From The [ahem... oftentimes, accused of being "traitorous"] New York Times:
Concern Over Wider Spying Under New Law
By JAMES RISEN and ERIC LICHTBLAU
WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 — Broad new surveillance powers approved by Congress this month could allow the Bush administration to conduct spy operations that go well beyond wiretapping to include — without court approval — certain types of physical searches of American citizens and the collection of their business records, Democratic Congressional officials and other experts said. …”
Okay… so… why did the “New Democratic Congress” rubber stamp it then? Nice try, BUMS…
Another “snippet”:
“… Administration officials acknowledged that they had heard such concerns from Democrats in Congress recently, and that there was a continuing debate over the meaning of the legislative language. But they said the Democrats were simply raising theoretical questions based on a harsh interpretation of the legislation. …”
Hmm. Isn’t this what these JACKASSES are supposed to be doing BEFORE they vote such crappola into law, versus questioning themselves AFTER THE FACT, as if they weren’t in the room?
This one says it all:
“… The dispute illustrates how lawmakers, in a frenetic, end-of-session scramble, passed legislation they may not have fully understood… “
Remember how this all went down? The Democrats were standing for American freedom and liberty… that is, UNTIL President Bush told them he wasn’t going to let them take their vacation if they didn’t rubber stamp this HORRID legislation into law. Does that jog any memories for you?
“… It also offers a case study in how changing a few words in a complex piece of legislation has the potential to fundamentally alter the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a landmark national security law. Two weeks after the legislation was signed into law, there is still heated debate over how much power Congress gave to the president. …”
EXACTLY. It offers a case study in how the Democrats on Capitol Hill either have a VERY SERIOUS word comprehension problem; have a VERY SERIOUS preference for “fun in the sun” over serving their fellow Americans’ best interests; or, simply are pretending they didn’t know they were granting “Queen Hillary” the right to wiretap, eavesdrop and data-mine her political enemies to her cold heart’s content. Any of the above work well enough for me; individually, any combination, and/or all of the above; you fill in the blanks…
If you’ve not picked up on this from me yet, I’m just not BUYING this one, folks.

In order for them to have not understood the ramifications of their vote they would have to be too damned ignorant to pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.

I’m all for the legislation. Then again, I’m all for same-sex marriage. I can’t wait until Hillary gets in office.
