Whichever one of the above it may turn out to be in the end, I believe they both qualify as criminal offenses (i.e., lying to Congress while under oath, or warrantless wiretapping), so, MY next big question is, when will Alberto Gonzales be hauled off to prison?
We already know he’s guilty of the latter offense, so if he is confirming the existence of another program, that’s two or more counts on his own admission. If he’s guilty of the former, he should be surrounded by the same rumblings Barry Bonds is hearing for his offense of lying before Congress about his steroid usage…

Gonzales Contradicts Prior Statements, Confirms Existence Of Other Spying Programs
In his testimony today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was asked by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) to address inaccuracies in his 2006 testimony in relation to the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. “There has not been any serious disagreement about the program that the president has confirmed,” Gonzales said at the time.
Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) recalled that former Deputy Attorney General James Comey testified to a much different version of events. Comey said he had refused to sign on to an extension of the program “amid concerns about its legality and oversight.”
Today, Gonzales said Comey was referring to “other intelligence activities,” appearing to confirm that the Bush administration is operating more than one warrantless domestic spying program. …”

Also, a “hat-tip” goes to Taylor Marsh for point out this YouTube video of Alberto Gonzales being grilled by Senator Arlen Specter over trying to pressure former Attorney General John Ashcroft to sign off on the illegal warrantless wiretapping “program” (number one?) while he was still under heavy sedation immediately following his surgery:
What a worm, this “Alberto Gonzales” character is; inept, no integrity whatsoever, and delusional as well. Observe how he keeps referring to John Ashcroft as “General Ashcroft”, as if that would be a proper term for a civilian with ZERO military service history. One gets the idea this weasel is just frothing at the mouth to hear Senator Specter address him as “General Gonzales”, but nothing of the sort happens. Instead, Senator Specter seems to emphasize the proper title when he begins one question with “ATTORNEY General Gonzales…”, as if to snap him back into reality…
And, that “reality” is, during AG Gonzales’ brief military service in the United States Air Force, he never came close AT ALL to acheiving the lofty rank of “General”. No, indeed; young Alberto was a low-ranking enlisted man who transferred to the Air Force Academy after just two years of ENLISTED service to become a mere CADET for the remaining two years of his military service obligation.
Pay close heed to the above, because it does underscore the true sickness of the current occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. These people really DO see themselves as honorable military “heros”; as is evidenced in both the above testimony of Alberto and also that fateful day on the aircraft carrier where Alberto’s boss ignorantly declared “Mission Accomplished” while wearing an Air Force uniform.
Has anybody ever seen any other U.S. President wearing a military uniform while serving in the capacity of President? Not I. Has anybody ever heard a civilian Attorney General assign a MILITARY rank to the civil service position? Not I; at least, not until today…
