Due to the fact the “anti Roe V. Wade crowd” likes to label abortion under ANY circumstance, and during ANY term as “murder“, and since the MSM likes to refer to serial killers by their full names including their middle names (not just a middle initial), and since the “Boo-hiss, Roe V. Wade” crowd is likely to hate this guy now; I feel it is only proper to stop referring to Republican Presidential hopeful Fred Thompson as “Fred Thompson”. From now on, it’s “Frederick Dalton Thompson”…
… OR, some might just prefer to refer to the former Senator (R) as “Freddy“…

Fred D. Thompson, who is campaigning for president as an antiabortion Republican, accepted an assignment from a family-planning group to lobby the first Bush White House to ease a controversial abortion restriction, according to a 1991 document and several people familiar with the matter.
A spokesman for the former Tennessee senator denied that Thompson did the lobbying work. But the minutes of a 1991 board meeting of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Assn. say that the group hired Thompson that year.
His task was to urge the administration of President George H. W. Bush to withdraw or relax a rule that barred abortion counseling at clinics that received federal money, according to the records and to people who worked on the matter.
The abortion “gag rule” was then a major political flashpoint. Lobbying against the rule would have placed Thompson at odds with the antiabortion movement that he is now trying to rally behind his expected declaration of a presidential bid. …”

President Reagan wisely said about believng the Russians, “Trust, but verify.”
Before you dig Fred Thompson’s political grave, you should should ask the “family planning” group (an organization full of donors to Sen. Clinton’s campaign, btw) and the LA Times (with its rather spotty record for accuracy) to produce some billing records.
Otherwise, it’s just another drive-by media hit piece done for the Clintons against one of their political opponents. I lived in Arkansas for 20 years, and I’ve seen the results of their handiwork.
Let’s see the billing records.
