind of thought provoking!

I find it highly ironic that a religious group wants to enter into the political fray- why not appoint one of their own, king? Since Christianity , Judaism and Islam submit to One God- referring to said deity as “Our Lord”, it seems only a kick-step away from reestablishing a “divine right” manifesto- this was exactly the kind of thing we tried to get away from. They should just shut up and sing.
It is one thing to try to live the Godly life, it is another to force it upon someone else.
