I’m quickly tiring of all of these people from the right sticking up for the INDEFENSIBLE Rush Limbaugh by blatantly lying, alongside of the “boisterous one”, about his bashing of our military members who PRIVATELY hold differing opinions from him by categorizing them as “phony Soldiers”. I’ve stated before that Limbaugh, along with Hannity and the rest of their ilk have been bashing the troops all along; often shouting them down when they call in with a disagreement with them, or President Bush.
Then, it HIT me. Remember when Specialist Thomas Wilson questioned former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on the lack of body armor in Kuwait? A PERFECT example of the FACT “El Rushbo” only supports the half of the troops in uniform who are allowed to fully voice their free speech via the UCMJ due to the fact their views are shared by the talk radio show host and their Commander-In-Chief. For those who might have forgotten, not only did Specialist Wilson get a rousing ovation by the majority of his fellow troops that day in Kuwait, “El Rushbo”, “The Truth Detector” LYING LOW-LIFE, called for Specialist Wilson to be busted for “borderline-insubordination” at the time…
From The New York Times, May 22nd, 2005:
“… The right’s rage at Newsweek is all too reminiscent of the contempt it heaped on Specialist Thomas Wilson, the soldier who dared to ask Mr. Rumsfeld at a town hall meeting in Kuwait in December about the shortage of armored vehicles. Mr. Wilson was guilty of ”near-insubordination,” said Rush Limbaugh… “
Furthermore, according to The Hill, it appears a bunch of anti-war veterans aren’t going to be letting this one go so easily either…
Anti-war veterans target Limbaugh
By Klaus MarreAn anti-war group consisting of veterans from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan is launching an ad Tuesday that attacks popular conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
The group, VoteVets.org, is spending $60,000 on the ad, which will air on Fox News and CNN. In addition, a radio version of the ad will run during Limbaugh’s show in Washington, D.C., and Palm Beach, Fla., the group said.
At issue is Limbaugh’s controversial “phony soldiers” remark that was made during a broadcast last week in response to a caller who criticized soldiers who spoke out against the war in Iraq. While Limbaugh says his remark is directed at people pretending to have a service record and seeking the limelight, Democrats have taken the statement as an insult to the troops who are serving but do not support the war and called the remark “hateful” and “unpatriotic.”
The VoteVets.org ad features Brian McGough, a veteran who was injured and received the Purple Heart. …”
Well, the fact IS, just in case you might happen to be a new reader around here, I’m not a Democrat, I am a completely independent (small “I” on purpose), left-of-center, libertarian (small “L” on purpose also), and as a “phony Airman“, I’m QUITE offended by the comments of this IDIOT, right along with probably at least HALF of the U.S. military who fit his “phony Soldier” characterization.
There’s no excuse for his failing to accept responsibility, be accountable, and simply APOLOGIZE to those of us whom he has blatantly offended versus attempting to lie his way out of trouble. While we’re at it, the OTHER FACT is, as proven by his history, Mr. Limbaugh has NEVER supported the military — only the half of it who share his ideology while the other HUGE part of it whom are not allowed to publicly express their outrage under military law. The right wing SHOCK JOCKS have long taken advantage of that FACT to paint this erroneous picture to their audiences that only far-right (onward!) Christian (“real Soldiers”) have the GUTS to SERVE in uniform. It’s quite good for their “bidnesses”, and they KNOW it.
Need more proof? Here are a couple other of “Rush’s Greatest HITS” (no pun intended):
From his show on May 12th, 2005:
LIMBAUGH: I mean, where are the real men in the Democratic Party? Where are the real men? Hillary Clinton’s one of them, but where are the others? You know — it’s just a bunch of wusses! …”
Well, Rush – there are a BUNCH of them serving in the U.S. military as “phony Soldiers”, as you have well-known all along. Nice, shining, additional example of your history of “troop bashing” there, Sir.
Here’s another example from his August 23rd, 2005 broadcast:
“… Well, I think we — it’s time to stop dancing around this issue, folks, to tell you the truth. It’s time for somebody to tell the people on the left, you’re damn right we’re questioning your patriotism. …”
Need another? One more, then I’ll take a little “breather” on this one…
Also from 2005, here’s another example of how “El Rushbo” REALLY feels about the troops; well, at least HALF of them — from HuffPo — Rush goes onto bash the HECK out of a decorated Iraq veteran. His “crime”? Wishing to further serve his countrymen and women by running for office as a Democrat:
Now — PLEASE tell me again just how much “El Rushbo” supports the troops — ALL the troops, because he OBVIOUSLY does NOT, nor has he EVER.

GTL, do you REALLY think that Rush Limbaugh INTENDED his comment to refer to all soldiers who lean left of center?
I’m not trying to defend him by asking that. I haven’t listened to the exchange, and I rarely listen to Rush’s radio show unless it’s purely by accident. Obviously it was poor word choice on his part. But was it just that – poor word choice that is being misinterpreted?
I suspect that his poor word choice is being misinterpreted and exploited, as opposed to him truly believing that any soldier left of center is a “phony.” But as we all know in politics, poor word choice leads to exactly what’s happening.
But I agree with you that regardless, an apology is warranted.

What’s happening to Rush is a metaphor for what’s wrong with the Bush Republican party. They exploited an injudicious ad. by MoveOn and then Rush piled on in a way that was too over the top.
These people never consider the blowback from their actions. That’s why they have to keep changing their rational for the Iraq war periodicly, because the public keeps figuring out the truth.
Is there any reason to believe that their approach to Iran will be any better considered that anything else they’ve done in the last seven years?

Maverick: “GTL, do you REALLY think that Rush Limbaugh INTENDED his comment to refer to all soldiers who lean left of center?”
Unfortunately, Mav, I do. I’ve often just cringed when Soldiers and veterans would call into his show and claim their military afiliation followed by a disagreement with the methods of the White House in Iraq, just to be shouted down, blasted, personally attacked, etc. I’ve listened to Rush and Hannity long enough that I can’t even count the times I’ve heard both do this. Aside from that, see the above for his REAL thoughts about left-leaning and/or anti-Iraq war troops… well-documented to say the least.
I agree on something though — all I want is an apology and I want to hear a Limbaugh soundclip saying he supports ALL of the troops, even those who might disagree with his ideology. He does that, I back off.

GTL, well…like I said, I haven’t heard the exact exchange and don’t give Rush much attention at all, but I certainly HOPE that he’s been misinterpreted. Because if you’re right, then it is unfortunate.
