With the exception of that 34% (as of today – source: RealClearPolitics) who approve of President Bush’s job performance, Alan Greenspan has confirmed what the other 66% of us had already figured out a few years ago — we “Surged” into Iraq on behalf of “Big Oil”.
And, let’s back up a minute. Of that 34%, what sub-percentage of those folks are making a living in the “Big Oil” or “Nation Building” industries? Because, they wouldn’t really count toward my point in the first sentence since they are fully aware of the fact that Mr. Greenspan and the rest of us are correct — we DID go into Iraq to take over their oil fields — and most likely, this would be the treason reason President “Surge” W. Bush keeps bullying Iran as well.
From TimesOnline (UK):
Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil
Graham Paterson
AMERICA’s elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil. …”
(Snip!)
“… However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.
Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East. …”
First of all — DUH!
Second — Shouldn’t we be holding this man criminally liable for knowing this fact, and for actively, knowingly, participating in this International crime (he was the freaking FED Chairman, for cryin’ out loud — of COURSE he knew and helped cover it up) against the people of Iraq and his fellow Americans? He gets to sit on a “secret” like this one for years, choosing to blow his whistle at a time of his own good choosing and for monetary gain (his new “tell-all” book comes out tomorrow)? Typical behavior from a greedy, far-right wing capitalist — above the law, covering up criminal activities until a buck can be made, etc., etc., etc.; it all fits here. Where are those conspiracy charges, DEMOCRATS?
To me, such an admission from Mr. Greenspan, given his former position in our “Gub’mint”, is an admission of participating in the crime. I say, don’t even bother with buying this creep’s book — BOOK ALAN GREENSPAN INSTEAD, then go after the head of the snake. Dust off that RICO Act, Dems. That is, unless you’ve accepted that “Big Oil and Nation Buildin Bidness” baton for yourselves…?

I have to agree with you on this one Gunny and somebody should be asking the former Fed Chariman what he knew and when he knew it. I beleive that while in the office he served he was untouchable but he isn’t the Fed Chairman anymore!
Great post my friend!

Greenspan did a great job as the Chairman of the Fed for many years, and for that, the country (and especially democrats like Bill Clinton) should be extremely grateful. He definitely figured out how to use the Fed (money supply and interest rates) to conrol/balance inflation and economic growth. He was as responsible for the boom and growth of the ’80s and ’90s as Bill Gates, or all the little dot-coms that went belly-up when the tech balloon burst.
As for what he knew about Iraq and when he knew it, for all you liberal witch-hunters out there, the answer is Nothing. He knew nothing about Iraq and he knows nothing now. He is speculating, pure and simple. The Fed chairman has no inside track on Washington politics, Greenspan is just giving his personal and un-informed opinion.

actually Greenspan himself clarified on 60 Minutes that his Iraq comment was taken out of context…
but it’s ok, most people probably won’t realize that. liberals gotta capitalize on that, right?
