You know, it just PAINS me to keep on relentlessly slamming on the Democrats these days, but I elected these gutless nitwits to help return this country to a nation of FREEDOM and Civil Liberties; a country where it would once again be possible for ANY able-minded American to attain the American Dream. This just hasn’t happened so far. In fact, the OPPOSITE seems to be occuring these days, and I’m starting to become quite ANNOYED.
60-28 says it all…
Senate Votes To Expand Warrantless Surveillance
White House Applauds; Changes Are TemporaryBy Joby Warrick and Ellen Nakashima
The Senate bowed to White House pressure last night and passed a Republican plan for overhauling the federal government’s terrorist surveillance laws, approving changes that would temporarily give U.S. spy agencies expanded power to eavesdrop on foreign suspects without a court order.
The 60 to 28 vote, which was quickly denounced by civil rights and privacy advocates, came after Democrats in the House failed to win support for more modest changes that would have required closer court supervision of government surveillance. Earlier in the day, President Bush threatened to hold Congress in session into its scheduled summer recess if it failed to approve the changes he wanted. …” – The Washington Post
Threaten to take their vacation away and they sell us down the river. They’re VEHEMENTLY opposed to warrantless wiretapping until President Bush says, “Fine, vote against my unconstitutional, ILLEGAL ‘PROGRAM’, and you can just kiss your vacations goodbye” and they IMMEDIATLY dust off their pens to sign. SIXTEEN Democrats; “liberty lovers” they told us they were; broke down like WIMPS and SIGNED.
Unfortunately, I cannot find a list of the so-called “Democratic” Senators who signed the moment their vacations were threatened, so I’d appreciate any reader and/or commenter who can help me out on this one, just so we can help insure they are DEFEATED in their next election cycle.
Simply ABHORRENT. Shame on these… these… “people“, and may they one day be held accountable for their unconstitutional FELONY…

This is the kind of bill that the “Nanny state’rs” of the LEFT and the “Police state’rs” of the RIGHT tend to compromise on to further the agenda of “big government for all”. I can see you love it too, GTL.

No need to worry. A strong plurality of Democrats believe, if we just hold our breaths for a year and a half, Hillary will save us.

I’m thinkin’ the writing is on the wall. If you value liberty and freedom, if you revere the Constitution and Bill of Rights, it is time to start looking for a new home.
I liked that, “waiting for Hillary to save us.” I ’spect holding our breath for that will turn us into a nation of purple faced smurfs. Anyone but Hillary.

No Republicans voted against the bill. The following Democrats voted for it: Evan Bayh (Indiana); Tom Carper (Delaware); Bob Casey (Pennsylvania); Kent Conrad (North Dakota); Dianne Feinstein (California); Daniel Inouye (Hawai‘i); Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota); Nancy Mary Landrieu (Louisiana); Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas); Claire McCaskill (Missouri); Barbara Mikulski (Maryland); Bill Nelson (Florida); Ben Nelson (Nebraska); Mark Pryor (Arkansas); Ken Salazar (Colorado); Jim Webb (Virginia).
Senators Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd and Barack Obama all opposed the bill, as did 23 other Democrats and Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont. Joe Lieberman voted …well, you know how he voted.
I’m so pissed I can’t even blog about it yet. Must take blood pressure meds.

“You know, it just PAINS me to keep on relentlessly slamming on the Democrats these days,”
Yeah, taking easy shots like that gets boring after a while. No fun using a long range weapon at 2 feet.
“but I elected these gutless nitwits”
Which is why I tend to call them capons.
“to help return this country to a nation of FREEDOM and Civil Liberties”
Lordy! With the though police, language police, gun police, and general “the State knows how to take care of you better than you do” attitude of the Dem capons, why the hell would you expect them to do that? The Dems haven’t been really interested in full civil liberties or civil rights since Humphrey ran way back when.

it’s all political theatre anyway…
dems repubs, they’re all the same.
how and why would take a scholar to figure out i guess.
A country needs to have at least 3 political parties to even approach a democratic state.
either/or is i believe the most basic system of logic one can use.
the powers that be are dividing and conquering us, again, classic well known basic thinking.
consider how close most serious elections are- divided.

And we the American public act surprised….! Both sides of the aisle are puppets for corporate America. What companies run America depends on who is in office. The only salvation for America is lots of good rope and a nearby cherry orchard full of trees……Chad Short Texas

Libby, THANK YOU! My biggest surprise is Jim Webb. I’d been pondering drafting him for the Oval Office for ‘08 until now. I’ve VERY disappointed in him for voting this way :-/
Thanks to all the rest who’ve commented, and thanks again, Libby, for speaking up

You’re Welcome GTL. Webb is also the biggest disappointment to me. I was also considering drafting him but this isn’t the first time he’s voted with the White House on the occupation. Now I’m thinking he’s got to go.

I am missing the point where there is a problem with using electronic surviellence on foreign suspects on foreign land. They aren’t Americans. Why would we need any sort of warrant to start with?

americans never quit?
remember, it is those who fled europe during the nazi uprising that are now considered ’smart’.
regardless if they came here to a great extent.
actually, that strngthens my point- this is a country made up in near entirety of people who ‘quit’ their homelands.
