I know, I know, it’s not “cool” to just keep kicking a man while he’s down, but I just can’t help it when we’re talking about one of the men responsible for helping to create this “Big Brother Police State” we Americans have found ourselves imprisoned in. He’s still avoiding and/or altogether denying the allegations which have led to his pleading “guilty as charged” before the judge as well as stepping down (effective September 30th) from his U.S. Senate seat. Indeed, the actions one would expect from any “innocent” person, right?
From The Politico:
Sex scandal senator resigns
Republican Sen. Larry Craig announced “with sadness and deep regret” he will resign effective Sept. 30 in the wake of a scandal over his pleading guilty to lewd conduct in a Minnesota men’s room.
He called the scandal an “unwanted and unfair distraction from my job and for my Senate colleagues,” adding: “I apologize for what I have caused. I am deeply sorry. I have little control over what people choose to believe.” …
Hmmm… “what people choose to believe”, he says. Okay, I’ll bite: how about choosing to believe what Mr. Craig told the judge? I.E., “GUILTY AS CHARGED”…
The Washington Post says we’re going to be stuck with this guy next:
[Idaho Governor] “… Otter is expected to name Idaho Lt. Gov. Jim Risch to serve the rest of Craig’s term, Republican sources have said. …”
Let the fun and games of the investigative Press and Blogosphere begin…
I wish Mr. Craig nothing but the best of luck as he rides that big ole’ steed off into the sunset rainbow. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with THAT; just something wrong with pretending to be something you’re not for no other reason than to swindle votes in order to get one’s hands on that big ole’ bag of money we call “tax dollars” — OUR tax dollars, folks.
GOOD RIDDANCE, Mr. Craig — my only regret is the fact that we’ve got to put up with your hipocritical butt for four more weeks.

My close friend Megan Donovan of the Cest Moi Political Blog MIGHT be frowning when she reads my headline… ? Go take a look at the opinion of a well-written activist for the level-headed side of the GLBT community if you think this is a “gay” versus “hetero” issue…

The real question in the Craig case is why his fellow Republicans threw him overboard so quickly. (I’m not aware of one elected Republican who came to Craig’s defense.)
There is only one reason. The whiff of homosexuality in the Craig case brought deep-seated Republican homophobia to the surface and the party threw their fello-Senator to the wolves.

Unlike other GOP corruption cases, there was a conviction in this one. There IS a difference; not that I like to apologize for Republicans too often on this forum…
