(H/T to Think Progress)
As per custom, Sally Field began her acceptance speech for “Best Drama Actress” at the Emmys by thanking this guy, that guy, this gal, that gal, etc., etc., etc. Then, she appears to lose her composure for a few moments before launching into an anti-war tirade, which Fox abruptly cut the audio and video off of her for a few seconds while she ranted:
“If mothers ruled the world, there would be no…”
The audio and video cuts off before the world can hear the rest of her sentence…
“… “god-damned wars in the first place.”
And the crowd applauds wildly.
Here is the video:
While I share Sally Field’s lack of enthusiasm for our participation in the civil war in Iraq, it is understandable to me why Fox would want to spare children from hearing profanity on national television. Yet, many folks are upset with the fact Ms. Field was cencored for her opinion, as if she would have been cut off had she worded her dissent thusly:
“If mothers ruled the world, there would be no wars in the first place.”
Had Sally Field excercised a dabble of restraint in her choice of language, I serious do doubt her message would have been interrupted by Fox. On the other hand, due to the Press and blog coverage this episode has drawn, her message and words have most certainly been heard — and LOUD AND CLEAR at that…

Thanks as always, to the amazing Jon Swift not only for linking in, but for forcing me to crack a smile as well…

Good! Political statements, from whatever ideology, are out of place in events like the Emmy Awards.
Some day, maybe the Hollywooders will figure that out.

This is a nice theory and all, except for this fox show “family guy”, which also uses the same language, at the same time of night as the sally field bleeping:
Glenn Quagmire [after a bad shot]: GODDAMN IT! COME ON! COME ON! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! COME ON, GLENN! COME ON, GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GODDAMN GAME!
Joe Swanson: Hey, do you think it’s time to talk to Quagmire about his anger issues with this game?
Cleveland Brown: A white man shouldn’t play sports in the first….
So much for that theory…

Fox could do a much better job guarding its own henhouse, as evidenced by the most recent Bill O’Reilly show….

Didn’t see the O’Reilly show, but there’s a big difference in run-of-the-mill TV and an awards show. I don’t condone crude language on stupid TV shows, whether it’s on Fox, NBC/CBS/ABC, or where ever, but an awards show is NOT–repeat NOT–a proper venue for political idiocy, such as what Sally “The Flying Nun” Field spewed.
She and her ilk need to recognize their place in the world, which isn’t a special place, and recognize that hardly anyone gives a damn what she thinks about the Iraq war, or any subject outside her narrow area of expertise, which is acting.

She “won” by swearing otherwise no one would be talking about it. Her speech had thousands of exposures it wouldn’t have otherwise had. Good job Sally women are smarter than men.
