I guess I was one of the (obviously) crack-smoking Rush Limbaugh’s “phony Soldiers”; well — TECHNICALLY; a “phony Airman” since I was appalled by the waste of lives and money I personally saw being poured into the meatgrinder called “Iraq”, up close and PERSONAL in my capacity of being one of those “boots on the ground” in support of what was originally supposed to be our enforcement of U.N Resolution 1441; rapidly accomplished within WEEKS, I might add. Apparently, about half the other troops I served in the “sandbox” with were also “phony Soldiers”, too. Thanks for NOTHING, Rush — you hypocritical PIG.
Here’s a wakeup call: half the “boots on the ground” would love nothing more than to be “boots on the grass” — i.e., their own lawns in their own front yards, lying next to their significant others at night. The military, although, generally made up of a conservative thinking majority, is also highly represented by liberal thinkers as well. What Rush Limbaugh is saying is, those 40-plus-or-minus percent of our brave men and women in the military are is “phony Soldiers”. Easy enough for a cigar-chomping DOOMASS to say from behind a microphone, isn’t it?
From Media Matters:
Limbaugh: Service members who support U.S. withdrawal are “phony soldiers”
During the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh called service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers.” He made the comment while discussing with a caller a conversation he had with a previous caller, “Mike from Chicago,” who said he “used to be military,” and “believe[s] that we should pull out of Iraq.” Limbaugh told the second caller, whom he identified as “Mike, this one from Olympia, Washington,” that “[t]here’s a lot” that people who favor U.S. withdrawal “don’t understand” and that when asked why the United States should pull out, their only answer is, ” ‘Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.’ … ‘Save the — keeps the troops safe’ or whatever,” adding, “[I]t’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.” “Mike” from Olympia replied, “No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.” Limbaugh interjected, “The phony soldiers.” The caller, who had earlier said, “I am a serving American military, in the Army,” agreed, replying, “The phony soldiers.” …
The DISGRACEFUL audio clip is HERE, by the way…
“Phony Soldiers”, Mr. Limbaugh? Do you mean those “phony Soldiers” such as Sergeants Mora and Gray? Drill down into those links to learn just what sort of an absolute ASS Rush Limbaugh is for making such a ludicrous and disgusting statement. Sean Hannity is just as bad, by the way…
These people ought to be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of the policies our left-leaning, but ever-so-brave military men and women of honor must adhere to under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (“UCMJ”) when their President is a hard-right conservative. They HAVE no “freedom of speech” to dissent openly and honestly with the policies of their Commander-In-Chief, which BLATANTLY paints this picture around America of the military being populated with mostly far-right NEOCONS. The fact that they parrot their CIC’s words keeps them from getting into trouble. Those far-right, oh-so-famous MilBloggers would be shut down OVERNIGHT if we were to elect some far-left politician to the Oval Office because they’d be in clear opposition to their new CIC — a “no-no” in the military.
Rush Limbaugh is a complete ASS, and he should be held strictly accountable by his major advertisers and listeners for what he did. And to be blunt, what Rush Limbaugh REALLY did was just blast almost half of our brave men and women in uniform who SILENTLY (to the Public) continue to risk their lives in order for this gasseous WINDBAG to openly blast them from behind his mic, in the comfort of his own mansion.
Shame on you, Mr. Limbaugh. You are a DISGRACE to America, Sir.

GTL,
Factual question: But why was the second Mike on the show in the first place? As I understood it, those serving in the military are not allowed to talk to the media without a superior’s position. Is that understanding ot the UCMJ correct? Or are you just not allowed to publicly disagree with policy?

the second Mike was a plant, a shill obviously because the first guy was making a valid point- typical “When Fox Attacks” mentality. They could have at least come up with a name. No validation that this guy was Mil. He could have been Rush’s brother in law for all we know.

Paul, it’s okay if you are anonymous. The first year of this blog was written while I was in the military, which is why I blog as “The GTL” versus my real name – I could have gotten hammered if I blogged under my real name and publicly admitted I was military. I’m in the inactive reserve even now and that even presents a “gray line” I don’t want to tangle with.
About half the military must watch what they say to the media, and must bite their tongues. It has always been that way, regardless of whether the President is Republican or Democrat, the military members of the opposition party must stifle their “free speech” in public.

Hey Folks, Great job doing what so many others in the MSM and bloging have been doing. Try listening to Limbaugh’s comments after where you carefully cut it off and hear how he explains using phony soldiers to report on one individual Jesse??? who was a puppet of the left who had no combat experience, no purple heart, lied about being airborne…lets cut the crap, if you can’t beat the right on the airwaves then that’s just telling you that people can think for themselves and don’t need your “help”

Clarence Thomas book out today…. Who are really racists? Why are so many liberals “open minded” as long as you agree with their minds?

I would like to comment on the editorial which began TECHNICALLY “phony airman”. I am a Desert Storm veteran and was a Staff Sergeant in the USAF. To rebut the comments made by this individual I can see why individuals such as him or her fits into the “phony Soldier” phrase. A soldier, airman, seaman or marine is not to question why or where funds are being distributed or to where him or her is deployed. This indidual, myself and all others who are currently serving and who have served in the past took an oath to defend, to obey all orders of the commander in chief and those appointed over us. We are to follow orders, to fight and sometimes to die. We live under this blanket of freedom from the blood of those who gave the ultimate sacrfice during all of the conflicts which our great nation participated in. This individual knew the risks befor he made the statement “meatgrinder”. No one held a gun to my head when i enlisted and I am confident that no one held a gun to this individuals head when they enlisted. I was aware of the dangers of soldering when i was 5 years old and for this individual to critisize those who are proud to serve and want to serve and to defend is dispicable. This individual is an abomination, a zero to make such statements. AND for your web site to print such filith without giving credit to the brave soldiers is an abomination as well. I am not sure what your outlook on life is liberal or conservative, I just happened across this site and dropped in. If this site is liberal based WAKE UP. Libearl views are always turn the other cheek, let bygones be bygones, if we dont bother them they wont bother us. Look at the justice system and what the liberals have done. The offender has more rights than the victum and there are thousands of liberal groups waiting to defend the offender, why, because it isnt their fault. There was something missing from their childhood that makes them be a criminal. They need help not incarceration. WAKE UP. They made a mistake. Why is it a libearl will take the side of a zero (criminal) with statements such as well they just made a mistake. If they believe in that so much why dont they defend the police officers who are risking their lives? ANSWER Liberals want anarchy plain and simple. Libearls deep deep down are cowards. Every coward I have ever known have made comments like well if I leave them alone they will leave me alone. Look libearls are not strong enough to run a country and keep its sovernty secure and the citizens of the nation safe. Before I leave I want to say GOD BLESS YOU. I am also a christian and very proud of it and i am not afraid of the words Jesus Christ and I will scream them from the tops of mountains. Put prayer back in the schools and eliminate the muselim ( ispelled it that on purpose) believes from our schools. Return this nation to One nation Under God. Not Gods. There is only One God and One savior. Wake Up before it is to late. If this site is not a liberal site please forgive me and if you are I hope that this mesaage gets under your skin, in your head and plants a sead. If you are a liberal please seek help through therapy or medication and please get better. Thank You.

It seems there much of the discourse in the US is which talk show you listen to. The populace is divided and as such cant really achieve anything worthwhile. Its a low level civil war of words that has been going on for a while.

There are soldiers who should not be soldiers, drafted or otherwise, I personally knew some of them in Viet Nam. You know as well as the rest of us that Limbaugh was talking abot a real non-soldier named
Jesse McBeth who only served six weeks in the militay and was never in combat anywhere. So GTL are you a real soldier or just a loud mouth for the left. Limbaugh has more respect for our men and women in uniform than any liberal could ever hope to match. Two of my sons were officers in the Marine corps and one has been to Iraq, My brother was a Marine as were other members of my extended family. You may be ex-military but speaking as a Korean war vet I think you suck. If a Democrat gets in the White House, the military will be in deep crap, and former military personnel who become politicians open themselves up to criticism the same as civilians do. I personally prefer a President without a military background. I am a former Marine and a 71 year old gun toting civilian who is not ashamed to use my REAL name. I don’t know why I wrote to your idiot website, just pissed I guess. Thank God for Rush, Sean, and Glenn.

Larry and Duane-
Although I respect your beliefs, they are quite outdated from the current milieau ( that means environment, I know it’s a French word) . This is the 21st century and a bridge between peoples has been built- it’s called the internet, you’re on it by the way. If you want prayer in school- then there should be Jewish, Muslim, Christian et al. prayer times. The ones that steadfastly cling to the idea that America is a “Christian” nation are missing the point entirely. Founded upon those values, yes, but explicitly delineated in our Constitution that it should remain a separate entity from the body of government-based upon the fact that most kings were following a “mandate from heaven”.
So thanks for serving Duane, and point of fact the military had a Democratic Pres. for 12 years during WW2. 8 years during Clinton.
Limbaugh only has respect as far as his fat tochis can let him glad- hand them with a cigar in his mouth so he can get more sleepovers in the Lincoln bedroom.
